Living in Marquette, Michigan, I do almost all of my shopping online. There’s a whole lot of trial and error involved and a lot of trips to the UPS store. There are almost always (multiple) boxes in at least one of the rooms of the house (or the hallway, or right next to the front door), so when I get the chance to try things on in person, I jump on it.
More recently, I was in Chicago and stopped into Nordstrom (of course) to try things on in person and ended up finding an outfit I LOVE: white flares that fit like a glove and the softest (cropped) denim jacket that’s perfect for late spring and summer (if that one is sold out, the super-cute PAIGE Pacey or the Mavi Jeans Sienna is sure to do the trick).
White Flare Jeans + A Cropped Denim Jacket = Summer Outfit Perfection
I find white jeans really hard. I’ve tried on many, many pairs over the years, but there’s always something I don’t like about them. But these Marine Layer flare jeans? Perfection.

Flare and bootcut jeans have always been my favorite because they’re leg-lengthening and help accentuate curves. And the fit of these flare jeans is so, so good — usually I have a hard time with my lower belly in white jeans, but these just kind of suck everything in and give a really nice shape to curves. The patch-pocket detail doesn’t add any bulk and helps camouflage any lumps and bumps.

Although jeans usually tend to be slightly big in the waist if they fit my booty, these Marine Layer jeans fit everywhere without gapping in the waist! The rise is 13 inches in front and 15 1/2 inches in the back, making them perfect to pair with all of the shorter crop tops and shirts that are everywhere right now (without showing any skin). I love the front pockets and the elongating seams down the front of the legs.

They’re listed as white, but they’re definitely not a bright, stark white. I’d describe them more as a light beige or eggshell color, which makes them more versatile in my mind. I’ll definitely be able to wear them past Labor Day (gasp!) and well into the fall. 😉

Also, if you’re unfamiliar with Marine Layer, it’s a great brand to support. Dedicated to building a responsible and sustainable business, Marine Layer uses materials made from recycled, responsibly sourced or renewable inputs whenever possible, are a Certified B Corporation, and have its own tee-recycling program. (And the fabrics are really soft!)
Not Your Typical Cropped Jean Jacket (But Just As Versatile)

And speaking of soft…this Splendid jacket, you guys. The second I felt it, I had to have it. I should’ve known it was made from 100% Lyocell, my absolute favorite fabric. The softness is next level, and the drape is on-point. If the Splendid jacket is sold out, the super-cute PAIGE Pacey or the wallet-friendly Mavi Jeans Sienna is sure to do the trick).

It’s lighter and softer than your typical jean jacket, but it’s just as versatile as one. I love that I can wear it open or closed, and it looks good either way. (And how cute is this cami from Free People?? I love the stud detail and adjustable straps — it also comes in black, but I love the cream with the white flares.)

And finally…these shoes! I’ve been going on about how much I love the original Dolce Vita braided sandals since finding them last year, so when I saw they now come in a platform version, I bought two colors immediately (the black and the cork). They are super-comfortable, go with everything, and I love the extra bit of height they give me — oh, and they’re on sale for under $100 right now! LOVE.
XOXO,
Scotti
