This Zella Long Puffer Is The Best Topper Right Now

We’re at the point in the year where I get really sick of giant coats. I’m fortunate to live in a pretty moderate climate here in Portland, but it’s rare I ever go anywhere here without some kind of jacket. So, friends, I have to keep mixing it up or this gal just gets so bored. Time for another puffy jacket, but make it sleeveless and long! Heh.

This Long Hooded Puffer Vest Is Making My Comfy Street Style Outfit

I ordered this amazing long puffer vest from Zella recently on a whim, thinking it looked like a great transition piece and boy did I luck out! It’s fabulous. So I wanted to style it up quickly for y’all, since their pieces always sell so fast. Spoiler alert: it’s comfy, it’s good, and I love it!

I ordered this amazing long puffer vest from Zella on a whim & threw it on w/ wide-leg sweatpants, No.6 clog boots & a blanket scarf. It's my new fav go-to.

Puffer Vest Outfit Idea: Wide-Leg Sweatpants, Chunky Boots & Blanket Scarf

At first I wasn’t sure how I’d style up the vest beyond just an over-leggings-and-a-sweatshirt sporty look. That would be a lovely way to wear it and one I’ll probably repeat often. But I wanted to mix it up a bit. What am I wearing these days besides leggings? Yep, sweatpants. I threw on heeled clog boots and finished it off with a blanket scarf, and it’s my new favorite go-to for everyday.

Outfit Details

Zella Puffer Vest: What a pleasant surprise this cozy vest was! I thought it might be tough to style, but as I mentioned, new fav outfit combo. True-to-size, a great hood, super-soft and cozy, and a perfect layer for this time of year.

Madewell Cardigan: One of my most-worn items right now, either layered over a top or on its own. See how I initially styled it here over a flannel and how I’m wearing it here on its own.

The Great Sweatpants: These keep selling out, as we know from my recent post styling them up. But I’m digging this pair from Free People and this pair from Etsy, that are a little less expensive. If you want a regular, non-slouchy version, these sweatpants at Nordstrom look great and are under $50. I’ll keep my eye out for other pairs!

Clog Boots: My No.6 clog boots have also sold out, but I’m digging these boots instead as a more springy version and for a similar vibe without the shearling. I also love the Dansko boots I got recently, though they have a much lower platform.

Blanket Scarf: The one from & Other Stories looks almost exactly like my sold out scarf from Everlane. Love this color, and it winds up working with everything.

Minkoff Backpack: I just can’t quit these bags. They’re the best and easiest to carry. Love this subtle zebra print. Currently on sale for almost half off!

Shop Long Puffer Vests

This is probably the wrong time of year to find long puffer vests since they seem to be selling out, but I was able to round up a few alternatives! This one from Buckle won’t work in the widget below, but it’s super cute and $60!

Laura's fun, creative style is, as she says, "somewhere between Madewell and Joan Jett" (YES.) and she delivers some mean dressing room selfies so keep an eye out for those. Fun fact? She loves getting her hair cut and we love to see what she has up her sleeve.

  1. Love your style and just today was wishing for a long vest to cover my bum. My friend has a really cute long vest from Zara – looks like they have a few choices.

  2. I saw a British blogger style one of these vests a few months ago and I’ve been mildly obsessed ever since! There is something so cool about them. I especially love how you’ve styled this one! So good!

  3. Oh, this is so great on you, Laura! Sad I missed it in my size. I was looking for a longer vest a few months ago but didn’t find the Zella. In the end, I ordered one from Land’s End (?!?) where the only thing I’ve bought for years is kids’ outerwear. It ended up being backordered, so I can’t report. I will say, though, that I tried two versions of the Smartwool long vest from Backcountry, and neither were winners at all for my pearish self. One was just not . . . perfect, but the golden-hued one you’ve linked was impossibly tight around my hips, and not cute left open. Bummer!

  4. Love the looks! I am curious about the Mother jeans. My measurements fall in the size chart pretty well so can I be sure to order the size indicated? Thanks.
