There are certain combinations I’m just never going to abandon despite the ever-changing trends. The classic and comfortable fall trio of cardigans, good jeans, and clogs is one of them. Feels like I’ve been wearing and loving this combination for a lifetime (pretty much have), and I’m definitely not sad about this.
When I find a seasonal uniform that works for me, I stick with it.
Another thing I’m not going to change up? Adding in GORGEOUS fall colors to my go-to fall outfit formula. For Autumn 2022, it’s definitely going to be all the delicious shades of plum.
Plum: The Color Update Your Fall Outfit Craves
Plum, cabernet, burgundy, Bordeaux, beetroot…the various brands and designers name this color in different ways, but whatever you want to call it…it’s a sure winner for fall.
Why didn’t I recognize before that this deep rich plum color goes with EVERYTHING! I have yet to find something in my closet that this plum bag doesn’t look good with — most excitingly, all of my cardigans and cardigan-coats LOVE it!”
Looks good with beige…check. Works with black…check. Coordinates with brown…check. Denim, other shades of plum, all the fall colors, all the cardigans… check, check, check and check. It’s the color I didn’t know my cardigans and I were craving…not necessarily a statement piece, but simply makes all my classic neutral closet staples look better.
This particular Clare V bag is perfection…the size, the shape, the details… but the overall selection of plum bags is great this season, and I’ve rounded up more beautiful plum bags in a range of price points below.

Outfit Details: Vince Cardigans, MOTHER Flares, & Clogs
I wear cardigan sweaters, cardigan blazers, cardigan coats, coatigans…alllll the varieties allll season long. I’ll admit that I have many in my rotation, but Shana and I have taken note (we both own this one in black) that the cardigans that stick around the longest, that we just can’t quit, are the classic cardigan-coats from Vince.
Why Vince? Although they’re priced at a higher point, they have that designer look and luxe feel and texture that’s hard to duplicate. I’ve searched and searched for good dupes, and they’re just not the same. Alternatives I can find…sure. And I’ll be talking about cardigans in a range of prices all month long, but if they’re in your budget, the Vince cardis are good. Perfectly oversized, clean lines with elegant drape, and classic styles that can be worn for years.
Added bonus…this year’s versions are soft, cozy, and have this great comfy stretchy element that makes me oh-so-happy every time I grab them as my top layer.
As for the jeans, I’ve talked about MOTHER The Tomcat Rollers before –they’re a favorite. Stretchy (you guys seeing a theme here with my fashion preferences?), a good wash, comfortable fit, and easy to wear with clogs (a fall season requirement).
BUT…these particular MOTHER The Fly Tomcat Rollers are new and have such a fun detail that I’m loving. Check out the button-fly! It’s distressed. These new little details make it a tad more interesting to those of us who wear the same combinations and same styles on repeat…changes it up JUST enough.
And finally, the clogs. Vince Camuto is a new brand to me for clogs, and I’m quite happy with the detailing and color selections. They come in light cognac, antique pink, and black, but the root beer color that I’m wearing is my favorite. With the gold buckle and gold studded detailing, they look a bit more elevated than some of my other more classic clogs…AND they achieve that slightly dressier vibe without going higher in heel height.
Thank you so much to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post. Nordstrom carries such a great selection of many of my favorite brands (Clare V, MOTHER, SOKO, ATM, Vince), and they make it incredibly easy to shop with free shipping, free returns, and truly helpful customer service. Racking up those Nordstrom points for rewards is always a fun bonus of shopping with them too.
Happy fall, everyone!
Hiya, Pinners. You’ll love this…
