Happy Friday! Athleta’s warehouse sale is too good to pass up. It’s a go-to for athletic wear that’s easy dress up and down. Case in point? Kat scooped up this dress last spring that works for the office — and even straight to date night. It’s the perfect piece for all-day wear (made of lightweight TENCEL Modal — think: soft, breathable, effortless), and easy to warm up with a jacket while the weather transitions.

Hey, hey, Friday! Whew. We made it. We’ve all been sickies over here for the past week, and I’m so over it. My little Sienna rarely gets sick enough to lose that sparkle, but this week, that’s what happened. They even started calling me Mama and thanking me for waiting on them (a queen at milking situations for sure, haha). I love taking care of this kiddo, but I’m getting a little over being short-order cook this week. Plus, last week was our spring break, so yeah. Not much of a break for mom, eh? Props to everyone who’s a working parent at home with sick kiddos. Thank the goddesses that we aren’t doing virtual school during a pandemic anymore (sorry, too soon?).

As a former Nashvillian, I’d like to give a freaking giant shoutout to all friends who have been attending protests downtown there this week. WTAF, Tennessee. I can’t even. They’re not even hiding it. The racism and fascism are just outright blatant. As I find out more about how we can help, I’ll share on my IG. In the meantime, Everytown and Moms Demand Action can always use our help.

As for the world of fashion this weekend (for a horrible transition), I’m currently eyeing up: these rag & bone cutoffs that don’t look too short | these Cloudfoam shoes (that sole!) | and something like this little thing for travel. Need. Now for my top two sale picks…

ONE: This great windbreaker from Athleta is the most gorgeous color, and it’s on sale now for $119 (down from $149)! I LOVE it and recently took it on our weekend trip to the Hood Canal area. It’s a perfect spring jacket…breathable, wind- and water-resistant, and super-cute with the drawstrings at the waist. Athleta has some great stuff on sale!

TWO: I’m still in love with my two-tone Levi’s 501s, and they’re on sale at Nordstrom. Under $90, down from $128. They’re so fun and flattering, and two of the best blue washes Levi’s has to offer in one jean. Wearing a 29, and they’re breaking in beautifully. TTS for fitted but eventually super-comfy — size up for more slouch.

The rest of my sale picks are below. Happy Easter weekend to those who celebrate. Xo-L

We were at Disney last week, and I’m STILL exhausted from the trip. It was insanely fun — and hot! — and just the break from “real life” we needed. We went to Epcot, Sea World, Magic Kingdom and ended the week at Discovery Cove, where we swam with dolphins… Omg, was that cool! I kind of can’t wait to go back.

In sales news, Gap’s sale is on fire this weekend: I’m loving this dress, this utility jacket (Gap has made some updates, but it’s essentially the one I’ve had and loved for years), and these shorts that are all perfect for spring. Ulta Beauty’s Spring Haul Event is also definitely worth checking out — a bunch of my favorites are included in the sale at up to 40% off, including Batiste dry shampoos, IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream minis, and the only brush my kids will let me brush their hair with. Check out more of my top picks here.

ONE: The SPANX Perfect Pants I’m obsessed with are 30% off! Available in regular, petite and tall sizes, these pants are SO comfy and versatile. (The super-soft sweatshirt and belt bag I’m wearing are also on sale!)

TWO: This Free People top is an instant favorite. I love the drape, the way it moves and the tie in the back. On sale in multiple colors here!

Happy Friday, beautiful people! I’m in the home stretch of getting my guest-room renovations finished. What was supposed to be an easy DIY paint job has since turned into a three-week reno with contractors and construction workers. I absolutely love my 100-year-old home, but boy oh boy, nothing is easy when it comes to remodeling. The walls have since been mud-finished, primed and painted; all the carpet was removed; and we found the most beautiful white-oak floors that are original to the home! Now that I know what the flooring looks like, I’ll be removing all the laminate wood flooring that was installed by the previous owners. I’m so excited to continue the process of renovating my home to be just the way I want it to be, but let me tell you, the price to renovate old homes is not for the faint of heart… It’s hella expensive and is putting a damper on my designer purchases.

Speaking of designer purchases, I’ve been crushing hard on these silver chrome Prada heels. And while I absolutely love them, I didn’t want to splurge and found the most amazing dupes that IMO are even cooler and so freaking comfortable. They arrived a few days ago, and are hands-down my favorite spring purchase. P.S. DSW is running a sale right now where you can get up to $60 off your purchase, so I’d recommend running over to the DSW site to snag a pair for yourself, because these shoes are selling out fast and are a fraction of the Prada price.

Other sale pieces I am loving: If you like bananas…you’ll like this, and this dress is giving me Big Bird vibes, and I’m strangely in love with it. | I have two personalities when it comes to shoes: heels or crocs. I’m waiting for these to come in the mail. | It’s about to be shorts szn, and these cute af denim bermudas are under $30.

ONE: My fave bubblegum-pink sweatpants are currently $17! They’re easy and breezy, and if pink isn’t your thing, it’s on sale in some very pretty neutrals too. P.S. You can peep the chrome shoes I was raving about above in the photo!

TWO: I have had my knife & essential kitchen tools set for a year and a half now and still LOVE it. It’s such a pretty statement piece in my kitchen and all the utensils are ten out of ten. I think it’s time to add their table knife set to my collection too!

