It’s about that time of year for me: the seasonal overhaul of my closet. The one where I transition from my thick winter sweaters and pull the spring staples front and center.
High on the list of my spring essentials? A go-to striped tee. Stripes add just the right amount of subtle, graphic interest to an outfit, and the versatility makes this piece a serious player in the wardrobe.
The Classic Striped Tee: A Must-Have Spring-Summer Wardrobe Staple
While browsing the latest spring arrivals at Kohl’s, I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across this striped tee and learn it’s part of an exclusive capsule collection from Reese Witherspoon! The entire line is worth a peek, think: classic and a bit preppy, with feminine details. The rolled and buttoned sleeve cuffs on the tee are a nice touch, and the navy/white tones of the striping are iconic for springtime (also comes in a cool navy/red stripe, or a light blue/white).
Spring Capsule Wardrobe: 1 Classic Striped Shirt, 4 Outfit Ideas
When it comes to rocking this piece all season long, the possibilities are endless (and maybe even a bit daunting). Part of what makes a striped tee such a wearable piece is that it layers so easily. Whether it’s just peeking out from under a half-zip, or under a bright pop of color, striped tees feature the right amount of graphic snap to work hand-in-hand with layers during early spring. Below, I’ve rounded together some cute, daily spring outfits that pull in a striped tee.

Kohl’s has a great selection of spring styles for all occasions, plus hidden gems to scoop up at affordable prices! While putting together a little spring capsule around this striped tee, I even realized there are a few spring essentials to #addtocart myself. Namely, these platform Converse (I’m seeing them everywhere), a water-resistant trench coat (under $100!), and a sling backpack (RFID blocking, plus a secure pocket on the back!) to keep hands-free when I’m out and about.
Now, let’s get into a few reliable formulas to wear this spring essential on the daily…
Outfit Idea 1: Add A Pop Of Color
This is a go-to when I simply just do not know what to wear: tee + go-to jeans. Just layer an oversized shacket over top during brisk temps. And to bring in a little spring energy? A fun pop of bold color! Bright colors are on trend for this spring (a nod to seratonin dressing, if you will), and this coral is a fun shade to pair with graphic stripes. Oh, and these Levi’s 724 jeans are one of Shana’s most-worn, high-rise, not-quite-skinny jeans (she’s loved them in summers passed). Summer is admittedly a Hard Time for high-rise, but this pair is the golden ticket… just high enough to elongate those legs.
Outfit Idea 2: With Retro Sneaks + A Light Spring Layer
When it comes to daytime outings (museum visits, grabbing a bite on the river front, picnicking in the park), my trick to keeping it chic and cool is with some casual pattern-play. Plaid over stripes can be tricky, but I think this particular half-zip works because it’s a buffalo plaid, and the scale of the check pattern is large. Layered over the thinner stripes of the tee, the two graphic pieces aren’t competing and actually feels put-together. I’d opt for some retro sneaks (currently obsessed with these platform-style Converse in pastel), and if the temps haven’t warmed up enough, just swap the Levi’s 501 shorts (a team fav) with these straight-leg jeans.
Outfit Idea 3: Layer A Classic Trench
We’re taking those always-on-the-go days, and adding a hint of sophistication with a classic trench coat. These coats are simply timeless, but also great transitioning pieces for colder seasons. Plus, a trench coat is an easy way to slightly elevate an everyday outfit — kind of like a little polish when I’m rushing out the door. Of course, we’re not so precious…pull out the fun spring sneaks! I love the retro high-tops in pastel but I’m also eyeing up these classic Nikes in Desert Sand (a subtle animal print) or in White Pink Rose, to keep the look fresh and casual.
Outfit Idea #4: With Denim On Denim
I personally love a denim moment, especially for spring. It can be tricky to pull off, but using a graphic striped tee to break up the outfit is an easy solution. I love the pretty details on the cuffs and collar of this denim jacket, and it’s also part of the same line as the striped tee! To make this pairing “brunch-worthy”, I like to pull in some warmer accessories. This cute crossbody bag (with all the pockets to organize cards + essentials), plus a pair of walkable mules is an easy way to bring in some brown with the blue–one of my favorite color pairings.
Well, happy start of spring, friends! Cheers to the warmer season upcoming, and finding ways to add some excitement and pep into daily dressing. That’s all for now, folks!

Jeni
