Light wash jeans have been in style for a few seasons now and (thankfully!) aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. But one of the ways to make them feel fresh and on-trend for 2024 is to pair them with the chicest of all colors…black on black on black.
Black will always be the new black–in my closet at least. I’ve been trying to expand the use of color in my wardrobe and I think I’ve been doing a pretty good job, to be honest. I mean, there’s definitely something to be said for dopamine dressing and the bright pink Barbiecore trends that have taken over recently. Those styles bring a little levity and fun to fashion…but, at the end of the day, nothing can ever compete with black when it comes to sophistication and chicness. Black is just always where it’s at.
Updating Light Wash Jeans: Just Add Black
Black instantly elevates any outfit, and it’s the perfect color to balance the more casual vibe of the jeans – especially baggier or more destroyed pairs like these boyfriend jeans from Good American. The contrast of the light and dark adds a modern edge and instantly updates the look, while the different textures of the black pieces keep things interesting.
Perfect Fit For Curves: These Light Wash Boyfriend Jeans
These light wash jeans, like so many of Good American’s styles, are perfect for curvier bodies. There’s no gap in the waistband, they fit over the booty, and there’s a hint of stretch to accomodate curves. I actually tried these in both a 28 (my typical size) and a 27. They both could have worked, but I liked the slightly tighter fit of the waist in the 27s. (I typically size down when the rise is high–this one is 12 inches in front and 14 in the back…another reason they fit so well on curves.)
I especially love that funky, destroyed hemline, and the fact that the 26.5″ inseam is perfect for my 5’4″ frame. It’s really hard to find a cool hemline that is short enough without having to alter. (FYI, these are another favorite if you’re looking for a shorter inseam with an interesting hem…30% off too!)
Keep It Interesting With Textures Like Satin
I’ve been wearing another oversized bomber jacket from Open Edit on repeat for months now, so when I saw this satin bomber in black I snagged it immediately. The texture of it is so good — it almost looks like (faux) leather, but the satin is super soft and feels more like a comfy sweatshirt than a stiff moto. I love the shine paired with the ribbed knit of the sweater. (I also didn’t see that there are matching cargo pants! I’m going to need to try those with the bomber in the tan oxford color…LOVE. 😍)
This Black Sweater With Chic Details For Day-To-Night
And my favorite thing about this sweater? The cut-out shoulders! I love that interesting little detail that elevates the entire outfit–super easy for a day-to-night transition. I sized down to an xxs here in order to get more of a cropped length to pair with high-waisted jeans but I’m loving the oversized look on the models. It also comes in ivory, so I might try that one in a small to get that look as well. (Also…the ivory would look awesome with the bomber in tan oxford!)
A Tote Bag For Everything From Errands To Travel
And finally–this bag. You guys, I’ve been lusting after it for awhile now. I’ve been using the medium size leather tote on–practically–a daily basis since I got it a year ago and LOVE it. I wanted something just a bit bigger that I could use for everything from my laptop to groceries to library books for the kids. This is perfect. I can use it as an overnight bag and, unlike the leather one, it folds flat for travel, and it’s about half the price (even though it’s larger).
I love the crisp black and white combo (obviously), but it also comes in a more neutral beige with white lettering and a funky green (aka chlorophyll) that caught my eye in the store. That one would be so fun for spring and summer!
Cheers to wearing what you love!
