Your Summer Styling Guide: Flowy Pants, Skirts & Shorts

When S and I started talking about summer outfits, we both agreed that all we want to wear when the temps rise is some sort of soft, easy (and comfortable!) bottom situation. Think: flowy pants, skirts and shorts, all in a lightweight fabric.

Because when it’s hot out, the last thing I want is something constricting around the waist or sticking to my skin. We’re going for breathable, comfortable, but still cute.

So, I went to do my usual thing and checked out Nordstrom’s new arrivals section. I came up with six different outfits that’ll work for those warm days. You can find all of these outfits on our Nordstrom storefront, too.

Summer Outfit Idea 1: How To Wear Black On Hot Days

Black is my most-worn color in my wardrobe, and that doesn’t stop come summer. So, I opt for flowy black pants or skirts, breathable black shoes, and a lightweight top.

Summer Outfit Idea 2: Style White Linen Pants With Cool Accessories

Linen pants can easily lean preppy (and, hey, that’s totally fine). But for my personal style, I like to wear them with casual tanks and shoes, and any type of cool accessories to balance out that prep. And for breezy days down the shore, I’m popping on a lightweight denim jacket.

Summer Outfit Idea 3: Wear The Pop Of Color (Hint: Coral & Cobalt)

We’ve been loving on some cobalt blues over here, and now that the heat has officially joined us, I’m itching for a pop of color in my wardrobe. I’d keep my accessories and shoes pretty neutral (minus that stunning bracelet), but I’d add a coral lip for that extra contrast and POP.

Summer Outfit Idea 4: Make Flowy White Skirts Less Precious

I love a flowy maxi skirt come summertime, but I’m always thinking of ways to make them feel a little less precious and sweet. Fun accessories, casual shoes like flip-flops, and a washed out tee is just one of my fave ways to do it.

Summer Outfit Idea 5: Add Some Textures

Really, this outfit all started with these pants (how cool are they?!). I’m torn between both the dusty navy and white color, but I’d style both of them with a knit tank and accessories that have some texture (hello, stunning bag and hoops).

PS: those Croc sandals are some of our team faves right now.

Summer Outfit Idea 6: Bring Fall Colors Into Summertime

It’s no secret that fall and winter are my favorite seasons, and fall is hands-down my favorite season for fashion. So, I always find myself trying to bring those warm fall colors into summer (and these pieces easily transition into fall, too).
