Where are my tall ladies? This is a very important announcement. [grabs megaphone]
THERE ARE TWO COATS THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT.
2 Stylish Long Winter Coats (Tall Ladies, These Are For You)
These long winter coats! One is a classic, longline silhouette by Topshop in the most beautiful pale blue, the other, a retro-inspired wisteria cloud of delight by Free People. I tried both of them on, took them on a little stroll through town, as you will see below, and let me just tell you right now…if you have the height, you need to take full advantage of being able to wear one (or both) of them. I have realized that I should do the same and would be a fool not to. A fool!
So, the two styles are pretty different from each other…and yet! I genuinely still have a hard time picking my favorite from the two. How is one supposed to choose? I do not know. Maybe you’ll be able to with ease…

Topshop Brooke Double Breasted Long Coat
I knew this one was going to be fantastic as soon as I put it on, with its classic double-breasted style and pale blue color. Well, I then saw these photos and…I now sleep in it. haha. Noooo, but close! Topshop always has a way of providing fun and trendy pieces, but what I really like is that they also lean towards that classic Euro-style. This coat makes an outfit. I am a massive fan.
p.s. It is not a heavy coat. I find it to be perfect for our upper 30-50s winter temps down here in the Carolinas. Now, I will make the argument that it could be warm enough for colder climates if layered over a long-sleeved, thick sweater…maybe even throw on a hat, scarf and gloves (I’m not very familiar with those things, but I’ve heard they can be useful).
Fit Notes: I am wearing the size 6, which is the equivalent of a US 4/6. Also, it’s important to note that I am 5’10…which has this coat hitting roughly 3 inches below my knee. It also comes in a camel and light grey.

Free People Ella Quilted Puffer Coat
I let out a snort-laugh when I took this puffer jacket out of the box. It looked like a lot, but…then I put it on and wore it around. The only way I can think to accurately describe what this puffer feels like — a cozy, Ready-to-Wear comforter. That said! It is not heavy like some comforters can be (I guess they aren’t supposed to be worn around, soooo)…it’s warm, but light. If you happen to like that oversized look, you may also seriously fall for this coat as I did.
Fit Notes: I am wearing the Small. If you wear FP, you know that their stuff tends to run large. I stuck with my usual Small, though, and find that the slightly oversized look works for me. This one hits my 5’10 frame at about 3 in. above my knee. The Ella Puffer is also available at Verishop (in black + the wisteria color I am wearing). I found it here in a cream color and it’s on sale!

Stay warm out there!

The blue one would look better on you if it were the correct size. The blue one looks much too big (across the shoulders, for example).
I always appreciate a tall girl post! How does the Free People jacket close? It doesn’t look like it zips.
It does not zip, unfortunately, but it does button…and they seemed to hold well. I felt very warm with the coat buttoned. I hope that helps! 🙂 Cheers, Cams
Thanks, Ella! This coat is actually supposed to fit that way – you can see it in the product image on the model. Now, I appreciate a slouchier/boyfriend look, but not all people do. I get that! Cheers, Cams
