MOTHER vs. Veronica Beard: Which Stretchy Straight-Leg Jean Wins?

This post is sponsored by Saks Fifth Avenue.

It’s no secret around here that jeans and I are having a time lately. I don’t know if my body got too used to sweatpants or if it’s just normal mid-40s stuff, but whew.

It’s been tough as a true jeans-lover.

BUT…I have good news, friends. I found two great options at Saks recently — in my favorite straight-leg cuts — that are actually comfy. I wanted to compare the two pairs here (Mother + Veronica Beard) and talk about some of the details, for those of you that may also be struggling with jeans right now.

Straight-Leg Jeans Comparison: Veronica Beard vs. MOTHER Denim

LEFT: Veronica Beard Joey (29) | RIGHT: MOTHER The Rambler (29)

I honestly keep waffling about which pair of these stretchy jeans are my favorite, the MOTHER or the Veronica Beard. Both are so soft and comfy and have amazing details. So here they are, side-by-side, so you can see the differences visually first and then I’ll break down a little more about each below. You’ll see in the details below that the rise and make-up of both jeans are also super similar, making them a nice comparison.

For an easy first glance, here’s a quick summary of what I love about each:

Veronica Beard Joey Straight Leg Jeans: amazing fit, perfect length, soft but still structured look, great stretch, slimmer leg

MOTHER The Rambler Straight Leg Jeans: Super soft, wider leg, LOVE the wash, run a little big, super-stretchy, wider leg

Veronica Beard Joey Straight-Leg Jeans: The Details

Five-pocket style. Zip fly with button closure. FABRIC: 98% cotton/2% elastane. Made in the USA. Rise, about 11.75″ Inseam, about 27″

A Veronica Beard jeans review for all the fans of straight leg denim out there.

Style: The Veronica Beard Joey jeans are a really lovely straight-leg cut. They’ve got a bit of a slightly trendy acid wash but not overly done and still super wearable (without feeling like you’re on MTV in the 80’s LOL.) Leave it to a brand like Veronica Beard to get all of these details just right. If you like a slimmer straight leg (that still fits over boots btw!) these are for you.

Size: TTS for Veronica Beard, but size up if between sizes. These have stretch but are still a bit thicker denim than the really stretchy-soft MOTHER jeans.

This straight leg jeans comparison includes a Veronica Beard sizing review.

Jacket (s) | Sweatshirt (s) | Jeans (29) | Boots | Bag

The Outfit: Honestly. I am digging how this whole look came together. I love my Anine Bing jacket so much (I’ve talked about this piece for years now) and I love that both the jacket AND these jeans are nice and stretchy…a sweet upgrade from sweatpants but without the digging waist! We’ve got a great graphic sweatshirt with a positive message, amazing jeans that also fit my bod well AND fabulous French-designed boots. I’m very much in my element here with this combo.

MOTHER The Rambler Straight-Leg Jeans: The Details

Five-pocket style, zip fly, button closure. FABRIC: 95% cotton/3% polyester/2% polyurethane. Machine wash. Made in the USA. Rise, about 11.25″ Inseam, about 27.5″

This pair of Mother Rambler are becoming my new favorite petite straight leg jeans.

Style: GAH the wash on these jeans! MOTHER makes THE best washes, hands down. I love this faded true blue that doesn’t have too much whiskering, but just enough to make them look worn-in, like your favorite pair of denim (that they are guaranteed to become.) The MOTHER Rambler still has the same great stitching on the pockets that we adore from MOTHER denim.

Sizing: I’m smack dab between sizes right now and I typically need to size up in MOTHER jeans with less stretchy softness, but these run true to size. Wearing a 29 here but will grab a 28 (and Saks has easy an ordering process/returns!) And at 5’4″ I really appreciate these ankle-length options that read more full-length on peeps like myself.

The MOTHER Rambler ankle jeans are perfect for my petite shape + so comfy!

Sweater (s) | Jeans (29) | Boots

The Outfit: I mean, this sweater. Right? MOTHER seriously has some cute top options right now in addition to all the jeans we love. This flame babe is the perfect transitional sweater from now until spring. It’s cotton but still a thicker warm weight with a bit of boucle yarn on the edgings. The construction is beautiful and of course, the design is stunning!

This flame knit sweater is FIRE. Get it?

So there we have it friends. I hope this helps you choose … but I certainly haven’t made the decision any easier for myself. I know we all love a clear winner, but — honestly — after writing this, I am now more confused as to if I actually have one haha. All I have to say is thank god for soft stretchy jeans! Until next time…

Can I get a straight-leg jean with a little stretch? Turns out, yes! I reviewed similar pairs from Veronica Beard & MOTHER Denim + a sizing comparison.

  1. super cute! hope it’s ok if I throw in my 2 favorites as contenders for a jeans reuniting that might feel so good….The Frame Le Garcon (both the blue and grey are fantastic) and The Rag and Bone Dre, both of which which are always always always in my Paris carry-on…

  2. Off the topic but I recently got a short shaggy haircut and would love to know what if any hair products you use. My hair is a bit wavy and I have lots of it. Love your hair so much! Love the outfit too!
