I’ve now lived in Portland, Oregon, going on 12 years…and let me tell you. There are a lot of sad raincoats out there, haha.
But with the help of my fellow boring-raincoat-hater/fearless leader, Shana, we were able to round up 12 chic, fun raincoats that AREN’T sad! Like this bright & happy yellow raincoat. (Also, 12 rain jackets for 12 years living in Portland? Sounds good to me!)
Tired Of Boring Raincoats? Try These (Free People, adidas, Athleta, Boden & More)
I’ve long appreciated those Shirley Manson lyrics, and there are times in the year when I am only happy when it rains…but it turns out spring is not one of those times.
Raincoats are such a staple here in the Pacific Northwest that I really need something that works, obviously, but that also has some flare, some color, something that makes my designer heart sing. Happy raincoat, happy life? Isn’t that the saying?
It should be here on the Upper Left Coast!
This Boden raincoat is just something different but cute and classically British. (Always a win!) Waterproof and in sizes 2 to 20/22. Go, Boden!
This Lole rain jacket is my favorite of the roundup, for sure. I can’t decide whether to try the blue or green, though! Also waterproof and sizing is XXS to XXL.
This hooded raincoat from Rains is chic and fun and fresh at the same time. The longer length is ideal and, of course, the sky blue. XS to XL.
Fun, sporty and bright…this Free People rain jacket is far from sad. Wind- and water-resistant, oversized fit, and it packs into itself! Comes in some other fun shades (check out that blue) and in sizes XS to XL.
OK, so, technically this is a wind- and snag-resistant jacket, but all of Athleta stuff works in light rain too. Love the trench-coat vibes but in a sporty option. Comes in black as well. Sizing is XS to XL. The back is the gorgeousness here!
You must click through to see how cool this Barbour rain jacket is all snapped up too. Barbour makes amazing jackets and coats. This comes in indigo as well, in sizes 4 to 14.
This plus-size trench coat from adidas is by far the coolest option here. It’s a loose, lightweight trench coat that can transform into a long vest or crop jacket too! I know. Sizes are 1x to 4x. ADORE this!
Shana has and loves this Oof overcoat, and Linzi keeps wanting to steal it, she said. That’s good enough for me! So cute and even cuter on/in person, according to S. Pretty low in stock, but a few sizes in black, lilac and peach.
The details — breathable, water-resistant and packable — and fit of this rain jacket from Vuori make it the perfect jacket for everyday adventures. It comes in this pretty color they call Suede as well as black. Sizes XS to XL. Made from recycled materials.
This adidas raincoat is just really cool in its details and styling. Click through for the mustard color (this green is awesome but sold out). Waterproof and has a belt for a unique fitted look. I love that it looks both technical and super-stylish, and it would keep you nice and dry without being boring.
Not only is this classic adidas jacket fully waterproof, but it’s also made with 100% recycled materials AND has a roll-away hood. I could always reach for a great black jacket like this with a touch of sporty details every day. It would also be easy to travel with. It’s available in plus sizes at Amazon.
This waterproof jacket is classic but with really lovely details: a washed-looking fabric, slant pockets, plaid lining, and the quality we know and love from Barbour.
I hope this helps if you too struggle with finding actually fun raincoats to lift your spirits this time of year! And as always, if you have a fave I missed, let me know in the comments!
