For those of you who saw our recent IG post…SURPRISE! Meet Amy, our newest Style Contributor and Mama-to-Be.
Amy actually got her start with TME years ago as one of our photographers. She’s also from Marquette (Scotti & Shana’s hometown) so though you haven’t seen her ON the blog, you’ve seen her work alllll over it. Remember this gorgeous shoot? Yep. Amy.
She and her husband are expecting their first child this November (yay!), so until then, she plans to share plenty of bump-friendly style posts and even what she’ll be packing in her hospital bag. But even so, I’ve already been eyeing up basically everything she’s had on (and you probably know I am sans baby bump) so yeah, she likes all the good stuff.
While chatting with Amy and helping her transition onto the blog, I feel like I’ve known her forever. She has such a warm and friendly vibe about her, and I know she’s so excited to join this little community of ours. So, let’s give her the biggest TME welcome and I’ll let her Q&A tell you the rest…
Q & A: All About Amy, Our Newest Style Contributor
Let’s get the basics out of the way: where you live, how many kids, etc.
Joyfully dwelling along the northern shore in Michigan with my husband and growing baby bump; we are expecting our first child this fall and couldn’t be more excited! I’ve been a full-time traveling wedding photographer for the past seven years but am slowly trying to throttle back with a tiny human on the way.
Three words to describe your personal style. Go.
Confident, Beachy (my preferred way of saying ‘comfortable’), Trend-driven
Who are your style icons? How do you integrate those tastes into your own wardrobe if at all?
Mary-Kate & Ashley; the queens of breaking the rules and wearing everything oversized. Their boldness for the bag-lady look and rocking socks with sandals as a fashion statement are just two reasons I’m always religiously paying attention to their influence. They have been my fashion icons since I was a kid asking for their entire Walmart clothing line for Christmas and birthday gifts, and the reason I often look to break any fashion rules or molds myself. But also, Princess Diana’s off-duty look is my forever mood; her ability to style bike shorts, sweatshirts and sneakers while making it look perfectly put-together was (and is) major goals.
How has your personal style changed during your pregnancy?
Through the changes of pregnancy, it hasn’t been as easy getting dressed as in the past… a bit more strategic planning and trial-and-error has certainly been involved to find the same comfort-but-cute balance.
What’s your most-worn piece? (If it’s sweatpants…we won’t tell.)
Honestly, I don’t think you can ever have too many sweatshirts — and I can never wear them on rotation enough. Hoodies, crew necks, oversized, cropped, vintage, trendy — you name it, I’ll wear it and try to style it so I don’t look too much like a college kid rolling out of bed (but then again, maybe that’s the goal). Also, hats & coats. A beanie or large brimmed hat is usually covering my mess of hair, and a well-paired coat can instantly transform a simple look.
Sometimes it’s hard to gauge height from an Instagram or blog post – SO…how tall are you?
5’9” and so thankful for the long legs.
Your top three beauty products?
What drew you to blogging and when did you start?
Honestly, I think I was just born into the generation of blogging — but it used to be all about online diaries. LiveJournal, DeadJournal, Blogger — you name it, I had one. I remember looking over my mom’s shoulder at Ree Drummond’s blog (aka: The Pioneer Woman) who was the first real example I had of someone going after Lifestyle Blogging; detailing her life in words and images for all of us to follow along and fall in love with. It was equally so strange and so captivating. From that point on many WordPress accounts were created for seasons in my life (oh, how I wish I could remember all their URL names) — but it was always just a fun creative outlet, never anything I devoted time or serious energy into. I was fortunate enough to be hired by Shana for photography a few years back, and that turned into frequent shoots for both Shana — when she comes for visits back to her homeland — as well as for posts with Scotti. To have the opportunity to now contribute to this blog myself feels like the most EPIC honor!
What does a typical day look like? How do you manage your time vs. blogging (or work)?
I’m a lover of a good plan and daily routine, setting goals and blocking out times to get everything accomplished — but I imagine this is alllll about to change. As a new mom-to-be I envision myself working around nap times and taking advantage of the access I have to grandma living a few miles away. Check-in with me (I’m always on Instagram) in a few months, though, and we’ll see how it’s really going down…
What did you dream of being when you were young?
A photographer for National Geographic… so I came kind of close by capturing all of the crazy that makes up a wedding 😉
What’s one fashion risk you love to see on others but would NEVER take yourself?
Never say never, I’ll try anything.
Amy, we can’t wait to read your posts and meet your little one!! Welcome to the team.
This one’s for the pinners…
