If ever there were a time to embrace something new or different or fun, now is that time, right? I’ve admired bright colorful sneakers for a while…but now? They’re proving to be therapeutic. I’ll admit they’re not necessarily the Throw On With Everything sneaker, but I’m setting out to prove that colorful sneakers are still fairly easy to style.
PUMA Colorblock Sneakers — 8 Outfit Ideas For Colorful Tennis Shoes
I think the key for wearing…let’s call them ‘loud sneakers’ is keeping things fairly neutral otherwise. This doesn’t have to mean all gray, black, and white by any means, but for me, I like a loud piece with other elements that are quieter…grays and blacks, but also earth-tone prints that aren’t too contrasting (as you’ll see below). I’m not a matchy-matchy person in general, so I didn’t pull out any colors in the shoes themselves. That’s certainly a route to take, but not really my jam.
The PUMA sneakers I style below are SO BOUNCY and cushiony. I’ve been wearing them around the house a) for fun and b) for some extra support when I work standing up. They just make me happy. Not to mention, these lovelies are half off right now! YES! Be aware…they are men’s sizing. It’s not indicated that they are, but I tried 3 pairs and wound up going down 1.5 sizes, so yeah, just a note! They’re worth all the trial-and-error for me though because they’re so fun and comfy.
Outfit Idea #1: Colorful Sneakers + Gray & An Unexpected Neutral
Unique, brassy mustard shades are some of my favorites — and they’re pretty easy to find right now. I love how these Everlane pants provide a nice neutral, but interesting backdrop for our star-of-the-show sneakers.

Outfit Idea #2: Colorful Sneakers, Black Joggers & An Olive Green Print
I dig a dark print (low contrast, tone-on-tone) with a brighter fun shoe like this. The print is still fun and interesting, but it lets the shoes shine the most and doesn’t clash.

Outfit Idea #3: Colorful Sneakers + Black Graphic Tee & Black Jeans
Can’t go wrong with all black…but make things a little more interesting with a simple graphic tee. You could pretty much go with any band tee or black graphic tee here and make it work!

Outfit Idea #4: Colorful Sneakers With A White Tee & Camo
Camo is always an interesting yet surprisingly neutral pattern. I don’t always wear camo, but I’m really liking these pants styled with the sporty shoes.

Outfit Idea #5: Colorful Sneakers + Black Coveralls (& Quarantine Hair Probs)
Hi. What day is it? Is this ever ending? OK, well, then let’s go comfy coveralls, crazy hair and fun shoes, and call it good. I adore this and will be wearing it on repeat. Black coveralls are the easiest if you haven’t ventured into the boilersuit realm yet. This one is my favorite from sustainable brand Outerknown. LOVE. It’s the perfect mid-weight jumpsuit that I can wear just about year-round.

Outfit Idea #6: Colorful Sneakers + A Knotted Tee & Blue Jeans
Classic combo. I need to figure out how I’m going to crop these jeans, though. I tried cuffing them, but I didn’t like it. I’ll probably wind up just hacking them off an inch above the ankle per usual!

Outfit Idea #7: Colorful Sneakers + Leopard Print & Ripped Jeans
Here’s another example with a print, but the print isn’t high contrast. I LOVE this henley top and it’s on sale!

Outfit Idea #8: Colorful Sneakers + Tie Dye, Yes!
I’ve been hosting summer dyeing parties for a few years now and have dipped my toe into ice dyeing before, but this was my first foray into a garment! I was stoked at how it turned out! I’m hoping to put together a small post about the process at some point, but I’ve also linked to a great Etsy shop with some fun dyed sweatshirts below. I typically shy away from this much color in one outfit, but here I just went for it and it made me happy on this day. I think we all need some of that right now, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. Do something to lift your spirits.

You may have noticed a little shift in my hair style as you worked your way through this post. My neighbor all but dared me to shave my head after she did the other day, but alas, I opted for leaving some on top. It’s SO fun — and if not now, when? Right?
I highly recommend doing something that you love right now or that makes you feel like YOU (I talked about this over on my recent Instagram post, too.) While the colorful sneaks have been a little therapeutic, getting my haircut is always major therapy for me and it felt so freeing to do something more daring with it (hey hey, fellow air signs…are you craving change right now, too??) There’s so much going on, and a haircut isn’t going to change everything, but indulging in something like that right now to lift your spirits? Yes, friends, I say YES.

For down to earth-talk-with a side of funny, be sure to follow me over on Instagram @laurajansenstyle. Some days there will be dance parties, some days there will be recipe ideas, some days there will be fashion, and some days there will be none of that… just a Portland mom trying to get through the day. All are welcome. xo
I love the camo pants! Were they true to size?
Yes! TTS super soft and a nice stretch, but don’t get saggy with wear.
Thank you for continuing to write articles. I really look forward to them every day. They are a momentary reprieve from all the other stuff. Yall are killing it!
Ah thank you SO much. It’s really encouraging to hear this kind of feedback. Thank YOU!
Loving all of the color. Thanks for the ideas!
Thanks so much, Caroline!
Yay, thank you! Ordering! I haven’t even been in the mood to shop so you’ve done a mental health service for the day. 😉
Ahh I’m so glad to help in any small ways. Thank you so much for taking time to comment. You did a mental health service!! xo
I love your hair!
I love all these looks- especially the jumpsuit- who knew it could look so fresh!?
You know what’d I’d love to see?
Some springy/summery staples (elastic friendly a plus) to carry us through summer, which will likely be at home or close by.
I’ll start thinking on this!
