Any longtime readers likely understand just how freaking excited I am to be launching a special collection with Amy Voloshin. Voloshin, her namesake label, has quickly become the cornerstone of my summer wardrobe — especially when we travel. Designed in Philadelphia, made by skilled artisans in India — often using organic fabrics — not only are her pieces beautiful, but they all have that ‘something special meets practical’ vibe we endlessly search for over here at The Mom Edit. (And yes — our collection is organic, machine washable and dryer-friendly.)
But before I get too far into it, there’s one thing you’ve gotta know: we made a really small batch.
Why? Well…our first-ever collection, nerves, blah blah blah — the usual reasons, I suppose. Which means…if anything strikes your fancy, I strongly suggest you pre-order to make sure you get the size you want. These pieces are only available as part of a very limited run. Pieces are scheduled to ship out on June 24th.
If you aren’t yet familiar with Voloshin, I’ve been lucky enough over the last few years to get little peeks into Amy’s creative process (check out our interview with her, here — the block printing discussion around minute 4:40 is especially cool), so I was beyond thrilled when we started talking about a collaboration.
Since I’m such a giant Voloshin fan already, it made sense to start with one of my all-time favorites: Voloshin’s Talita Dress. For this special collaboration, we shortened the length a bit (me and my short hemlines ha!), added a pair of breezy shorts, pull-on pants (for the shorts-haters) and two perfect tops. The tops are based on two well-worn tops in my closet — the ones I always seem to pack when we travel (with a few tweaks, of course to make them even better) — and the whole collection is available in both navy and a gorgeous neutral stripe.
My favorite part of this process? The pattern I’m nothing if not stripe-obsessed and the temptation of seeing what Amy could do with a stripe (hand drawn!!) was too much to pass up. We played around with all sorts of color options….but were ultimately blown away by the chic neutral stripe. It’s wearable and beautiful yet so unexpected and interesting (especially when worn as a set) and we’ve all been DYING for this collection to drop. Because, fundamentally, this is literally the collection I’ve been dreaming of.
And just for fun….since this collection was designed with love in the city of brotherly love….we named each piece after one of our favorite spots in Philly.
The VOLOSHIN X THE MOM EDIT COLLECTION
All items are available for pre-order now, in our newly launched shop! As mentioned earlier, Voloshin will ship out all pre-orders as soon as they’re ready — the current ship date is June 24th. (All shipping and returns will be handled by Voloshin, since they’re already so good at this stuff. Free shipping on anything over $150, everything else is a flat shipping fee of $6.)
The Carina Ruffle Flounce Dress
Named after Trattoria Carina (one of our fav spots to eat outside), the Carina Ruffle Flounce Dress is a TME take on a much-beloved Voloshin classic. Available in both the breezy stripe and the insanely soft navy cloud fabric, this dress is dead easy to dress up or down. (And the sizing is such that it’s a pretty forgiving piece even if it’s a bit big or small – just order your normal size and you should be fine.)
Like all pieces in the collection, it’s made from 100% organic cotton gauze, and is machine-washable (dry on low heat).
Also, please notice the tassels. I was especially excited about those.
The Kate Trapeze Top
Named after my friend Kate Jacoby — THE reason I drink and eat so. many. desserts. at Vedge (we have literally NEVER left without dessert because Kate is such a freaking genius) — the Kate Trapeze Top is flirty, fun, and basically the best thing ever to wear with denim cut-offs. Or jeans. Or trousers. Or….the matching pants. I DIE.
The Morgan Fly-Away Top
Since Morgan’s Pier was one of THE first places my husband and I fell in love with when we first moved to Philly….I was thrilled to include them in this collection. The Morgan Fly-Away Top has been cut to look like a simple, boyish tee from the front (but a little more lux)…and then you see the back: ALL DRAMA.
The Lutécia Drawstring Shorts
The Lutécia Drawstring Shorts are named after my Sunday morning happy place — a super-authentic french cafe named Cafe Lutécia. These little shorts are the type of thing I tend to run around in all summer —especially at the shore. They look especially chic as a matching set. My only word of caution is that these shorts run small I’m wearing an XS in these photos, but will likely go up a size when the actual pieces come in. Depending on your body type, going up two sizes from the norm might be smart.
The Grace Drawstring Beach Pants
The Grace Drawstring Beach Pants are going to replace my wear-all-day sweatpants this summer. Bonus that they dress up so effortlessly, too. They’re named after Grace Tavern, which seems appropriate since I’ve frequented Grace in both sweatpants & sneakers….AND a formal gown. I mean….burgers are burgers, man, and Grace has some good ones.
These pants also run really small — so size up one size from your norm. Also….the inseam miiiiight be too short for some of you. If you are petite, congratulations!! Say hello to your new pants!! If you are taller…stay tuned. Once the full batch comes in, we’re going to make tall, willowy Gwen try on a few sizes and see how they look cropped.
So. To recap: Pre-orders are live in The Mom Edit’s Shop, now. Size up in the pants and shorts. Tops and dress are true to size (and have forgiving cuts). Everything ships out June 24th, and when they’re gone….they’re GONE. Everything is 100% organic cotton gauze, machine washable, and can be dried on low.
Gang, thanks so much for your support. Working with a local designer (especially one as talented as Amy Voloshin) has been such a dream, and we’ve learned so freaking much in the process. I really hope you love these pieces as much as we do.
