We only have a few short months of beautiful weather in Pennsylvania, and I want my patio to feel more like an oasis — or an escape from what I’m used to seeing in my home every day: my interior skews dark & moody. I mean, who wouldn’t love to feel like they’re on vacation in their own backyard?! My recommendation is to pick one of your favorite vacation destinations, (or maybe one you dream to visit) and design your outdoor space around this theme!
I’ve chosen six of the most inspiring destinations that would immediately make me feel like I’m on vacation somewhere with beautiful warm weather, and I think there really should be a style to fit everyone’s personality here! Now is a GREAT time to buy outdoor furniture and decor, as all things summer are going out of season, and retailers are getting ready to put out the fall/winter stuff soon (WHY!?) So it’s very rare to come across any patio furniture, rugs or accessories that AREN’T marked down at least 20% if not more by now.
So grab a cocktail (remember my favorite outdoor tumblers?), put up your feet and let’s pretend we’re off to any of these destinations anytime soon…
Vacation Patio Style: Outdoor Decorating By Destination
Amalfi Coast is my dream destination. If I could fly to one place only for the rest of my life, it would be here. I am so inspired by the blue waters, the beautiful, colorful buildings stacked up the sides of the mountain overlooking the ocean, the classic Italian vintage feel I see in a lot of the photos from the local hotels and restaurants. So my picks for the Amalfi-inspired outdoor space include a lot of bright blues and yellows, some vintage-looking umbrellas and furniture, and definitely some citrus fruit accents!
Miami Beach is my favorite place to vacation in the States. I have been there more times than I can count on two hands, and so for obvious reasons, this is one of my absolute favorite places to draw outdoor decor inspiration from! Every time I go, I stay in the Art Deco district and I’m always SO inspired by the architecture and the use of color and pattern; it’s all just so beautiful. A mix of old a new; retro and modern; black and white mixed with bright colors.
I’ve been to The Hamptons a few times, and I’ve always gotten this very clean, somewhat modern feel from all of the bars/restaurants I visited. Definitely not a lot of color, everything is primarily super-neutral and just VERY high-end looking, so my picks for this outdoor inspiration are just that!
Whenever I think of New England, I think of red, white and blue, and for some odd reason, lobster rolls! So I felt it was very fitting to go with the classic RW&B color scheme, and incorporate a lot of the nautical-themed items for the Newport inspiration. Anything decorated with anchors, boats, lobsters or crabs seems pretty suitable to me! And a classic nautical navy and white stripe somewhere is a MUST!

Destination-Inspired Outdoor Decor: West Palm Beach
When I think of West Palm Beach, I think of retro, vintage Florida. A lot of pink and green and white, kind of Lilly Pulitzer-esque patterns, with lots of palm trees and flamingos! So that’s what inspired my picks for The West Palm Beach patio inspiration board!
Palm Springs is a place I’ve never visited, but am DYING to get to. Because it’s in the middle of the desert in California, these picks are really meant to resonate with that desert vibe. Lots of warm oranges and reds, some fun geometric patterns, and warm wood accents.
Great idea! I like it. My only minor difference in opinion is that Palm Springs isn’t really about southwestern style. It’s very retro/old Hollywood glamour.
You’re right! But since I already did that for West Palm Beach I was trying to switch it up a bit! It’s probably more of a Sedona feel but I was going for more of a vacation destination in the desert. But you are definitely correct about it having more of an older retro hollywood feel!
Brilliant collections! My favorite summer destination is… well, where I live. I’m super-lucky to call Colorado home. It’d be interesting to see your take on Alpine (or Alpine-American 🙂 mountain style!

Lovin’ this idea! I’m a Montauk girl, with the Palm Springs vibe as a close second. LOVE that Anthro bistro chair!
Girl, SAME!!!
That could be a fun one! Colorado is a beautiful state and one I wish to visit some day soon!
