My Vans Classic Slip-on sneakers are some of my most-worn summer shoes. When I want to add a little pop of pattern to my solid color closet pieces, add a little cool edge to my dresses or just throw on an easy comfy shoe…Vans are IT for me.
The thing I love most about my slip-on Vans besides the comfort factor? The checkered pattern that adds that little bit of interest to my outfits.
How I Wear Vans Classic Slip-Ons In Summer
Vans are also one of the few sneakers I can honestly say I can wear with just about any of my wardrobe pieces — full-length jeans, cropped jeans, wide-leg pants, shorts, dresses.
My Classic Vans make picking a shoe for all of these clothing pieces just so easy.
Fit Notes: I find these sneakers to fit true to size. Some suggest going down a 1/2 size but that was too small IMO. I stuck with my regular shoe size and they’ve been great. Perhaps if you’re smack between sizes, size down.
1. Vans Checkerboard Slip-Ons With Dresses
You know you’ve found a magical sneaker when it goes well with dresses, IMO. Some could argue most sneakers go with casual dresses easily, but I’m pretty picky about the combo myself. I tend to wear a lot of solids, but as a graphic designer I love adding in a pop of a graphic element.
Checkered Vans just add that little bit of interest that I want in my outfits in such an easy way, especially when it comes to dresses.
I love the sportiness a sneaker like this adds to a dress. I typically like my dresses to feel casual and sporty (I don’t lean very glam or dressy too often) and these shoes balance out the femininity of dresses for me in the perfect way.

2 | Vans Classic Slip-Ons With Jeans Or Pants
Sneakers + jeans is not a stretch, I realize that. These little shoes work beautifully with all the styles of jeans and pants I’ve tried with them — straight-leg jeans, cropped jeans, full-length jeans, wide leg pants, leggings.

This makes Vans so convenient for grabbing to pop out of the house when you don’t want to think too much, for travel when you want to bring a minimal number of shoes, and for those quick changes after a workout when you don’t want to worry about lugging a second pair with you. I’ve worn my slip-on Vans in all of these scenarios.

3 | Vans Checkerboard Slip-Ons With Shorts
The real test for a versatile shoe in my book is when it works with shorts. Having slightly short legs I find it really tricky to find flat shoes that look great with shorts, but Vans are one of my go-tos (even though somehow I only have these 2 pics!)
Slip-on Vans are flat and walkable without looking dowdy, and they have just enough weight to them visually that they are flattering with my leg shape. I love them.
