Heh. OK, y’all. I know I said I didn’t like flares a couple months ago…so please don’t @ me here. BUT… I guess I should have specified: I only like flares for the holidays and only if they’re in a killer velvet. Haha.
I did, however, mention that flares feel glam to me…and this is just about the only time of year I am interested in going a little glam.
Velvet Flare Pants: Glam Enough For A Holiday Party, Comfy Enough For The Office
My mom and I did our seasonal trip to Anthropologie when she was visiting a few weeks back. I knew I needed to be thinking holiday outfits a bit, but wasn’t super inspired until I saw these pants. Now, yes, the dang exact blue velvet flares I have on are already sold out in this color, but there’s a beautiful gray/green option still available. The fit is amazing and so flattering (bum shot below). Even if you don’t love flares, you might love these! I’ve also linked to a bunch of other velvet pants at the end…so, let’s style them up!
Velvet Flares: Glam It Up For The Holiday Party
Like I said, it’s rare that I glam it up, but if there’s a time for it at all, that time is the holidays.

After unexpectedly finding the pants at Anthro, I popped around the corner to Free People…saw sequins, channeled my best impression of Scotti by adding on giant sparkly earrings and came home with both.
At first, I wasn’t sure which shade of tee to pair with the blue pants, but I think the rose gold works, because of my oxblood jacket. It gives it a tone-on-tone thing that keeps it from being too pastel or too precious. The leather and moto details help, too.
You could wear a gold or silver sequined tee with an ivory moto, a silver and black jacket or even swap out my rose gold for whatever phenomenal color that wine version is! Dang! Gorg. That wasn’t in store.

Fit notes: Pants are TTS. Wearing a 28 here, and I’m 5’4″ with 2-inch heels on, for reference. TTS on the sequin tee, wearing a S. AllSaints moto jackets are also TTS, and I’m wearing a 6 here. I linked to the same shade, but just a slightly different style that’s in stock. Size up though to wear sweaters underneath. They are hands-down my favorite leather jackets!
Velvet Flares: Keep It Comfy For The Office
We’re all about practicality around here, and while velvet pants may not seem like the most practical closet choice, I’m here to show you they can be.
I wish I had an office other than my own house to go to in this outfit. I love this look! It would be easy to recreate in a variety of color combos and is really just versatile enough for many different occasions.
Vest | Shirt | Pants | Similar Heels | Similar Coat
The white button-down shirt makes a great base to play around with other options (it’s also my very favorite button-down by the way.) I love a neutral color coat to top it all off. If you go with the pretty olive gray pants like mine, the rust vest still works, too. And maybe a chocolate brown, black or gray overcoat on top. Shoes were hard to choose here, but you can’t go wrong with taupe. A neutral cheetah print heel would also be rad.

Fit Notes: This vest is so comfy, but I did size up to a M to accommodate a shirt underneath. I’m a 32DD, and a 6 in fitted tops and dresses, for reference. I’m wearing a 6 in the button down, so true to size on that, as well. It’s such a great layering piece!
