It’s no secret that one of TME’s all-time favorite handbags is Rebecca Minkoff’s Julian Backpack. Anytime there’s a sale, we’re sure to make a big deal about it. Earlier this month, the light grey colored  ‘putty’ option was included in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale selection and we received a ton of reader questions about color.  In short, do light colored bags work beyond Spring and Summer?  (And can we make them work with our all-black winter wardrobes?)

The short answer is HECK YES! As Shana pointed out in her epic Packing List for a Year Long Road Trip post, a light, neutral-colored bag is the best option if you’re looking for a bag to get you through all four seasons.  It is far more versatile in Spring and Summer than a black bag, and with a few thoughtful tweaks, can seamlessly fit into your Fall and Winter wardrobes.

Because this is one of those buy-now situations (retailers stop stocking white bags past Labor Day), and because white bags often go on sale after Labor Day, we wanted to highlight a few ways to rock a white bag this winter.

The key?  Add in 2-3 lighter elements to keep the look cohesive.  Lighter footwear, a light-wash gray jean, a scarf, or even lighter stripes all help pull the look together….even when paired with a black puffer.
