3 Cute Winter Layers I’ve Been Wearing On Repeat

It finally got super-chilly-cold here in Portland, and I need all the warm winter layers! I recently tried out a few amazing coats, jackets and cardigans, and I thought I’d share them with y’all here styled up a bit.

One is essentially a throw you can wear around comfortably and stylishly (here’s a similar poncho), one is a puffer from Athleta that’s actually unique and interesting, and the third is a soft but heavy-weight shacket that even has pockets! I know.

3 Warm Winter Layers I Want To Live In: Jackets, Coats & Sweater Capes

In my latest video, I’m sharing my three favorite winter layers — seriously can’t get enough of them. Let’s check them out!

1. Let’s Just Call It A Wearable Blanket

Outfit Details: aerie ribbed sweater cape (sold out) OR similar option — ooh, or this one | AllSaints denim shirtdress (6) OR similar | similar faux-leather pants | Blondo waterproof suede knee boots (TTS)

The first one I honestly want to live in is this sweater cape from aerie. It’s truly like a wearable blanket, and I love it. I’m not typically into coastal-grandma chic, but I’m digging this! It comes in a couple of other colors and would be a fab gift.

Since mine sold out over Black Friday weekend, I’ve linked a few other great options below! LOVE this kimono from Free People!

2. An Actually Chic Puffer Jacket With Fab Details

Outfit Details: Athleta Legend Downtown Metallic Jacket (S) | Sorel Joan of Arctic Wedge III Chelsea Boots | | similar Levi’s 501 ’90s Jeans

The second awesome coat find is the Athleta Legend Downtown Metallic Jacket that I first found when working on our downloadable style guide for all things coats (check it out for all the winter-coat goodness!). This baby is gorgeous, unique, water-repellent, covers your booty, and is made with responsibly sourced down fill and recycled poly.

I’m wearing a small here, and the fit’s perfect over thinner layers, but perhaps size up if you want to wear a sweatshirt or sweater under. LOVE the cut and fabric for something fun and different! Also comes in black. Offered in sizes XXS to XL.

3. Finally, A Shacket I Can Get On Board With

Outfit Details: Banana Republic Factory Plaid Shacket (S) | similar Levi’s 501 ’90s Jeans | more vintage Levi’s on eBay

The third jacket I’m totally into right now is this plaid shacket from Banana Republic Factory. I love the boxy cut and that it’s not too, too long. The neutral colors are super-easy to wear and style too. It’s soft and has a comfy inner lining to make it a legit jacket instead of just a shirt. Oh, hey, it would be cute with the aerie sweater cape layered on top for a grandma-meets-lumberjack vibe, haha. Maybe.

Also, the jeans I’m wearing are vintage, but these Levi’s 501 ’90s jeans look super-similar and awesome! I’d size up like I did in my vintage pair (it’s a 30, and I’m a 28/29 when I want jeans to be fitted.) They’re the comfiest bumming-around jeans right now but cute with a heel when I want to take it up a notch!

Hope these outfits provided a little inspiration for getting dressed right now! Until next time…

  1. Question about the Blondo knee boots. I have a few pairs of the Blondo Booties and I love love them. How do you think their knee boots would be for larger calfs? I have a thick calf situation going and some of the knee boots are just too tight. Thanks.

    • These have a nice wider calf opening, especially at the top. Compared to most knee boots I’d say these definitely offer more room!
