There’s Nothing Easier Than A Matching Set

There’s nothing like a good matching set to help me get dressed fast while still feeling put together.

Finding easy outfit ideas for myself became a bit of a goal over the past few years, and I’ve assembled a handful of really great, general outfits to reach for when I’m in a rush. The easiest of them all, even more so than a white tee and jeans (because who knows what style of denim I’m in the mood for that day?!) is a matching knit set.

3 Matching Sets To Style Up This Cozy Season

There are a lot of cute sets out there, but these 3 have been my personal go-to’s this season:

  1. Gap’s Cashsoft Mix & Match Pieces: specifically these sweater pants and relaxed crewneck.
  2. Venice Travel Set: Frank & Eileen’s luxe upgrade to your everyday sweatpants & hoodie.
  3. Malibu Surf Set: Free People’s lightweight knit set with shorts (especially lovely for those of us in warmer climates).

Each set is well made, has that curl-up-and-nap factor, and is easily styled up for travel, school drop-off, or simply grabbing a coffee.

Gap’s Cashsoft Line: Mix & Match To Your Personal Style

The coolest part about Gap’s Cashsoft line (the cozy fabric that is arguably softer than cashmere) is you can mix and match from a ton of different styles to find your perfect set. But it’s seriously hard to choose.

I fell hard and fast for Gap’s Sweater Pants. They have a high, drawstring waist and a long inseam for the ultimate cozy factor. I can be seen wearing them underneath my favorite trench coat in the gorgeous Cashmere Brown color (yup, I own multiples), and I even showed off how they are the perfect pairing to my favorite UGG’s

It’s as if I can’t stop wearing them (uhm, because I can’t). The pants do run big, but thanks to the drawstring waist are flexible in sizing. I sized down one to a small in this black pair for the perfect fit at the waist.

There are so many good tops in the Cashsoft line, and I’ve actually tried a few of them. This Shaker Stitch Relaxed Sweater is one of my favorite shapes I’ve found in a while. It’s the right amount of boxy to look great with my fave high waisted bottoms, but with a relaxed, dropped-shoulder element that makes it feel really special.

I love these Cashsoft pieces so much that I actually own a few pieces to mix and match. Another stand out fave has to be Gap’s Big Shirt (phenomenally oversized + cozy). I can’t recommend these enough!

Frank & Eileen’s Venice Travel Set: The Most Chic I’ve Ever Felt In Sweats

I thought I had moved past the concept of wearing sweats as an intentional outfit choice (thank you 2020) until I realized it wasn’t about the sweats themselves, but the quality and shape of them.

Frank & Eileen leave no detail behind, as many of us here at TME can attest to (and frequently rave about). Their Venice Travel Set is 100% cotton and designed in such a way that I feel as though I’m wearing a tailored-to-me cozy set rather than the schlumpy gym sweats of my past.

From the handcut raw hems to the perfectly crafted oversized silhouette of the top, these sweats are, dare I say it, chic. This is the kind of outfit I can wear lazily around at home that I would still feel good in if having unexpected guests pop over.

The only possible downside here is the length of the pants. I’m 5’9” with long legs and these pants are significantly cropped on me (nothing a slouch sock can’t make cozier, but I’ve worn the pants low rise/slouchier, too, and they look great). Until Frank & Eileen makes longer inseams (please, ooh, please!) I wouldn’t recommend this set for anyone taller than me.

Free People’s Malibu Surf Set: When You Want To Feel Cozy In A Warmer Winter Climate

Free People’s Malibu Surf Set is one I’ve actually owned for many years. It was a comfortable, easy set to throw on when living in Michigan, but this set was made for climates with a warm fall and winter.

The knit is soft and very lightweight, with the perfect flowy drape that wraps around you as you move.

True to Free People’s signature style, the top is oversized with long arms, and while the shorts lay loose, they do have a fitted waistband. Since I’m wider through my middle I sized up for a comfier short.

This style of shorts makes the set incredibly easy to tuck, while also being minimal enough to wear with the top pulled out over the bottoms without creating any weird bumps (as you often see with a drawstring waist).

This set is my go-to when I’m wanting to feel cozy on a warm day in San Diego, and it’s just as perfect around the house as it is for a walk along the beach.
