Winter Florals And Leather Jackets (The Anti-Valentine Valentine’s Day Outfit)

I’m totally feeling winter florals right now.  They’re kinda dark, edgy…..the type of print that looks perfect with smudgy black eyeliner and leather.  I asked my very talented friend Jessbobess to come up with a little something to inspire us…..

Whoa.  Jess, those are some seriously inspiring designs.

In that vein, I tried to come up with a little something-something.  Don’t get excited – it’s not nearly as good as what Jess came up with (but a dramatic skirt is fun nonetheless).

wearing

leather jacket: All Saints Assembly Leather Jacket (I’m wearing a size 0) – I ended up returning this jacket because I like my Iro leather jacket better. BUT – there are a few things I love about this All Saints jacket:  the detailing on the sleeve, and the fact that this jacket has a cool piece that zips off the bottom – one can wear it cropped (as above) or regular length.  All Saints in general has a pretty sweet leather jacket selection.

winter floral top: long gone, but it turns out there’s a matching bomber jacket…WHA???? *mind blown*

turtleneck: J.Crew Tissue Turtleneck (now on sale!!)

skirt: old Ann Taylor…but Chicwish has a soft pink chiffon maxi skirt (or a ton of other colors)

scarf, hat: old TMRDNL cowl c/o, Sole Society hat c/o, both sold out…loving this Wyatt Chunky Knit Infinity Scarf at Bluefly and this black Pom-Pom knit hat

boots, tights, bag: Marc Jacobs booties, Plush tights, Sondra Roberts Furry Monster Feather Clutch (HA!  That’s a perfect name.)

Do you often go out for Valentine’s Day?  We….do not.  There’s so much pressure.  And when it falls on a Saturday?  Forget it.  More often than not the restaurants are crowded, the menus reduced, the service and food is rushed and – UGH.

But I do love a good print.  And in the middle of February when the winds are still biting, a print that stands up to some serious eyeliner, leather jackets and fuzzy scarves (whether you’re staying in or going out) is win in my book.  Besides, you can wear these well into Spring (and even Summer).

Winter Florals

psst!  There’s a few maternity dress picks here, too…..

Leather Jackets

If you make one purchase in preparation for Spring, make it a leather jacket.  They’re warm, totally kid-friendly (just wipe ’em off), and they look amazing over just about anything….especially winter florals (now), floaty dresses (later), and all of your Fall layers come September.  My favorites are below, but in general, I’m loving the selection at The Outnet, All Saints, and Revolve Clothing (most are on sale, so sizes are limited, but the selection is well-edited).

I’m kinda obsessed with pretty dresses + leather jackets + fuzzy hats/scarves/mittens right now.   I’ll be wearing this combo on our next date night…the weekend after Valentine’s Day.  (Besides, we have plenty to keep us busy this weekend – I just bought these with this bra and WOWZA.  So comfy, yet….so hot.)

xo!

  1. Love the feminine florals with leather. I have been looking for a long sleeve pretty floral shirt. I would love to see more shirt options as I don’t get enough wear out of dresses. Any ideas?

  2. OH, MY! I am totally in love with this outfit! I adore pretty skirts, so this outfit is right up my alley. My husband and I are going on our Valentines date today. I have a midwife visit in the city (30 weeks pregnant here!), so we are going to make an afternoon/evening date of it. I have a pretty winter floral top, and a cute gray beanie, but the rest of the pieces are missing! Oh, well! I think you still inspired my outfit for today! For Valentines, we are going to have a pizza/ heart shaped caked family Valentines party, with a couple neighbor kids thrown in the mix so their parents can have a date!
