A couple weeks ago, I hit that inevitable early-summer moment when you open your closet, spot the dingy pair of flip-flops you’ve had since college, and think; “Nope. We’re done.”
Soooo, I ordered THIRTY ONE pairs of flip-flops! All styles. All price points. Some I used to love, others I’d been eyeing for a while but wasn’t sure were worth the hype. I wanted a pair (or two) that felt low-key but elevated, comfortable but not schlumpy, and actually wearable beyond the beach or pool.
I walked around the city. I stood in line at my coffee shop. I padded around the apartment & office. I wore them barefoot and with socks (kidding!). And I finally narrowed it down to four pairs that I not only liked…but wanted to keep.

I Tested 30 Pairs of Flip-Flops: These 6 Are The Best

The brands I tried were Reef, Tkees, Havaianas, Time and Tru, Olukai, FitFlop, Ipanema, Rainbow, Yosi Samra, Sam Edelman, Beek and Free People – and I must say, some brands stood out.
I oddly… did not like the majority of the ones I tried on. I didn’t think I was so picky when it comes to footwear, nor did I think the Havaianas that I’ve been wearing for the past couple years were already my faves. Many of the “fancier” ones that I was excited to try (Tkees, especially) were way too hard or fit bizarrely wrong. BTW, in desperation of finding the best, I threw in a couple of pairs of slides to try because I wasn’t having much flip flop luck.
Okkk, let’s dive in.
1. REEF Sandy Flip Flop

- WATER-FRIENDLY: Yes
- FOOTBED: Reef flex triple density EVA
- OUTSOLE/UPPER: Durable rubber
- FIT: TTS
- PRICE: $40
- VIBE: Chill & nostalgic
Pros: A surfer-girl classic; comfy + casual, cushioned footbed, wide, soft straps that don’t rub, durable for daily wear (for apparently years) + under $40.
These are the ones I’d wear for, like, an entire casual Saturday: errands, coffee + a farmer’s market run. They’re lightweight and soft in that old-school REEF way, but with enough support to not feel like I’m teetering. Not fancy but so reliable.

Cons: A little bulkier than sleeker styles, not waterproof (avoid soaking the fabric straps), casual vibe; not ideal for dressing up.
2. Havaianas Classic Flip-Flops: Square Toe
Where To Buy: Nordstrom | Havaianas
- WATER-FRIENDLY: Yes
- FOOTBED: Cushioned footbed
- OUTSOLE/UPPER: Rubber upper, lining and sole
- FIT: TTS – If between sizes, order next size up.
- PRICE: $54
- VIBE: Clean girl summer meets Y2K
Pros: An all-weekend-worthy pair that feels like walking on squishy yoga mats. Ultra-lightweight and packable, affordable & come in tons of colors (easy to match to swimsuits or outfits).
These are basically the “nice jeans” of flip-flops – all due to that sleek square toe. It’s crazy how much a little bit of an edge ups the style. The slim straps, minimal profile, and the fun little crystal detail help, too. Not suuuper thick cushion, but definitely comfy enough. Very vacation-y.

Cons: Not much arch support, the sole can feel a little flimsy for long walks + can feel too basic if you’re after something more polished.

3. Reef Ginger Flip Flop
Where To Buy: Amazon
- WATER-FRIENDLY: Yes
- FOOTBED: REEF flex triple density EVA construction
- OUTSOLE/UPPER: Woven polyester strap, rubber
- FIT: TTS
- PRICE: $40
- VIBE: No-frills surfer girl meets college throwback
Pros: The thick foam is great, style is simple & lightweight and the price is really good. Great for packing.
Cons: I had to fix the strap after slipping them on (ugh). The crochet detail is a little scratchy between the toes. Not my favorite, but Shana’s a big fan of this pair!
4. Havaianas Classic Flip-Flops

Where To Buy: Anthropologie | Free People | Bloomingdale’s | Nordstrom Rack
- WATER-FRIENDLY: Yes
- FOOTBED: Cushy rubber
- OUTSOLE/UPPER: Rubber
- FIT: TTS
- PRICE: $38
- VIBE: Colorful resort energy
Pros: Lightweight + beach-ready, fun bold prints, super durable rubber sole & affordable (there’s usually a cute print on sale!).
I haven’t really worn too many patterns on my feet, but this print (in collaboration with Farm Rio) was soooo fun. The colors are vibrant but wearable, and they make even my old black slip dress feel playful. Also: surprisingly comfortable. I wore these even walking my dog (!!!) and didn’t want to take them off. Basically, all of the classic Havaianas (both round + square toe & all the pretty prints) are GREAT. I wore these ones allll summer long last year and am already doing the same.

Cons: Not much arch support & casual only – not quite long-city-walk approved.
5. Beek Sunbeam Flip Flop
Where To Buy: Nordstrom
- WATER-FRIENDLY: Water-resistant, not waterproof.
- FOOTBED: Memory foam cushioning with arch support
- OUTSOLE/UPPER: Leather upper and lining/rubber sole
- FIT: TTS
- PRICE: $139
- VIBE: Quietly luxe (like weekending in Big Sur)
Pros: Pretty & comfy. The arch support bump was too much for my flat feet – but would be perfect for those who need it! Comes in a bunch of gorgeous colors too.
Cons: Too much arch for flatter feet + on the expensive side. I also thought they made my feet look wide or something? Like, look at them in the top pic.
6. Beek Gallito Slide Sandal

Where To Buy: Nordstrom | Anthropologie | Shopbop
- WATER-FRIENDLY: Water-resistant, not waterproof. So yes.
- FOOTBED: Memory foam with arch support
- OUTSOLE/UPPER: Smooth cowhide, rubber
- FIT: TTS
- PRICE: $260
- VIBE: Amalfi Coast, even if you’re just at Whole Foods
Pros: Handcrafted leather looks luxe with everything, great, molded arch support (kind of rare for leather sandals), breaks in beautifully over time & chic enough to wear day-to-night.
Ok, these are A. an investment and B. not technically a flip flop… but wowww, do they feel fab. I included these slides because I wasn’t wowed by many flip-flops and always wanted to try them. The leather is buttery, the footbed molds almost instantly, and the minimalist shape makes everything I wear with them look better. Like, would these slides make my PJ shirt + boxers look expensive? Yes, probs.

Cons: Pricey (but feels like an investment piece), needs a liiiittle break-in period to mold to your foot + the smooth leather sole can be slightly slippery at first.
And the flip-flops I tried that didn’t make the list…
What’s going to be your go-to pair for summer 2025? I must know!!!
