While summer clothes aren’t my absolute favorite (give me all the fall jackets, boots + jeans, y’all) I’ve found some real go-to clothing pieces and combos over the years that I do get excited about.
One of those items is a great black tank dress.
This dress from ZSupply is not only super-soft and easy to style, but you can wear a regular bra with it AND it’s got that great slit detail making it a little extra special.
Dressy & Casual: How I’m Styling My Black Midi Tank Dress For Summer
I found this black ZSupply dress last year when I did a little tank dress try-on. It was that slit detail that set it apart from the rest for me. Not only is it a little sexy and makes this midi-length more flattering on my shorter frame (show some skin, baby) but it also makes it easier to walk in. Important (haha.)

I love styling this dress up a bunch of different ways, but these outfit ideas below are probably two of my favorite looks (save for popping a knotted tee on top, which I think is SO cute!) Let’s get into these two wearable options, one dressy and one casual, for warmer months!
My Go-To Black Midi Tank Dress, Dressed Up
While this dress is incredibly soft and lightweight, popping a blazer on top not only warms it up but could take this dress to the office easily. It’s probably a little too unstructured to wear to work without a jacket on top, but with one…totes.
And you best believe I’ll be wearing this combo if we have a fun date night planned. I’d also wear this look to an art opening, conference or other summer event where I know I’ll want a jacket option (think: blasting AC.)

A linen blend ivory or white blazer is one of my favorite summer pieces that really sharpens up any tank dress or simple tank top, too. It’s a fresh look and has that menswear-inspired vibe I love. This Free People blazer is super-soft, a little oversized and perfect for summer (wearing a S.) If you’re looking for one that’s a bit more structured, this one from Loft looks good.
As for shoes, I’ve had trouble finding very many good red sandals this summer (mine are older Naturalizer) so I’ve done a little roundup below of a few good pairs. I adore a little pop of color in a look like this.

My Go-To Black Midi Tank Dress, Dressed Down
You may recognize this look from my latest post that’s essentially an ode to checkered Vans. I call this look Coach Laura Goes To The Beach. Hahaha.
Idk. I’m in LOVE with my green Clare V Ciao hat, friends, and if it means I am giving off some coach vibes, so be it. It’s here to stay all summer. I do love the sportiness the hat adds to a dress look, and I love the pop of green.

It’s hard to see the details of my denim shirt here, but it’s Levi’s ultimate western shirt and is perfection as a topper you can easily wear tied at the waist when it’s hot or as a swim cover-up.
It’s cotton and has all the beautiful classic details. Wearing a S.
