Effortlessly Cool: 5 Easy Summer Outfits

I’ll be the first to admit that summer styles aren’t typically my favorite, but over the years I’ve found some combos that reflect more of my sporty, sorta-edgy style.

Mostly, if I’m wearing something super-summery or feminine, I like to pop on something else to balance that out — whether it’s a bit of something menswear-inspired like a cool vest or something sporty like a pair of high-top sneakers.

In cooler months, my go-tos are black leather, badass boots, blazers, coats that seem like they came from the men’s section, etc. But when it’s hot out, I have to get a little creative in different ways.

Breezy Summer Outfits That Are Actually My Vibe: 5 Sporty-Chic Looks

I’ve always loved eclectic mixes of genres when it comes to both home decor and getting dressed.

So, in dressing for summer, I keep this in mind. Fall and winter and even spring allow for easier layering to create interesting looks, but with a few key accessories and combos, I can make breezy summer outfits feel more my vibe too! Here’s how…

Summer Outfit 1: A Lightweight Dress + High-Top Sneakers

This shirtdress from Amazon has pockets, is oversized, is cool for warm days but looks put-together, & can easily double as the best cover-up.

This great $30 maxi shirtdress I got on Amazon last summer has become a true favorite. It has pockets, is beautifully oversized, is cool for warm days but looks put-together, and can easily double as the best swimsuit cover-up. I probably didn’t need to go up to a medium here, but it’s loose and comfy. It also comes in a great colors!

I wear this with sandals too, but I feel like myself the most when I have these summery dresses (the colorful dress below is another fave of mine!) paired with sneakers.

Summer Outfit 2: A Matching Set + Chunky Pillow Slides

This 2-piece set from Amazon is just cropped enough, & the elastic pants can be pulled up or down, depending on how much skin you want to show.

OK, new favorite outfit. I found this two-piece set from Amazon through a Nashville foodie I love on Instagram, @cheesegal, and she’s right. It’s fab!

I adore a matching set, but most don’t work on my shorter torso. This one is just cropped enough, and the elastic pants can be pulled up or down, depending on how much skin you want to show. The pants have pockets too! Reminder I’m 5’4″ and a size 6/8. It comes in some great colors! I want another and am leaning toward the Light Brown or Rust. True to size.

Looking for a knit set? I LOVE the Dressed in Lala oversized set from Nordstrom.

Summer Outfit 3: Linen Pants, A Tank Top + A Fun Bag

These Caslon linen pants are so easy. The jogger/tulip-hem cut is more my sporty style.

If you’ve been around the blog for the past couple of years, you know how much I love this outfit. I covered it last summer, and it’s still a favorite combo. These Caslon linen pants are just so easy, but the jogger + tulip-hem cut is more my sporty style than a flowy wide-leg style would be. Don’t skip these comfy Everlane sandals, either. For flat sandals, they’re SO comfy!

The all-black base outfit is made more fun with a colorful crossbody. My Clare V. purse is long sold out, but they have some great woven options in the Midi Sac size this year! Have fun with it by adding a playful strap from Clare V.’s giant selection or picking one up from Social Threads’ cute collection!

Summer Outfit 4: A Menswear-Inspired Vest, A Tank Dress + White Sneakers

This combo became a favorite of mine last summer. The super-soft but holds-you-in Beyond Yoga tank dress is seriously good on its own, but when I popped my white vest from Alex Mill on top, it became even more my vibe. Finish off the look with white sneakers (everyone needs a pair of Golden Goose sneaks) to repeat the white pop and voila.

Actually — finish off the whole look with a great chunky chain necklace! That’s my trick for upping the look of most of these outfits.

I’ve also worn a button-up over this same dress, and it can have a similar vibe, if you need a more covered option or one for the cold AC.

I've also worn a button-up shirt over this Beyond Yoga tank dress — love it as a more covered option.

Summer Outfit 5: A Cropped (Or Knotted) Graphic Tee + A Black Knit Skirt

Lastly, a graphic tee & knit skirt have been a real easy go-to outfit for many summers now.

Lastly, a graphic tee and a knit skirt have been a real easy go-to outfit for many summers now. Before there were many cropped (but not too cropped) tees available, I used to knot my tees (example below), but now I’m able to find a few I like in the perfect length.

If you can't find a cropped graphic tee that has a length you're comfortable w/, try knotting it for a similar effect.

Knotted still works great here for any regular tee you have, though. I’ve been asked to find graphic tees lately, so I rounded up a few I like.

If getting dressed for summer days is tricky for you too, I hope this helped provide some inspo! Stay cool! (all you cats and kittens — what a journey that show was for all of us, eh?)

Until next time…
