It’s time for the dreaded bathing suit search. I never look forward to shopping for swimsuits (I’m probably not alone in this), because it’s tricky finding tops to support a larger chest. Even if I can get excited about fun colors and patterns, it’s difficult to find those same pretty swimsuits in a supportive style. This year, I’m determined to find the best bikini tops for larger breasts that are cute AND functional. I’m talking style and support.
Cute Bikini Tops For Large Busts
When I started my bikini top search this year, I had a few things in mind:
- Range of coverage! Sometimes I want to put the girls away…and other times I want to let them breathe (while still feeling secure).
- Strap width: If the cups hold well, it’s okay for the straps to be a little thinner, but sometimes they can HURT. Trying different sizes of straps to see what works best is super important.
- Style variety: When searching for a good bikini top, it’s best to test different styles. Some hold and suit larger breasts better than others, so I try to shop with an open mind.
Here are my current fav bathing suit tops for a larger bust.
1. Summersalt Ruffle Oasis Bikini Top
Bikini Top (size 8)
Size Range: 2-12
Pros: This Ruffle Oasis Bikini Top from Summersalt is the cutest thing. I am all about a fun retro look, and this top is totally that. So, of course, I’m planning on pairing it with my red cat-eye sunglasses for a ‘50s inspired look. The ruffles on the shoulders are fun, flirty and the perfect size. For the fit of this top, their size guide said a 38 bust was an 8 (M) and a 40 bust was a 10 (L). I fall in the middle with a 39-inch bust so I decided to order a size 8 for a snug fit. To my surprise, the one-inch difference ended up working perfectly. It has adjustable straps, built-in cups and a band of grip along the top seam to hold it up.
Cons: I couldn’t find any!
My Takeaway: This full-coverage top is my favorite for its practicality and fun style.
Bikini Top (size 8)
2. Everlane The Square-Neck Bikini Top
Bikini Top (size L)
Size Range: XXS – XXL
Pros: Square-neck bikini tops are something I’m really into this summer. They are reliable and full coverage, but with a fresh cut. This Square-Neck Bikini Top from Everlane is super-cute. First, I love the busy pattern (it comes in four different solid colors, too) because I can pair it with any solid bottoms I already have. The straps are adjustable and thick for an even weight distribution… which means no red marks from thin straps digging in. This one does come with removable pads, too.
Cons: If you are looking for a lift, this is not the one. Underwire is usually much better for lift.
My Takeaway: All in all, this is a top I can trust. It holds me in place without revealing too much.
Bikini Top (size L)
3. Athleta Maldives High Neck Bikini Top
Bikini Top (size 34DD)
Size Range: 32B/C-40DD
Pros: I have never tried a top like this Athleta High Neck Bikini Top before, and all I can say is that I’m blown away. It can double as both a bikini top and a tank top. Throw on a pair of shorts and you are set to stroll up and down the boardwalk. The high neck gives major sun protection and no chance for an accidental slip up. Plus, the straps are thick with two hooks in the back (one around the bust and one around the neck) for double safety. I like that it has a more open back to balance out the extra coverage in the front. This top also has padding and underwire.
Cons: I am someone who does not tan…maybe because I am smothered in sunscreen year round. That being said, if you are someone who loves a good summer glow, this may not leave the most flattering tan lines.
My Takeaway: If you aren’t worried about tan lines and want a top you 100% can trust, this is the best option.
Bikini Top (size 34DD)
4. Freya Jewel Cove Underwire Padded Bikini Top
Bikini Top Nordstrom | Bikini Top Amazon | (size 34DD)
Size Range: 30DD-40G
Pros: Looking for a bikini top that fits like a bra? Look no further. This bikini top from Nordstrom has the thick padding of an everyday bra with a bit more structure. The underwire helps to hold everything up and in place without creating too much cleavage. It also has adjustable straps, which is important for getting that perfect fit. This sweetheart neckline top works well for outward facing boobs because of the separation between each cup (no uniboob here).
Cons: It looks more like a bra then a bikini top though I don’t really mind.
My Takeaway: I really love this top for its simple pattern and reliable comfort.

5. Athleta Twist Up Bikini Top
Size Range: 32B/C-40DD
Pros: This Athleta Twist Up Bikini (similar) is a fun, flirty top. I purchased it in the color Vermillion, a bright happy red. First, these adjustable (yay) straps are slightly wider than the Aerie top (mentioned below) and has a medium to low coverage neckline. The highlights: underwire, padding and soft material. The ruched criss-cross in the front hides the padding and the underwire keeps everything in place…double bonus.
Cons: None!
My Takeaway: A simple, classic, flattering top.
6. Aerie Wrap Halter Bikini Top
Size Range: XXS-XXL
Pros: I bought the Aerie Wrap Halter Top (similar) last year and it has easily become my favorite (maybe because I wore it in the ocean and it stayed on…despite my being washed ashore by a wave). The color, Olive Fun, is so calming and neutral. It also comes in black, blue and red. My favorite thing about this suit is that I can tie the back as tight as I want for that extra level of support. It has the right amount of coverage to feel secure but still shows off the figure.
Cons: It was confusing to put on at first, but with a few wears it became pretty easy. Another note about this top is that it is the most cleavage-y and has the thinnest straps of my bikini top picks.
My Takeaway: This was the first bikini top I’ve purchased that I’ve felt actually comfortable in while not having to sacrifice style.
Summer feels so much better when I know I don’t have to worry about my bikini tops. I can run around carefree while the girls stay in place. Let me know if you have any bikini tops you swear by or are thinking of trying any of these!
