Whenever someone asks me about my favorite seasons as someone who grew up in a country without dramatic season changes, I say Spring and early Fall. It’s the closest I get to the Andes in Colombia, giving me a greater sense of home. But let me tell you that warmer days, or at least late Spring and Summer, have become a favorite, and I love dressing for its beautiful weather.

5 Seriously Good Spring Outfit Staples You Can Wear Into Summer

In the past few years, as I’ve learned the best colors for my complexion, I’ve fine-tuned my spring and summer style and can see a pattern of things I can’t live without. All these are perfect to wear during this transitional period and well into summer — because warmer days are just around the corner!

  1. Printed Button-upFarm Rio makes some of my all-time favorites.
  2. Flared Jeans – Always flattering. Levi’s Ribcage or MOTHER Super Cruisers are my go-to.
  3. Breezy Black Maxi Dress – Something that makes you feel like a million bucks. Like this.
  4. Cargo Pants – For the times when jeans don’t cut it. These Cinq a Sept cargos are my favorite.
  5. Soft, Breathable Jeans Summer jeans do exist. Just check the fabric composition.

1. A Playful Printed Button-Up

Farm Rio makes some of my all-time favorite printed button ups.

Shirt

Yeah, I know the linen, cotton button-downs are classics. But in my closet, they don’t get as much wear as a fun, colorful one. It’s incredible how much you can boost your happy hormones with one colorful shirt. I wear them with jeans, skirts, shorts, swimsuits, and more.

Remember to get a print complimenting your complexion; you will never get enough of it. I’m sure if I had gotten another pattern in colors that didn’t suit me, it would hang in the back of my closet.

Whether it is my trusty Ribcage flare/bootcut or my always-flattering Mother Super Cruisers, I love flared jeans with printed button-ups.

I’m dying to try the newer 70s High Flare Levi’s — they look so good AND you can choose your length. Me and my petite frame are sold.

3. A Black Maxi Dress That Makes You Feel Like a Million Bucks

Left (only in white) l Right

As you may or may not know, black is not the default color in my closet, so whenever I decide to wear something black, it is because it’s an exceptional piece. I got this Cinq a Sept stunner 1.5 years ago, and every time I wear it, I feel like a million bucks.

I love wearing it with boots and a jacket in transitional weather, but I quickly switch to sandals and a straw or small leather bag when it’s hot.

4. Silky Cargo Pants

Pants (S)

When shorts and jeans don’t cut it, I like a pair of dressier pants, but I haven’t found any linen pants I like yet. That’s where the gorgeous cargo joggers come in.

Yes, I’ve sung praises about these silky cargo pants since last year. I love how they spice up my WAHM wardrobe and easily dress up for date night.

It’s a good thing Y2K is in, so we can have even more cargo pant options.

5. The Right Lightweight Jeans

Summer jeans do exist! My favorite spring and summer jeans are the Levi's Ribcage Straight Leg -- but ONLY in the washes with Lyocell.

Jeans

Summer jeans do exist! You only need to check the fabric composition. Denim with Tencel, Lyocell, modal, and even linen will give you the best jeans for the warmer seasons, whereas denim made with polyester will be lightweight but not as breathable. My favorite spring and summer jeans are the Levi’s Ribcage Straight Leg — but ONLY in the washes with Lyocell. I own these jeans in at least four washes. I wear the ones with more cotton in the winter and those with Lyocell in the warmer months.

Sizing tip: If you’re used to sizing up in Levi’s, stay with your true size here as these jeans tend to give in quickly, unlike rigid 100% cotton ones.
