Ah, the season of the sandal is upon us! Time to shove those winter boots into the closet, spend a little T.L.C on our toenails, and get ready for our feet to see the outside world.
Unless, that is, you decide to rock the fisherman sandal. One of the beauties of this trend is that many (*but not all) hide your toesies! So if flip flops aren’t your friend and you’re ready to do away with the hiking sandal, but you’re still hoping for a semi-practical shoe to rock this summer? These might be everything you need.
On Trend: Cute Fisherman Sandals For Women
Fisherman sandals began showing up again last summer. Dubbed everything from “the new dad shoe trend” to “the ugly shoe trend” and even a cause for the hiking sandal to “move over,” more and more brands began pumping these out for this years’ warm-weather styles. I went on the hunt to see if I could find a variety of pairs other than that classic Dr Martens shoe (oh hey! they’ve updated it). I discovered more than I would have imagined, including a light floral pair from Anthropologie that is really pretty, a fisherman-inspired sandal dressed up with a heel, and Free People even has a version of that classic pair we saw every dad rocking at Disney World® in the ’90s.
What are we waiting for? Let’s get to the goods!
These are youthful but in a good way. The “I do my whole skincare routine every night which is why I glow” sort of way. I love that they come in this fun pop of color that makes them unique from all the rest. If you like the style but want something less neon? They come in honey & black, too!
This is fisherman sandal-inspired…a good shoe to dip your toes in (I crack myself up) if you’re not ready to dive head first into this trend, but like it enough to try something close-ish. There’s also a white color with delicate little blue flowers printed all over, though it’s selling fast! (PS: If you’re into this slight inspired look, here’s another option from Amazon that’s under $30!)
For the person who prefers a heel — this one is so good! I love how this shoe would keep you on trend, but in a classic way all at the same time.
These are, like, really pretty. I’m so drawn into that wispy floral pattern. I love how they have such a feminine vibe, which makes me think these would be really really good with all the flowy summer dresses! If florals aren’t for you, they come in a light sand color that is nice on the eyes, too.
Ah, the good ol’ classic dad shoe look. This is that pair today, if I ever saw it. These are made from real leather, which I imagine would mold to you over time and get super-comfortable. Have a trip planned with the fam to a Disney Park this year? You need these (and a sweatshirt wrapped around your waist).
I am immediately catapulted back to middle school with this pair. I don’t think I ever wore it myself, but I’m certain the Olsen twins did in one of their movies (of which I still own…every. single. movie). If you want added height, this platform will give it to you. Comes in white and black, too.
The dad shoe, but make it fashion. These just seem like a step above with their slight tortoise shell pattern and elevated hardware. I should mention that with the higher price tag comes the quality of being “handmade in a family-run factory in a quaint Spanish town.” WOW. DO I NEED THESE?!
A classic reimagined. Many of you might prefer Dr. Martens to stay in the past — but like, c’mon. You’ve got to give it up to a brand that can come back generations later as the “it” thing once again. I have a younger cousin who I love looking to for the latest trends (and who isn’t hardened yet by “wearing it the first time”), and I won’t be surprised if these are on her feet this summer. I just glanced at her Instagram and it appears that her college girlfriends were already rocking versions last summer, I’m so behind.
So expensive, but I want it. These are described as an “outdoorsy city walker” shoe, so they must be comfy. They look clunky but the description also mentions they are surprisingly lightweight. Comes in a pretty tan color, as well.
It’s the slanted square toe for me. They come in both black and sand, and both would be so perfect with every summer outfit. Can’t go wrong with a Jeffrey Campbell. They’re also in stock at Nordstrom in the color black!

As trend-driven as I tend to be, I’m not always one to jump onto different shoe trends; I usually stay classic with sneakers and practical boots. I was on the fence about fisherman sandals, but I slowly started winning myself over as I researched for this post…I think I’m obsessed and now need to try a pair for myself. But the question is, WHICH ONE?!
