How Am I Just Discovering Reformation? 5 Pieces I’m Loving

I know, I know — the brand Reformation is nothing new, Amyyy.

It’s not as though I just discovered the brand, rather I thought Reformation was focused on one sole item entirely: the best, hottest, most chic dresses. The kind of dress that’s a show stopper when worn to a wedding or lavish event.

As someone who’s been a full-time professional wedding photographer for the past decade, I can assure you that Reformation makes the best dresses to wear to a wedding. Without question, any time my second photographer and I would approach a guest at a reception to compliment their outfit, the same response was always echoed:

“Thanks, it’s Reformation!”

It got to the point where we wouldn’t even ask. We’d spot a stunning dress at the wedding, exchange glances, nod and say, “Reformation.” It became an announcement, not a question.

So, fast-forward to late last year, when silly little me saw a beautiful sweater online and muttered, “Wait…Reformation makes more than dresses?”

Turns Out, Reformation Clothing Is More Than Just Pretty Dresses: A Try-On

A little bit of blog research later, and I’ve clearly been sitting under a rock. Kat loves Reformation, and Laura loves Reformation — everyone and their mom adores Reformation, and I immediately felt a little…sheepish.

Vowing to pay better attention, I let myself become fully immersed in everything the brand has to offer. And oh my…it’s so, so good.

Before I go any further, these are the pieces on Reformation’s website that made me swoon that also have been glorious in real life:

TL;DR: Don’t Miss These 5 Reformation Pieces

1. Mason Pants: TTS and shockingly long, these trousers are fantastic for someone around my height (5’9”). While I’ve read a few reviews that say these are even worth hemming, there’s a petite version if that suits you better. You can grab the pants in multiple colors at Nordstrom too.

2. Cynthia High-Rise Straight-Leg (Long) Jeans: I’ve been on a mad hunt for good-quality, full-length jeans, and throughout all of my research I just keep coming back to this pair. If you’re not as tall as me, here’s the regular length and even a proper cropped version.

3. Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater: A sweater that’s not new to TME. Shana, Laura and Linzi all give it their stamp of approval.

4. Fantino Cashmere Collared Cardigan: The first piece of clothing that drew me into the full catalog at Reformation, and it remains to be my most favorite (and a top fave in my entire closet, for that matter).

5. Vintage Oversized Crewneck: Fantastically oversized with a super-soft interior, this sweatshirt is for those who like to drown a little in their clothing (such as moi). I even chose a size down from my normal and wear a size small. If you want something a little less, well, big…try this one.

Spoiler alert: All of these pieces from Reformation work great together in a fun little “mix-and-match capsule wardrobe” sort of way too!

What’s So Good About Reformation Clothing?

Apart from its phenomenal dress selection, you may be wondering why I’m fangirling over Reformation, but honestly, it’s quite simple:

Reformation is putting in the work and making sustainability a priority. Starting out as a vintage-clothing store, the brand has grown, now making its own line utilizing low-impact materials, rescued deadstock fabrics, and repurposed vintage clothing. Reformation is a certified Climate Neutral company and will be Climate Positive by 2025.

The clothing is beautiful, and Reformation balances timeless wardrobe staples with new, trending silhouettes that I feel like other brands have a hard time getting right.

Reformation Try-On: 5 Pieces I’m Loving

Reformation is making high-quality clothing that, in my experience, has been worth the price. And although I’ve owned this clothing for a few months, it’s already made a significant dent in the cost-per-wear factor for my wardrobe (i.e., these babies are on repeat).

1. Mason Pants

The Refomation Mason Pants are long. Gloriously long. As someone who is 5’9”, I think these loose trousers would even work well for those a few inches taller than me, depending on where you like your pants to hit.

There’s no question that the trousers are well made, and immediately you can feel it.

The pants are made from 100% TENCEL Lyocell (which comes from eucalyptus trees) and have an inseam of 32 3/8 inches — although they seem to drape even longer than what you would assume for that inseam.

The pants are flowy and soft yet feel professional enough for the office (thick too!).

While the slim waistband isn’t as perfect as my favorite trousers in terms of comfort, I still find the band comfy enough for a day at work or an evening out on the town. It should be noted that I’m also very straight-framed, so I imagine someone with more of a defined waistline wouldn’t even notice the band.

2. Cynthia High-Rise Straight Long Jeans

I’ve taken it upon myself to find (and test out) all of the full-length jeans I can — preferably non-distressed pairs — and found Reformation’s Cynthia straight-leg jeans early on in my search. I have yet to find another pair I love more (a full blog post of my jeans research is to come).

I have yet to find a pair of denim I love more than Reformation's Cynthia straight-leg jeans.

The long inseam is 33 inches, slightly longer than I need them to be, but, oh, how I love them. The jeans pool around my shoes just the right amount to look cool and slouchy without stepping on them.

Everything from the shape, the wash (I’m wearing Colorado), and the way this denim has relaxed into my body with wear makes these straight-leg jeans a pair I wear on repeat.

Every time I put these jeans on I’m tempted to buy more.

3. Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater

What I Iove most about the Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater is that it’s made from 90% recycled cashmere (10% virgin cashmere). I love that Reformation is working to eliminate virgin cashmere, and it’s an effort I want to continue to support with future purchases.

The sweater is light and thin but in a breezy way that feels intentional.

The light weight actually makes the sweater phenomenally easy to wear in warmer climates like California, which in turn gives this piece longer-lasting power.

As someone who typically prefers oversized tops, I love that the boyfriend cut still feels tailored with its loose shape. The silhouette is a great balance of being drapey without swallowing you.

4. Fantino Cashmere Collared Cardigan

My sweet, sweet Fantino cashmere collared cardigan has become one of my most treasured wardrobe items.

This Reformation collared cashmere cardigan is an investment price, but how unique the sweater is makes it worth its weight in gold to me.

This cashmere cardigan is certainly an investment price, but the sheer fact of how unique the sweater is makes it worth its weight in gold to me. I live for unique clothing that can still feel timeless.

Made with 90% recycled cashmere (10% virgin cashmere), this collared sweater can be worn closed or open — another bonus factor in the case of cost-per-wear.

Even with the relaxed fit, I chose to size up to a large for extra drape, and I’m obsessed with the length it gives me, both in body and arms. Of course, stick with your true size for a look resembling the product shots online!

5. Vintage Oversized Crewneck Sweatshirt

While I’m not entirely sure why or how I knew to size down in the Vintage Oversized Crewneck Sweatshirt, I’m so thankful that I did.

The oversized crew is “engineered for comfort” and hits that mark perfectly. I ended up getting sick right after ordering this back in the fall, and it became the top that I LIVED in.

The sweatshirt is described as a medium-weight, rigid fleece fabric, but don’t let the word “rigid” scare you. This 100% cotton sweatshirt gave me instant “curl up and nap” vibes and has been a comfort grab ever since.

I’ve been having an increasing urge to shop smarter for our planet, and with brands like Reformation, that’s not a hard goal to attain! Thank you, Ref!!
