Warm & Cute: My Go-To Outfit For Socializing Outside

I’ve been working on a few new outfit formulas for outside. I’ve always been a fan of zeroing in on one killer combo (this jacket, these boots, that hat), but I wanted a fresh take from my usual, which has been worn on repeat for several years now. Given the current state of the world, that ‘fresh take’ has to actually work for long periods outside, so, ideally, I wanted something both warmer than my leather jacket, yet more interesting than my black puffer.

Well?

Put this faux-leather Abercrombie puffer jacket high on your wishlist, Gang. It’s so freaking good.

We're working new cute winter outfits for socializing outside. A fresh take, if you will. This faux-leather puffer jacket is a must, for starters.

These puffers come in a wide range of colors & textures (including velvet and faux fur), but I’m especially into the various shades of brown — each one is gorgeous. And brown tones are rich enough to work with my favorite black boots (the ones I wear with thick wool socks). I love how these pieces breathe new life into my ol’ skinny jeans, making them look modern again.

Sidenote: These boots that I love have all but sold out at Nordstrom….but I did find more sizes at ASOS, if interested.

Outfit Details

puffer: Abercrombie Faux-Leather Mini Puffer (size small) – I’m so obsessed with this jacket that I miiiiight pick it up in faux fur or velvet, too (especially since those fabrics are 40% off). But if you only want one, the faux-leather is 100% worth it. It’s SO freaking good.

jeans: old rag & bone Ninas…but this washed black wash (in the same style) is freaking perfection and on sale. If you insist on blue, this wash has seriously cool whiskering. (Both pairs recommended are still the rag & bone Nina style.)

boots: Vagabond Cosmo 2.0 – almost completely sold out, but ASOS currently has all sizes in stock!!

hat: UGG Cable Knit Beanie (the tan color I’m wearing sold out at Nordstrom…but I also found it at Amazon)

bag: Clare V. Mini Suede Crossbody Bag – picked up this beaut at the Anni Sale, and am still so happy with it! Currently 40% off!

mask: Slip 100% silk face mask – once you try these, you’ll never go back. Linzi did a full review of these face coverings, here.

mittens: old, but this pair of Isotoner mittens is really cute and lined (I swear by lined mittens — it makes a huge difference)…or OOOthis pair (also lined). Dang, Kohl’s does cute mittens really well. Also these ridiculous faux fur ones, haha. With….wait for it…YES: matching earmuffs. OMG — somebody call Scotti.

I love when I have a formula figured out — it makes getting ready so much easier. I basically just wear the same thing all winter (high-rise skinny jeans + tucked-in sweater) so having a chic outerwear combo means I can get out the door fast…but still feel alright.

My next step is to to create another outfit formula with this jacket and warmer winter boots. I’ll play around.

xo,

  1. Oh my word. It has been a LONG time since I have been excited about fashion…given the chaos of the world and COVID in general. But this post? This post is amazing! I love it- fashion for the times I am living in. Now, questions. I have these boots headed my way along with the Aqua ones you featured, which I think have a higher shaft? Thoughts on which might work better with a variety of jeans (say skinny and a straighter leg?) Also, which brown looks richer color wise? I believe you have this one and maybe a lighter one? Buying it ASAP. I think I found my Thanksgiving outfit! Looking forward to some posts on how to style these boots with different jeans….

    • Beth – I currently have THREE of the brown faux-leather Abercrombie puffers at my house, and I’ll do a quick IG story later to show you the differences – all are really good. In terms of the boots, I think both the Aqua boots OR the Vagabond boots will work with straight leg or skinny jeans…you just want to find the right shaft height for your legs. Both will easily slide under cropped straight legs (or mom jeans), but try them on OVER skinnies to see which height is more flattering.

  2. I ordered the Vagabond boots from Garmentory after your first post. I had been looking for a lug sole combat-ish looking boot but with a higher, tighter shaft. Before I saw your post, the only ones I liked were $700+. I love them!! The sizing reviews from Nordstrom were spot on. I’ve been wearing mine with my old 1980s vintage Wranglers and have been getting loads of comments from cool college age women- probably the best validation that you are ahead of the curve on this trend. When I wear them I feel like my 25 year old self from the mid- 90s would give my current 47 year old a big thumbs up :))

  3. So glad you posted about this coat! Have been looking at it, but as a blonde I am not sure which brown color to order. Would love to see a comparison between the colors.

  4. Thanks Shana! I will go take a look at the IG stories now. And that makes sense to try them OVER skinnies. You’re a genius- and love that you have THREE of the brown faux-leather puffers.
