Hey, hey, Friday! School’s out for summer here finally, and now I have a fifth grader…dang. Time being that thief and all. I’m hosting book club here tonight, and I’m stoked to have my peeps over. We put together a group from the rad fourth-grade moms at school. I decided on doing a pasta-salad bar for my friends tonight for the main course…then everyone can put what they like on their plates, and others are bringing sides and desserts. I’ll be making these refreshing, herby cocktails from last summer too! I LOVE HOSTING. Wish I could host you all!
A few top sales picks I’m loving this weekend are these adidas Court Cloudfoam sneakers with a great gum sole, this tank I’ve been sleeping in because it’s too comfy, and this gorgeous pillow from my friend Janelle’s line at Anthropologie. ONE: Both this great windbreaker and cool tank are on sale at Athleta! The tank is really unique and also easy to wear. It’d be great for something like tennis or hiking, but it’s perfect for every day too. The jacket is such a gorgeous color and perfect to wear to and from workouts, for windy days, etc. True to size. Wearing a M in the tank, a S in the jacket.
TWO: The current version of the Calia shorts that actually fit my thighs are on sale in a pretty neutral shade. They run TTS and have a great comfy waistband. They’re perfect for popping on over a swimsuit or bumming around the yard. I love them, and if you’ll remember, I tried on, like, 15 pairs. WHEW. These won out!

Hello from Calgary, Alberta! Mom and I are up here visiting my brother and family — it’s our first time back in Canada since before the pandemic, and it’s been waaay too long. We’re heading up to Canmore today, and I can’t wait to see the mountains; although the smoke is a bit crazy here, so hopefully we can still see them with all the wildfires happening. I now get what Shana and the Philly team have been experiencing!
I wasn’t sure what to pack for weather that could be warm or cold, rainy or sunny, so I built most of my outfits around these checkered Vans (on sale!) we all love so much. TWO: My favorite thing about Gap’s faux-leather pants is that they come in regular, tall and petite sizes, as well as short and long inseams…so the fit can be exactly what you want. They’re super-comfortable (I love the high-but-not-too-high rise), and they’re 50% off right now — the lowest I’ve seen!

I’ve been taking the assignment pretty seriously, and as of now I’ve come up with sporty & sexy, but I’m struggling with the third word. I’ve had a slow, snuggly week all thanks to my poor kid getting sick. This is the first time he’s wanted to just lay on the couch with me and watch TV for hours on end. While I’m happily receiving every second of snuggles, there’s nothing worse than when your babe isn’t feeling well.
So, needless to say, I’m hunting sales in the wee hours of the night, with my favorite cardigan wrapped around me and candles burning (a glass of organic Avaline wine is poured too — thank you, CAMERON DIAZ). ONE: A slightly different wash of these crowd-favorite jean shorts is on sale — arguably the most popular wash too! I go back and forth between my true size (being nice & slouchy) and sizing down one (for a fitted look) with this style.
TWO: I’ve been wearing this longline sports bra since I was freshly postpartum, and I still wear it weekly (uhm, I’ve actually got one on right now). It’s simply one of the comfiest, most practical and versatile bras in my drawer. I wear it for light workouts, as layered crop tops, or just as a comfy everyday bra! PERFECT for tucking up a tee too. ONE: Cinq à Sept Cowl-Neck Camisole (XS) – One of my biggest regrets was returning this camisole last year. The silk is thick and has an amazing drape. Right now, it’s available in other colors, and some of them are on sale — the Bonsai looks stunning. If you can get the matching set, it’ll be a timeless outfit in your closet.
TWO: Cinq à Sept Giles Cargo Joggers (S) – I read an article about this brand’s founder, and she said these pants are her favorite. Well, after having mine for a year, they’re a great addition to my closet. Super-easy to dress up or down while always looking fabulous.

Hello from the Last Day of Surf Camp! Written with all caps, because it feels like a bit of a holiday around here. If you’ve not done surf camp before, it’s absolutely an amazing experience for the kiddos (we love Tommy Tsunami for local instruction)…and a huge time suck when it comes to getting the littles into and out of their wetsuits, showered off, wetsuits rinsed and hung to dry. And let’s not forget lunch for these hangry little bodies. The schedule also makes nap time tricky for the babe, and even though I promised myself I wouldn’t stress about such things with the second one, I’ve been a buzzing ball of anxiety every morning this week. Bring on the three-day weekend.
Sales I’m eyeing up: These Vans are equal parts nostalgic and cool, especially in the Green True color. I’d wear them with denim shorts and a big hoodie. It’s been a while since I’ve fallen hard for a pair of heels, but these slingbacks (in the indigo!!!) — with wide, cropped pants and a button-up. Yes. And Gap’s got undies on super-sale (the little things, right?), and I’m scooping up a handful of styles, including these Calvin-esque thongs.
The exact colorway of my adidas Pureboost sneakers are marked down more than 50% off right now — down to $63. These are so cushy and comfy, right outta the box. I wear them almost daily for running or walking. And this color is great for double-dutying with jeans, but the other colors are on sale too. I just picked up the Wonder Red/Mauve — so pretty. Hi! Happy Weekend! Jon, my partner, is taking his first vacation from work in three years. Well, it’s not so much a vacation, as it is a staycation (and staycations are really NOT my thing). I prefer actually going somewhere (anywhere) for vacay. But since Jon’s feeling a little burnt out with work lately, we plan on staying closer to home next week to use this time to get some real work done on our various home DIY projects. Plus, we’ll take some day trips exploring areas closer to home here in West Michigan. Yay.

I’m home this week from a trip to Oregon full of delicious food, and I’m delighted to have met lovely Laura face-to-face. I had the incredible good fortune to visit Redwoods state & national parks as well as Crater Lake National Park, which meant I spent a lot of time in my super-comfortable Athleta Trekkie pants and my favorite soft Nike sweatshirt.
Road trips are also the best time for audiobooks. I absolutely loved listening to Tim Robbins read Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” — the voice acting is incredible, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

ONE: I guess this is my ode to true blue — the color of Crater Lake on a summer’s day. This halter-neck dress from Gap is tiered and lightweight but not billowy, plus it’s on sale right now.
TWO: The fit of Madewell suits just works for me, and this royal-blue linen suit (blazer and trousers) is both versatile and special. It’s not always easy to find linen in bright hues.
