In the short span of time since the spring equinox, our little corner of the world has seen temps in the 30’s and the 90’s, thunderstorms, a few spotty tornado watches, and even a warning to bring in any plants that were eagerly started outdoors (you know, ‘cuz overnight frosts). I actually love it.
I even love dressing for this, which is new. I haven’t loved springtime for most of my adult life, but something has changed this year. The idea that I can bring out my cotton sweaters and pair them with shorts, or keep the long pants but slip on a pair of open-toed shoes (finally!) – it all feels so…refreshing.

A possible reason for my change of attitude? A few amazing wardrobe staples I’ve found to wear on repeat, both perfect for this wild transitional weather. One is a relaxed, boyfriend sweater in a perfect springy hue, the other an adorable and preppy cropped sweater that’s as good on top of jeans as it is wrapped around your shoulders.

My Favorite Cotton Sweaters For Spring: 2 Transitional Outfits To Wear Now
Spring sweaters are a must for me. They’re wonderful when the weather is still cool, but they become a lifesaver on those warmer days when everyone kicks on the AC indoors (like, woah, slow down everyone).

I found both of these sweaters from Quince, arguably my most favorite brand to shop at for sweaters. The Boyfriend Crew Sweater and Cropped Cotton Polo Sweater are both made with 100% organic cotton, making them ideal for these warming months.
Outfit 1: Cropped Polo Sweater + Easy, Rolled Jeans & Open Toed Shoes
Most of the sweaters I’ve purchased from Quince are pretty oversized, but this 100% Organic Cropped Cotton Polo Sweater was a fun change-up. At 5’10”, this sweater sits right at the top of my jeans. The body is more fitted, as far as chunkier cotton sweaters go, but the sleeves are still perfectly long (I actually have the cuffs rolled!).

I’ve been a longtime lover of nautical stripes, but I love how this sweater takes it a step more modern with the preppy collar. This style feels true to my favorite warm weather go-to looks while being fresh and updated in the actual fit and details.

Gap’s barrel jeans have become a mainstay for me. I tucked this distressed pair away for colder weather and have now been ecstatic to pull them back out as the weather warms up. Rolling up the bottom hem of a barrel jean is such a chic way to showcase your shoe choice, too.

For me, I’m still excited to rock a minimal flop flop, especially when a sweater such as this has a bit more interest and texture to balance out such a slim shoe.
Outfit 2: Relaxed Boyfriend Sweater + Linen Shorts & Loafers
Truthfully, I thought the word “boyfriend” in this 100% Organic Cotton Boyfriend Crew Sweater would mean the sweater would run a little bit larger than it actually does, but it’s actually a very easy, relaxed fit instead of anything dramatically oversized.

I think my favorite part of this sweater is the interesting bottom hem which curves up in front, making it a far more elevated option in comparison to other boyfriend sweaters that can simply run boxy. The ribbed detailing on the cuffs and hems is gorgeous. I also always appreciate a dropped shoulder for ultra comfort, and the sleeves are slightly longer than your average (which I adore).
This sweater is so easy to pair with your favorite shorts due to its relaxed nature. Be it longer bermuda shorts, layered with an athletic or boxer short for a day-off, or my current go-to, an eye-catching pair of linen shorts – it’s all a knock out.

I’d pick my shoes based on those short options, too. A sneaker with the comfy athletic shorts, minimal flip flops for the longer bermuda options, and with a linen short, I’m obsessed with slipping into a pair of loafers. This 100% leather loafer is shockingly under $100 and only took a few wears before they were broken in and molded to my foot!

A shorts x sweater combo is probably my most favorite outfit pairing in transitional weather – it’s the ultimate comfort formula for me!
