Every now and then I become entirely consumed with an outfit idea or an individual style of clothing. I will spend hours filling my internet search history with the number of ways I could style it, dreaming up fabulous places I would wear it, and trying to hunt out the right option for my own personal wardrobe.

My latest obsession? The perfect blue sweater for summer.

Playing It Cool: 9 Summer Sweaters in Gorgeous Shades of Blue

Blue evokes the serene feeling summer brings — whether from your travels along the sea, lounging around a pool, or even looking up at a fluffy cloud-filled sky on an August afternoon, it’s both a revitalizing and relaxing color all in one. Blue is a perfect color choice when we want to reach for something cozy (one of my favorite combos is shorts plus a sweater), but still feel aligned with the season.

I began hunting out blue sweaters at the end of winter and was a little dismayed at the options, but soon realized it was just the wrong timing. Now that we’re knocking on summer’s door, retailers are making all of my dreams come true, releasing both new styles as well as sweaters I already own and love in the most amazing blue colors.

Below is a round-up of all my favorite sweaters available right now, from oversized to cropped silhouettes, cotton to cashmere fabrics — there’s a little something for every summertime occasion!

I rounded up 9 summer sweaters in beautiful shades of blue. Think: cashmere cardigans & cotton crewnecks from La Ligne, J.Crew, Reformation & more.

1. Reformation Fantino Cashmere Cardigan

I have to say this might be my favorite shade of blue in this whole sweater round-up. There’s something intoxicating about the color of Reformation’s Fantino Cashmere Cardigan.

I have to say this might be my favorite shade of blue in this whole sweater round-up. There’s something intoxicating about the color of Reformation’s Fantino Cashmere Cardigan, I’m even tricked into believing that wearing this could give me the same dopamine rush as a trip to the Maldives (I’m sure it can’t, but this color is working overtime). This cardigan looks just as good worn alone (perhaps with a pair of white jeans?) as it does open over a breezy dress.

I own and love this sweater. I prefer a size up for extra length in the body and arms (but it’s naturally, delightfully drapey in your true size).

2. Mango Rib Crop Sweater

I love this classic, rib-style sweater from Mango so much.

I love this classic, rib-style sweater from Mango so much, especially with a favorite pair of dusty blue jean shorts. The swooping sleeves make the sweater a little more enchanted than a typical pullover, and the cropped length would make this a great option to wear over a summer dress on a chilly night.

3. Free People Easy Street Crop Pullover

The Easy Street Pullover from Free People is a longtime favorite for several of us here at TME. This new crop silhouette makes the sweater a fantastic choice for breezy summer days.

The Easy Street Pullover from Free People is a longtime favorite for several of us here at TME. This new crop silhouette makes the sweater a fantastic choice for breezy summer days. There are a few soothing blue shades to choose from at Zappos, or you can head over to Free People for the full range of color choices including an almost neon blue and a mermaid teal.

4. J.Crew Cotton Linen Beach Sweater

J.Crew is giving us such beautiful blue with this Cotton Linen Beach Sweater.

Few things say summertime like a good linen material and J.Crew is giving us such beautiful blue with this Cotton Linen Beach Sweater. Reviews say the sweater runs a bit oversized with a slight open/sheer weave. And those contrasting blue hems?! Swoon.

5. Jenni Kayne Cotton Tunic Sweater

Jenni Kayne has become a personal favorite brand of mine; the quality + styles are worth the investment every time.

My personal favorite sweater of the bunch, simply for the shape. There’s something about an oversized pullover sweater that is extra cozy no matter what you pair it with, but this one would feel especially wonderful with linen pants. Jenni Kayne has become a personal favorite brand of mine; the quality and styles are worth the investment every time.

6. Vineyard Vines Cashmere Crewneck Sweater

Vineyard Vines is out here making sure we know cashmere is not just for colder months.

Vineyard Vines is out here making sure we know cashmere is not just for colder months. This lightweight cashmere sweater has subtle stripes for just a touch of nautical vibes, while the almost sheer quality of the fabric makes it the perfect layer over a tank and pair of jeans.

7. Gap Ottoman Cardigan

Gap’s Ottoman Cardigan comes in the most soothing shade of blue I’ve ever seen.

Gap’s Ottoman Cardigan comes in the most soothing shade of blue I’ve ever seen. Plus, the ribbed detailing makes this one extra interesting. What’s even better, you can grab these shorts to make a matching set which gives this sweater even more versatility, and makes it a great option for your summer packing list!

8. La Ligne Marina Sweater

The color blue together with nautical stripes on the Marina Sweater by La Ligne is summer sweater perfection.

The color blue combined with nautical stripes on the Marina Sweater by La Ligne is summer sweater perfection. With a chunky, 100% cotton knit and rolled neck hem, this sweater is ready for chilly evenings or breezy days along the water.

9. Naked Cashmere Rue Button-Up Cashmere Top

The top from Naked Cashmere is unlike any other I’ve seen -- its exaggerated short-sleeve length makes it cozy enough to be considered a sweater.

I snapped up the Rue Button Up Cashmere Top from Naked Cashmere in a neutral shade when I first found it a few months ago, and I’ve since been dreaming about this blue version. The top is unlike any other I’ve seen — a major reason I’m so in love — its exaggerated short-sleeve length makes it cozy enough to be considered a sweater. Paired with cotton shorts, linen pants, and any denim, this top has been worn heavily on repeat. In terms of fit, it’s truly oversized, a medium fits me like it does the model.

Are there any blue sweaters you’re loving that I didn’t include? Let me know in the comments!
