Remember that time a week ago when I said I was most excited for dresses at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale? Well, I grabbed a ton for my first round of dressing room selfies; I mean, they were literally the first things I grabbed. But, that meant, they all ended up at the bottom of the pile; I had no energy to try them on after a full day in the dressing rooms. So, here I am, trying on dresses, jumpsuits, and a few skirts a week later. Best part: They’re all in stock, so let’s do this!
Before we start, here are all my style stats:
- Typical clothing size: 10/M/L
- Typical shoe size: 9
- Height and Body Shape: About 5′ 3″ and curvy
OK, let’s get to it, happy shopping! Ask me any questions in the comments or on Instagram @BeingTiarra.
My 6 Fav Dresses & Skirts In The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
When I saw this dress in the catalog, I couldn’t tell if it was just a dress, or if it was a sleeveless dress with a blouse underneath. I think that’s exactly what I love about this dress. It has a lot going on, but definitely in a good way. The mix of prints is gorgeous and adds so much dimension to the dress. I love the midi length; it looks great with the leopard pumps and the pointy-toe flats from my first post and these tall shaft boots would all work, too. The dress runs TTS.
Lemme just say I was not expecting this dress to be as stunning as it was! I grabbed tons of floral dresses to show alternatives to the sold-out rust floral dress from my first post and this one was by far my fave. It accentuated my waist, but in a way that didn’t make my hips/bum look disproportionate. The neckline is flattering; not too deep, but certainly more appropriate for a night out than my office. I needed a large in this one, but only the medium was stocked; it’s TTS. The teddy sweater is also TTS and so fun! I love how it makes the dress a little more casual.
A sweater dress is a fall staple for me and this one is amazing. I’m slightly obsessed with the fit: It’s the perfect blend of a bodycon dress and shift dress. Even the details like the side slit (no wiggle walking here!) and the mid-length sleeve (hello, easier layering under blazers) make this dress something I can see in heavy rotation this fall. The description says to size down; the medium was indicated for my typical size 10, and it fits perfectly. The coat is perfectly oversized and such a great color. It’s a steal at under $100!
I tend to think “itchy” when I think of wool, which, OK, I know that’s not always the case; it certainly wasn’t here! This dress was so soft, I never would’ve guessed it was a wool/cotton blend. It has muted herringbone stripes, which I love for fall. Online, the model has it styled with crisp white sneakers and it looks just as good as with my boots; I know the leopard pumps would work, too. I loving having pieces that are versatile like that. I’d love to try it layered under this plaid blazer. If you’re one who never knows what outerwear to style your dresses with, a trench coat is a pretty solid choice. This one has a removable hood! It’s TTS, I’m wearing a medium.
Listen, don’t sleep on the bodycon dress for work. As long as you go for a midi length (or longer), and darker colors and/or prints, you can throw literally any blazer, jacket, kimono, etc., over and it and be all set! I mean, how fun is the pattern? It will be great for if you’re prone to falling into a seasonal color slump like I usually do. It’s TTS, I’m wearing a medium.
This miniskirt was only stocked in 29, so I was nervous, but the fit was great. I’m sure my usual 30 would work, too. It has just enough stretch, so it forms to my curves, instead of moving with every step, like more rigid skirts do. The raw hem keeps it casual. I styled with my new fav chunky sweater for balance. If chunky sweaters aren’t your thing, try this fully-stocked striped ribbed sweater!
More #NSale Dresses & Skirts I Like
I’m a sucker for a bias cut skirt, but this one was too big (my size wasn’t stocked) and the sweater felt a smidge short. I do want to try the skirt in my size, maybe with the turtleneck sweater in ivory
You guessed it, another fit issue. I’m pretty sure if this was stocked in my size 10, I would’ve purchased it. I like how the crossing bands in the front accentuate my curves. The overall fit was incredible. The faux fur jacket is so cozy and cute. It’s not as fluffy/bulky as others I’ve tried; I really like that. It’s TTS, I’m wearing a M.
The fit of this dress was great…bodycon with some side ruching and midi length. I just didn’t care for the print even though I love purple and floral prints. I think the solid brown blazer would’ve pulled the look together.
10. Floral Midi Wrap Dress
I wish this dress were a little shorter. Really, that’s about it. Otherwise, I loved the print and the fit. I love when I find a few pieces in the sale that I don’t have to wait until the fall to wear.
I couldn’t put my finger on what was off about this jumpsuit. First I hated it, then I loved it. The jersey material is so flowy and easy to wear. The back is cut in a V which is really flattering. IDK, maybe I just need a higher heel and a few inches off the hem.
I mean, 5’3′ isn’t THAT short, is it? This jumpsuit needs quite a bit of hemming, but otherwise, I loved the style and fit. The color is gorgeous for fall!
