Weekend 7.6

We got back from Oregon this week, where morning temps had ranged from 43 degrees(!!) to the upper 50’s…and are now back in Philly, swimming through the heat and humidity. Our poor puppy can barely take a step outside before she sits down, refusing to go any further.

Of course, with the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starting next week, my head is ping-ponging between trying to plan/pack for our upcoming summer trip and…fall. Regardless of how you feel about the actual pieces in the NSale, I promise that covering it is tons of fun.

Linzi has been joking for years that this NSale period is basically our version of a fantasy football draft, and YES – that’s it exactly. We spend so much time pouring over the pieces, the trends, what we think WILL stick for fall, and the whole Philly team ends up working – oof – a couple of 20 hour days, trying to get the best content out as soon as we possibly can.

But there’s snacks and laughs and nonsense, and I find myself looking forward to the camaraderie and the chance for some intense, creative, problem-solving. Jeni has started referring to those first few NSale days as Summer Camp, and it fits: we all do feel like bunkmates for a couple of days.

Anyway, I’m getting excited. But fingers crossed that our A/C doesn’t go out! It has happened before during the NSale and was…rough. [cue the sound of everyone in the office groaning aloud as they read this, haha]

ps. If interested, we have special NSale newsletters that go out nightly during that first week of the sale. That’s where we’ll send early looks at our upcoming articles & outfits, and other behind-the-scenes stuff. Just be sure to check “Nordstrom Anniversary Sale” when signing up for our newsletter (or update your preferences if you’re already a subscriber).

Coolest fall sneaks. Oh gosh – these On sneakers in ‘Quartz/Pearl’ made me gasp out loud. It’s the pops of oxblood and mint green – set in a light shoe – that did me in. These are exactly the kinds of running shoes that also look cool with real clothes, too.

Drawstring deets. I’m a sucker for jeans with a drawstring waist – I have and love this pair from Reformation. However, if you’d prefer a pair that’s a love child of my Ref jeans + rag&bone’s featherweight denim…this FRAME pair looks freaking amazing, especially for summer. I much prefer the dark wash (it’s not actually dark, just a perfect blue-jean-blue).

Oh, help. My favorite Levi’s came out with a pinstriped version and it’s OMG SO GOOD. Love it with ballet flats & white tees for fall, or eyelet tanks and strappy sandals now.

Thank you, katladyyyy. I’ve been looking at all of those cute FP sets for eons, but it wasn’t until I saw the review on this one that I pulled the trigger: “NO TIGHT WAISTBAND!!!!” Haha yes solidarity for the 40-somethings, sister. (I’m also eyeing up this striped set in ‘harvest moon’ but it’s probably both too big (top) AND too small (waistband). Has anyone tried it??)

Cute, quirky & under $25. This straw summer bag looks like…lemons, of all things, and I really like it. A fun statement piece, for sure.

‘Should’ve known. I’ve been trying to find a bag to bring to Greece that vibes like my Pot de Miel bag, but is squishable and indestructible in a suitcase. I was really disappointed in J.Crew’s hand-knotted rope tote (holes were too big, weird shape overall, felt strange in my hand) and while their new square crochet bag looks better, it’s a little too precious. And then I remembered: Naghedi. Squishable, indestructible, and chic without being precious. And the small tote does have a similar vibe to my Pot de Miel. I’m torn between ‘cashmere’ and ‘camel’.

Party pants. ShopBURU just dropped the most epic party outfit: these stunning pants styled with this eyelash top. I seriously cannot stop thinking about it, I want, I want. It’s so fresh and unique and fun and flirty…it’s perfection (and a good example of why shopping small pays off).

Speaking of small businesses…if you missed our ocean-friendly jewelry collab with Raising Surfers, it’s definitely worth checking out. And don’t forget to use code MOMEDIT10 for 10% off, if interested. I’m still reeling by how freaking old Raines looks in the photos, sob!

July 4th Sales are bananas, and still going strong. Here’s a short list of the ones that got me:

AthletaMy favorite workout top of all time is marked down to $24, plus take an additional 30% off with code SHOPFIRST. I’m going to snag another, as well as these bike shorts (with stash pocket) for running this summer. I’m also still debating these pants. I tried them on last November, but the lighter color didn’t make sense when I was about to leave for Vermont for the winter. Still…they look seriously cool on (especially with sandals). Hmmmm.

J.CrewTheir sale is wild right now, but beware of the ‘FINAL SALE’ pieces – there’s a ton. That button-front linen dress I have and love (in red) is on sale in the white or in denim (neither are final sale)…and while this lemon-print top is final sale, the silhouette is so forgiving it’s probably a safe bet.

Kule – their summer sale is up to 40% off and is fantastic. Stock goes pretty quickly (they only do this a couple of times a year), but I can personally recommend this dress (I like the green/white stripe – but size up), these camis (again, size up), or this tank top (yup – size up).

Mantra Mugs – Ahhh my favorites!! Black-owned business Mantra Mugs makes HUGE mugs that I love using for tea, especially. I’m collecting a little set of custom-made ones, all with inside jokes. Take 20% off sitewide with code SUMMERLOVE.

Naadam – If you were disappointed by the sweaters in the NSale Preview, get your butt over to Naadam. They currently have 40% off right now, and there some seriously exciting pieces. I’m heading straight for this cotton sweater (omg that neckline, that slouch), this asymmetrical cashmere layering sweater (tuck it into a pair of loose denim) and this lightweight & drapey cashmere sweater (I’m torn between the gray and the light blue).

Nordstrom – Tons of good stuff marked down, but if you’ve been paying attention these last few weeks, not much is new. The only things I want to point out are ONE: these Weitzman ballet flats – they’re the same style as the ones in the NSale, but a soft gold instead of nude. And the sale price is MUCH lower than NSale version. TWO: These hiking Vejas are a good (and seriously cute) alternative to big ‘ol hiking boots and THREE: I don’t always like black wedges (too boring, too heavy) but these Vince wedges have some cool details – contrast trim, tortoiseshell detail – that make a huge difference.

Saks – Good grief! Saks just added a ton of stuff to their designer sale and, ok Saks WINS THE 4th of JULY SALES. First up, if you were hoping to score that MaxMara wool coat in the NSale, Saks has basically the same one in black or ivory, on sale for less. Second, my new favorite Ref dress (knit, stretchy, comfy – see it on me, here) is also on sale. Third, if money is no object, go for this seriously cool Proenza Schouler poplin dress. Fourth, if you love a little white dress as much as I do, I’m adding this mini dress to my cart (I also love this white maxi, too, and it’s under $140). Fifth, this Varley ribbed jacket is now around $100, and is the kind of piece that looks really good on.

Enjoy your weekend!
