As I’ve mentioned dozens (hundreds?) of times before, I basically wear the same thing all winter: jeans, cozy sweater, puffer. I’ve been wearing some form of this combo since college, and I blame the cold, cold North for my disinterest in changing things up. It’s cute (enough) and warm and…that’s it! It’s good. I’m good. We’re all good.

While my color palette rarely changes year to year, I do, however, make outfit tweaks to stay current and feel a little fresher. Which really means I update the overall silhouette and maybe change out a few accessories and/or details. This year? Workwear jeans are it.
Winter Outfit Formula, Meet The Workwear Trend
I’ve really been embracing the longer, looser denim styles, and workwear jeans are my favorite yet. Add an almost-cropped, boxy sweater and an oversized-yet-lightweight puffer jacket, and I’ve got an winter outfit formula that will easily take me into spring.
Denim Refresh: Welder Jeans, Carpenter Jeans & Cargo Pants
Whether they come with welder details like mine, carpenter details, or even good ‘ol fashioned cargo pockets, utility jeans are such a cool, easy upgrade. And I especially love them with Adidas Sambas or a similar, low-profile sneaker like my Adidas Gazelle Bold.

I’m wearing a pair of welder jeans from AMO (a new fav I fully reviewed in this video), but sadly, they’re almost sold out. Have no fear! This is such a strong trend that there are a ton of options to choose from. Here are my current favorites:

I’m Still In Love With This Naked Cashmere Sweater
It feels like I’ve talked about this Naked cashmere sweater ad nauseam this winter — suffice to say, it’s still my favorite. A perfect shape, it comes in great colors (I own two) and, happily, was recently re-stocked after flying off the shelves in November.

A Packable Puffer Jacket So Nice I Bought It Twice
This puffer is Halfday’s packable puffer and it’s easily the best lightweight puffer I’ve ever tried. The shape is slightly cocoon-y and oversized, so it fits over even the chunkiest of sweaters, and it cinches in at the waist, keeping me toasty. I’ve worn it out to restaurants (looks really cool over a dress, too) and it’s my go-to for cross-country skiing. I’ve found this jacket so useful I have it in two colors — something I almost never do (that darn cashmere sweater as my one other exception).

Adidas Gazelle Bold…The End.
The shoes are Adidas Gazelle Bold, which basically means they’re Adidas’ Gazelle sneakers, but with a platform, giving me a few extra inches of height. I love that I can get this extra height without sacrificing the low-profile look. They also have a surprisingly cushy insole and are suuuuper comfortable.

So that’s it! That’s my big trick for making jeans-and-a-sweater something I’m willing to wear for months on end…year after year after year after year after…
Etc. You get it.
