Universal Standard: Cute Dresses, a Rad Pair of Pants and a Fab Range of Sizes

Universal Standard has been on my radar for a few years now, but wow! In the last year or so they have added so many new pieces. They have some of the softest basics and loungewear, but now they have a ton of cute dresses, overalls, denim, sweaters, workwear, activewear, maternity and more…PLUS the perfect pair of track-style pants I’ve been searching for!

The best thing? Universal Standard offers one of the most comprehensive size ranges I’ve seen, from 00-40 and are changing the game on standard sizing. Check out their Fit Liberty line where you can exchange an item if your size changes within a year of purchase. Amazing. You may have seen me reading their wonderful children’s book with my daughter on my Instagram last year. SUCH a phenomenal message. I love supporting a company like this.

Universal Standard Dresses & Pants: Comfy, Stylish & Exciting

I decided to order up some dresses and try ’em on, since that’s what I love doing for you all. The pants were a stellar surprise, but they’re not the only goodie in the batch. Now, let’s check out some of the cute stuff!

So, dresses were my main focus for this try-on sesh, but last minute I added on these trousers that have a track style vibe and–y’all–new favorites! They’re a perfect length on my 5’4″ self (I’m typically right in between regular and petite length,) and they’re so flattering and rad! Here I’m wearing Universal Standard size 3XS (2-4) and I think the inseam on these is about 27-28″ (it’s unclear on the site). While the waistband is just a tiny bit snug, they fit so well everywhere else and the waist is soft enough I wouldn’t size up. I’m usually a 4/6 or 27/28 in other brands, for reference. These are definitely NOT track pants, but trousers (back trouser pocket) with a sporty vibe; the fabric is thick but soft. So so good. They also come in black with a black stripe that gives a more tuxedo pant look. I’ll be honest, I might need both.

Dress | Mules

So, don’t get me wrong, I love a shirt dress lewk. Always have. But who do they make most shirt dresses for? Not my body type I guess. While this one is still a little too long, it fits my hips AND in the bust! I am going to have to hem it some, but worth it. (Universal Standard offers quite a few items in petite sizing, just not this one.) I love, love that the sleeves are wider. It’s a cute oversized vibe that also allows me to actually roll the sleeves up to above my elbow if I want. Score!

Blazer | Dress | Similar Heels

I was so excited to have a shirt dress fit that I tried this one a few ways. I popped on this ivory Madewell blazer I’m currently obsessed with. Loving the long-over-long slightly oversized look.

Dress | Tee | Clog Sandals

I like thinking outside the box a bit and I’ve always adored interesting layering. I love this combo. A cropped tee would look cute here, too.

Ooh, So Lovely | Sonya Satin V Neck Dress

Tons of cute dresses & perfect track-style pants, in addition to inclusive messaging & sizing (petites to plus) — we're obsessed w/ Universal Standard. Try-on sesh inside.

Dress | Similar Heels

Ooh, this Sonya dress is so lovely! I felt quite fancy like I would sport this to an art gallery opening or something, but it’s also insanely comfy. There are small slits at the hem on both sides and a nice flattering v neck. It was hard to photograph, but there is extra fabric in a cool drapey shape at the hips (but when in selfie-mode my arms cover it.) I love the slightly oversized cut but do wish it were a tiny bit shorter on me. Wearing a 3XS.

Cute & Comfy | Geneva Knit V Neck Dress

Tons of cute dresses & perfect track-style pants, in addition to inclusive messaging & sizing (petites to plus) — we're obsessed w/ Universal Standard. Try-on sesh inside.

Dress | Similar Heels

Such a cute versatile dress! This one is jersey knit and I tried a size up, 2XS (6-8.) I like the longer length on this for a slightly dressier/comfier vibe than the petite version I’ll show below. The crewneck version of this is the only dress offered in petite right now. I hope they’ll be able to offer more! They do offer other pieces in petite sizing though.

So, So Cute | Petite Geneva Dress

Dress | Sneakers

So so cute! If I weren’t already heavy in the t-shirt dress category, I’d be snapping this one up. I still might, actually. It’s so so cute (I just can’t stop saying that, ha!) You can see the significant difference in length from the regular above. I do wish this petite Geneva dress came in the v neck option. Wearing a 2XS (6-8) here. The petite line does seem to run overall smaller as most petite lines do…ie. it’s not just the length that is shorter.

Elevated House Dress, Anyone? | Crosby Caftan Dress

Tons of cute dresses & perfect track-style pants, in addition to inclusive messaging & sizing (petites to plus) — we're obsessed w/ Universal Standard. Try-on sesh inside.

Dress | Similar Heels

This caftan style is SO cute! Elevated house dress anyone? It’s kind of a column shape, but with room for hips and it even has pockets! This was the only dress I had to steam before shooting. The fabric is gorgeously soft (crepe-like) with stretch yet it’s substantial. The front panel feels like silk. The site says it’s made from a brushed cotton twill but it feels much softer than that sounds. Really lovely! Perhaps just too long on me, but I honestly don’t mind it with heels. So comfy and an almost cooling feel to the fabric. Wearing size 3XS.

  1. Love, love, love Universal Standard! I’m consistently impressed with the quality of the fabric too- looking at you, my black joggers!

    • Ooh I’ll have to check those out! Yes, they have great attention to detail on their pieces! Totally love them, too. 🙂

  2. I was just reading rave reviews about the long body suit?! I could see tme doing a “we all tried this” piece for how you’d each wear the long body suit.

    • Oh interesting! I saw that there the other day but this mama isn’t sure about having to deal with pulling it on and off all day long haha. Something to consider though! Maybe i need to consult other team members haha.

  3. I just ordered that next to naked full body suit–not sure I’m going to be happy or not but the reviewers were so enthusiastic I figured I should try.
