We were at the mall the other day visiting the American Girl Store (which, as far as Lana knows, is the American Girl Museum because that is one helluva slippery slope…) and the rainbow-hued windows at J. Crew were enough to draw us inside. As much as I LOVE fashion, I’ve been stuck in the kitchen for a while, so you’ll have to bear with me on the quality of these dressing room selfies — and excuse the presence of my favorite tiny human. Also, can we talk about how Laura gets these brilliant, naturally-lit fitting rooms in Portland and I’m over here in Palo Alto trying on clothes in what basically amounts to a shadowy janitor’s closet? Give a girl a break…

Anyway…these are some of my faves from the fitting room floor. And starting today, everything is 40% off with code SHOP40. Woohoo!
You can tell almost nothing from this photo (sorry!), but this shirt is everything I want in a summer t-shirt. Usually horizontal stripes can be kinda, uh, horizontal, but something about the longer sleeve makes this way more flattering than I expected — and those same sleeves make it feel slightly dressier. I’d pair it with this skirt and funky leopard boots (these are SO comfy, by the way) to add some edge. And the jeans pictured here are super fun if you’re looking for a basic not-too-flared crop. I’m 5′ 5 1/2″ and the Regular hit just right. I know the exposed button fly thing can be kinda polarizing, but I’m a fan.
The Chambray Jumpsuit
If it weren’t for how much I freaking hate trying to manage jumpsuits in the bathroom, I would wear them every day. I actually expected to have to size up in this to avoid an up-the-butt situation, but it was pretty dang comfy in my typical size, and I think since the top is an actual, functioning wrap, it’d accommodate a wide range of busts. (For reference, I’m pretty middle-of-the-road in that department.) I also paired the jumpsuit with this denim jacket (the same one paired with the outfit below), and this open-front cardigan, which is available in a handful of sweet colors, but the Frosty Olive would be particularly at home among the rest of my wardrobe.
You guys — this skirt. I am Oprah’s Favorite Things obsessed. YOU get a rainbow skirt!! and YOU get a rainbow skirt!! and YOU get a rain.bow.freaking.skirt!!!!! I’m not into super-girly fashion unless there’s a retro vibe involved, but this skirt was just so totally fun and wearable and would only be made better with a graphic tee (this is one of my current faves), marshmallowy gold slides and a summery straw crossbody. I posted this exact pic to my Instagram a few days ago, and the skirt definitely stole the show. I’m wearing an XS in the picture, but I think I would size up for a little more flattering fit in the tummy area.
Thanks to my shopping companion, I didn’t get to snap pics of everything I (we) tried on, so here’s the balance of what I’m loving.
This was SO cute, you guys, and fit TTS. Tucked into high-rise jeans — or with denim cutoffs if you actually have summer where you live.
Another pair of exposed button-fly crops. Love the retro styling of the front patch pockets.
In case you were wondering, my alter-ego wears this dress and rides a Vespa and is perpetually toting a market bag with a baguette. (The me me would wear this with Adidas and a satin bomber.)
In high school I had this fashion rule that “if it doesn’t go with anything, it goes with everything.” Enter leopard, my favorite neutral.
Featuring those same longer sleeves for a flattering fit, even for something with so much
horizontal going on.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who struggles in the fitting room with a little one? I mean, clearly she’s right at home (quite the little window shopper, actually), but thank goodness for online shopping, ya know? Oy.
