Although I’m not ever a minimalist when it comes to packing, it is my goal is to have effortless, fail-proof pieces that I can grab easily when heading out for a quick weekend trip.

I recently found a pretty teal jacket and a rad technical tank from Athleta. Along with some incredibly easy pants from Gap (which I now possess in two different colors) plus a few of my favorite shoes (adidas, Birks + Tevas), these finds have really taken the thinking out of packing.

I popped into Athleta last week and tried this Westerly jacket on with the GAP pants. Et voila. An outdoor outfit combo made in heaven.

We just spent a few days up in Washington State, right on the oyster-laden beach of the Hood Canal. It’s a really beautiful area where the PNW forest meets the beautiful inlets from Puget Sound.

Lately, as it feels like I have a limited number of brain cells left for activities such as last-minute packing for myself, this newly-discovered versatile outfit has been extremely helpful.

Packing For A Spring Weekend Getaway Just Got Easier

Most of our trips these days are weekends spent exploring the gorgeous Pacific Northwest where we live. Having a go-to outfit where I can just swap out the shoes for different activities has been a godsend.

The Birkenstock Arizona EVA's are great for post-hiking + slip-on-and-go shoes. They're good for wading on the water's edge, too!

When I am looking for a do-it-all kind of outfit, I need comfort, versatility, breathability, and uh…stain-resistant? If I’m gonna sport something for multiple occasions these details are clutch.

We lucked out with a few beautiful non-rainy days on this trip (ok 1.5 days) and I got to relax with just a wind-resistant jacket instead of a raincoat. Yeah, it was lovely.

As far as the shoes, I brought the adidas Superstars that go with everything.

Also, oysters were literally just lying around at the water’s edge. We indulged a lot! Btw, we discovered that my fave Portland hot sauce, Marshall’s Haute Sauce Bird’s Eye Basil is phenomenal on grilled oysters!

A Quick-Drying (But Still Cute) Adventure Outfit

This versatile outfit started with these fabulously light and comfy Runaround Pants from Gap…then I popped into Athleta last week and tried this Westerly jacket on with the pants. Et voilà! An outdoor outfit combo made in heaven. (Oh and this cool tank, too! A detail pic below!)

Not only are all three of these clothing pieces out of technical, quick-drying, lightweight fabrics, but uh, they also still look cute, which we know is my main objective.

Love you PNW but I need a little break from all the SUPER techy gear here that isn’t quite as fashionable. These two pieces are very me, very outdoor friendly but also have some cuts and details that make them super cute to wear!

My Cotopaxi Del Dia daypack is really lightweight & easy to bring rolled up...then great to pull out for short hikes or site-seeing.

And for a few of the details here…I love adding in a fun patterned bag like my Vans checkered belt bag (below) for a pop of pattern to any of my solid-color outfits. You can see a close-up of the cool tank elements below, too! TTS but size up if between. Wearing a S.

ADVENTURE SHOES

As far as the shoes, I brought the adidas Superstars that go with everything, my favorite lightweight hiking sneakers from Teva for exploring, and the easy Birkenstock Arizona EVA’s for post-hiking and slip-on-and-go shoes. They’re good for wading on the water’s edge, too!

I honestly can’t get enough of these little PNW jaunts, especially this time of year to keep us out of the gray spring gloom. At first, I was sad I didn’t book a tropical vacay for our Spring Break this year, but when we got to this gorgeous location, my soul was fulfilled (and we didn’t get stuck in an airport anywhere, so: bonus!)

Here’s to fun time outdoors, weekend road trips and taking some time to take in the view. Until next time, friends…

I tried on this pretty windbreaker from Athleta with my fave Gap travel pants -- et voilà! Packing for a spring weekend getaway in the PNW just got easier.

  1. I appreciate your opinion on technical-ish clothing, being part of an outdoorsy family. Due to lifestyle choice, I get much more use out of this type of stuff then items worn strictly for fashion. Always happy to see someone bridging the gap as much as possible!
