I had been eyeing up these wide-leg sweatpants at Athleta, but didn’t pull the trigger until I read the rave reviews from readers (thanks, guys). It took some doing to get the sizing right (turns out I’m NOT a petite in their pants), but I ended up pretty thrilled with the regular XS.
11 Comfy Outfit Ideas: Athleta Wide-Leg Sweatpants Do It All
These pants are also available in petite and tall sizes AND are made from sustainable TENCEL™. They’re soft, drapey, insanely comfortable, and, based on the fact that I’ve been wearing them almost everyday…pretty darn versatile, too.
Which is what I hope to demonstrate today. Vive la polyvalence*!!
*French for ‘long live versatility’, according to google translate.
1. Athleta Sweatpants + A Graphic Tee
I mean…per usual. Always my first move.
2. Athleta Sweatpants + A Cute, Boxy Top
I love this super-casual, effortless look. And this top is 100% linen and fabulous and also comes in white. It’s part of the Voloshin X TME collection that’s launching SOON. If you’d like to be the first to be shop, sign up for our newsletter, here.
3. Athleta Sweatpants + Stripes, Like A French Girl
All pants pretty much have to work with my St. James striped top…or their days are NUMBERED. I’ll admit that Real French Girls would likely not wear lounge pants out of the house (quelle horreur!) but, well, pandemic, so I’m going for GOOD ENOUGH. I finished the look with the world’s most comfortable ballet flats. NO JOKE.
4. Athleta Sweatpants + Stripes, Like It’s 1977
Similar to the above outfit, but not the same. And I will love this market bag until the day I die.
5. Athleta Sweatpants For The Farmer’s Market…Someday
For now, a grocery store run. But…fingers crossed.
6. Athleta Sweatpants + For #WorkingAtHome When There Are No Zoom Calls
I may or may not be wearing this right now.
7. Athleta Sweatpants + For Working At Home When I DO Have A Zoom Call
This silk top is playful…but still professional enough. I sized up for a slouchier fit.
Oddly enough, this top looks less crazy/more work-friendly on Zoom…
8. Athleta Sweatpants + For Those Insanely Bright Tops That Do Good Things For My Skin But Go With Nothing In My Closet
I thought I hated this top — the color was almost shocking — but it’s literally the best-fitting sweatshirt I’ve ever worn, and I kiiiinda love what it does for my face. Then Pax told me I looked TWENTY-FOUR. HA! Sold! But in all seriousness, I’m craving color like never before. Clearly a sign of the apocalypse.
9. Athleta Sweatpants + 1 Of Those Drapey, Oversized Tops
Typically, when you say, ‘drapey, oversized tops’ I think Free People (like this one). But my all-time favorite drapey, oversized top is Voloshin’s Ella top. It’s long enough to wear with leggings (it’s longer in the back), but half-tucks like a dream, and is insanely soft. The sleeves can easily be rolled or not. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but this is the top that everyone steals out of my closet (and it’s also the top I take on almost every vacation). I have a few printed ones (all sold out), but it’s currently available in black, which will be my next purchase, plus a pretty olive green.
10. Athleta Sweatpants + A Comfy Wrap Cardigan
I call this look the ‘Luuuke…I am your father’ look. Obviously, in this scenario, I am Luke. (Actually, Pax, when he steals this cardigan for dress-up looks exactly like Luke Skywalker.) Anyway, I do love this aptly-described ‘desk cardigan’ from MM LaFleur. It’s been perfect for throwing on to run outside, and there’s something about pairing it with wide-leg pants (instead of joggers or leggings) that feels chic.
11. Athleta Sweatpants For #StayAtHome Date Night?
Admittedly, this one’s a stretch. I mean, it’s date night, S, for God’s sake put on some real pants! Actually, this is prob where Mike would request a skirt. Which isn’t happening. So….sweatpants it is!
I even tried to do cutesy little looks to make up for the slightly bizarre pairing of heels and sweatpants. Is it working?
So that’s it! The many ways I’ve been wearing these Athleta joggers. And as the weather warms, there will probably be more cropped swingy tank tops, too.
Hang in there, Gang.
