“Mom?” Pax asked. “Will I be forty-one tomowoh?”
Um. Let’s hope not.
Pax is very big on being big right now. He’s approaching it with equal parts excitement (‘Will I be bigger than YOU, Mom??’), trepidation (“Mom, I never want to live without you!”) and resentment (“WHY WAS RAINES WIF YOU FIRST????? DATS NOT FAIR!!”) which is all very understandable, really. Not a bad summary of life in general. Needless to say, trying to explain to a five-year-old why we *chose* to have his brother first (his words), is challenging at the best of times but completely unreasonable before coffee.
Outfit Details
tank: Free People tank (wearing an xs for reference – comes in a ton of colors, but I like how grecian goddess the white is….)
shirt: Topshop
bra: Free People (unless you’ve had a mastectomy/reconstruction or you have magic, 22-year-old-no-kids-perfect boobs, this bra is an indoor bra. For everyone else, this top can be layered over any pretty bra, or even a cami. I’ve also worn it with this bra – pictures here.)
sweatpants: Free People Kyoto Leggings (wearing an XS for reference)
On Pax: Game Over Tee, Mini Boden Long Shorts
I can set my watch by my kids’ behavior. If we’re still inside at 10AM on any given weekend…trouble. And the good brunch places are always packed by 10:30, anyway. But some mornings we’re just moving slow. And this was one of them. I tried to talk them into a bowl of #sadoatmeal, but really that only flies on weekdays, and this was Sunday Funday! (Yes, the children of bloggers know this phrase.)
In any case, when brunch-panic hits, we often find ourselves heading to Jezebel’s (it used to be called Gavin’s). Not only is the food amazing, but it’s portable – and located right across the street from Taney playround. [fist pump]
If you go, you must quiche. Especially the corn quiche. (It’s magic. I promise.)

leather jacket: old, Iro – try my latest Iro obsession, if you are so inclined (size up – I’m in a 38). Otherwise, this Topshop faux leather jacket is very similar, this real leather one has similar tough-girl styling (minus the belt), and Topshop’s real leather jacket has those quilted sleeves Scotti is dying over.
bra: Free People (unless you’ve had a mastectomy/reconstruction or you have magic, 22-year-old-no-kids-perfect boobs, this bra is an indoor bra. For everyone else, this top can be layered over any pretty bra, or even a cami. I’ve also worn it with this bra – pictures here.)
sweatpants: Free People Kyoto Leggings (wearing an XS for reference)
shoes: Free People Espadrilles (I found these to be super comfortable, but one of my good friends did not. However, she’s a daily Dansko wearer and can’t be trusted, haha. But get a darker color.)
On Pax: Game Over Tee, Mini Boden Long Shorts
on Raines: Respect Your Mother Tee (haha)
I’m loving Free People’s loungewear (and athletic wear, actually – like these). The sweatpants I’m wearing are technically “leggings” (which might explain the shockingly good bum – no bagginess), but they feel so much more like a really great pair of skinny sweatpants. Hence, the moniker ‘outdoor sweatpants’.
This has been my weekend uniform of late: outdoor sweats, cute flats (although I’d recommend getting a darker color – this was not a well thought-out choice….), comfy top and leather jacket. Perfect for the insane mood swings of this Philadelphia spring.

Hope you are looking forward to a warm Spring weekend with plenty of cuddles (and coffee). Here’s to outdoor sweatpants.
xo!

A huge thank-you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post! As always, all thoughts, opinions, and product choices are my own (and these sweatpants will have to be torn from my cold, dead hands). And readers, thank you for your continued support. It doesn’t go unnoticed, and is so very much appreciated. xo!
Iro jacket is my fave, but definitely runs small. For affordable, fabulous leather jackets, All Saints can’t be beat. Just sayin’. Also, I buy my boys the “respect your mother” tee every year from Nordstrom. Super soft and love the message (even if it’s really meant for the earth ;)).
I love when you write in kid voice. I too have a 5 year old who speaks just like that. 🙂
IRO’s Ashville <3 Worth every single one of the (many) pennies I spent on it.
Those leggings are seriously adorable. And that jacket is to DIE. I had a ton of luck on theoutnet.com for leather jackets at a lower price. I got a gorgeous Micheal Kors moto that looks just like an IRO and a Muubaa jacket which is so soft and stretchy, I cannot believe I only paid $250! Just an FYI!

Shana, you never ever cease to amaze! A sack would look sensational on you! I am not kidding. You are the epitome of effortless chic and a stylish mom to envy. Gosh, I’ll just say it one more time: you give me such style inspiration!
Have a great weekend!
Love, Ann
Shana, you often post about amazing places to go to in Philly, as if they’re around the corner from you, but you live out in the “suburbs” too. Driving in Philly always strikes me as a nightmare. Do you have a great place to park and then walk? Septa family pass? (that’ll rack up the cost of brunch!) … What’s your secret?
I believe Shana moved from the near ‘burbs to South Street bridge area…that’s why everything is in waking distance. We lived in the city for 15 years and moved to the near burbs. Luckily, our kids are very young (9 mos and 4 y.o.), wake up at the ass crack of dawn and our commute in is about 25 minutes. We no longer do brunch places because they open too late 🙂 We generally stick with places outside of Center City (Fishtown, NoLibs, West Philly, South Philly) where free street parking is easier, especially early on the weekends. For random weekend Center City outings, we punt and throw the car in a $10 garage and hike a bit. We also pray to the street parking gods a bunch and sometimes luck out 🙂
Thanks!
IMPORTANT: I need to know how you did your hair for this shoot. It’s gorgeous!
Pants are cute, kids cuter, but the kitchen! Double-oven deets? Flooring too?
Is your kitchen backsplash realy brick or tile that looks like brick? Love the aesthetic.
FYI for anyone looking at the Free People tank — you can’t tell in Shana’s pics but in person, it’s basically a crop top in front. I was really surprised to try it on and my belly button showed (I’m 5’1″!). Still a gorgeous tank but you’ll want to layer something over or under it.