Well, hellloooo, Easter weekend. My sinuses are finally seeming to clear from the heavy sickness I’ve had (knock on wood) — just in time to enjoy the amazing spring weather we’re getting here in San Diego. Having a kid makes holidays so. stinkin. fun, and I can’t wait to decorate eggs with my little guy, hide eggs filled with treats, eat deviled eggs — ALL THE EGG THINGS (lol) in celebration of spring.

I didn’t think Easter was a big moment for sales, but a lot of my favorite retailers seem to be celebrating with great markdowns sitewide (!!), and those that run sale events (Gap, Abercrombie, etc.) seem to be upping the ante with steeper-than-usual discounts. So, let’s hop (wink, wink) our little booties over to the good stuff.

I’m personally going to be perusing the entire catalog at H&M (20% off sitewide) because it has serious summer stunners, like this linen top with contrasting buttons and cotton-silk tees. Next, Anthropolgie has some epic sale gems, but of course I found this sweater not on sale, and it’s all I can think about (I mean, NARWHALS?!). Last one I’ll mention here: Athleta’s warehouse sale, featuring my fave Elation material in multiple pants, but I’m eyeing these wide-legs!

ONE: Hold up, these perfectly classic denim shorts are on sale at Nordstrom! They have a high rise that opens up into a loose leg and fits like a glove. It very much reminds me of the AGOLDE Parker Shorts, except the waist sits a little higher (which in turn feels more comfortable for me personally), AND these are far less expensive. I love this non-distressed wash; it gives summertime outfits a more chic appearance, IMO.

TWO: My cotton button-back shirt (that’s right, buttons on the BACK, and they’re amazing) is on sale for under $40! Such a fantastic statement piece to throw on with summer shorts & pants. Runs big — I’m in a medium, and it’s still oversized, but it’s perfect that way.

I hope you’re enjoying this holiday week. I’m off to a farm today. My Mapuche friend (indigenous from Patagonia) is starting a native garden to provide food to all the city natives in the area and needs all the help she can get. She’s an admirable woman who carries and guards her ancestors’ wisdom and creates a community wherever she goes. So, I’ll be driving upstate any chance I get.

Now sales!!! I’m over the moon. Many of my tried-and-true Levi’s jeans/shorts are on sale. And these lined workout shorts from Abercrombie I’m wearing right now are sooooo comfy.

ONE: Levi’s 501 Original Cutoff Shorts – Out of the many denim cutoffs I’ve tried, these are some of my favorites. I love the wash, rise (more of a mid-rise) and length. They’re longer in the back and go slightly shorter in the front. I’m wearing them with TME’s favorite camisole

TWO: Levi’s Wedgie White Jeans – I’ve been waiting for these Levi’s to be in stock for at least two years. I couldn’t find a photo, but they are the best white jeans ever. My pair got too small, and I couldn’t find the exact shade for a while. They’re now on their way to me and will report back ASAP.

After three rounds of borrowing it from the library and then buying myself the paperback — all without so much as cracking the spine — I’m finally listening to the audiobook of “A Court Of Thorns and Roses,” and, friends, I want so badly to like it, but it’s getting off to a slow start over here. I’m all for faeries and fantasy, but it’s just not the juicy page turner I was hoping for. Or maybe I’m just not connecting with the narrator. (That’s the thing about audiobooks, isn’t it? One unusually clipped syllable, and you’re ruined for the next 600 pages.) Anyway, I’m sure there are fans out there, so tell me if it’s worth persisting…? Life’s too short (or, rather, too busy) for mediocrity!

In other news, we’re back from Napa today, and I got a sneak peek into what I’ll be wearing here when the weather warms a bit. I brought along a pair of cowboy boots I’ve been wearing for the past 10 years (this is the most similar pair I’ve been able to find), and they feel fresh and fun with a white T-shirt dress and a denim shirt.

Other things I’m loving this week: This brush-on SPF for the kiddos | this vacation-ready midi dress (in black or navy, please) | and these vintage wide-leg jeans that are just interesting enough. Oh! And I’ve had these two-tone 501s in my cart for weeks, and they’re finally on sale. Squeal!

Xo, Em

ONE: This ($13!!) tank has been one of my most-worn items of the past year. I wear it with high-rise jeans, skirts, those swishy pants I adore, and even to bed. Wearing an XS here, and it’s snug enough to wear without a bra. Size up one if you want a looser fit.

TWO: Somehow, both pieces of this Vuori set are still on sale and still in stock (top | bottoms). This is a freaking dream set, friends, in the softest, butteriest, almost sueded fabric that hugs and holds. My favorite set to reach for on weekday mornings when I want to improve the odds of moving my body later in the day. Wearing a small in both pieces.

Congrats to the Louisiana State University women’s basketball team on their NCAA championship win! What a game, guys. I’m so excited that a women’s basketball game drew so many viewers. I hope the momentum continues and players like Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark keep inspiring young women to athletic greatness.

On the fashion front, two of my favorite black pants for work and travel I featured in my recent black-pants try-on are on sale at Gap right now! The crop kick and skinny ponte pants are both discounted.

If you want to laugh until you cry, join Kat and me over on our podcast, where we break down all the spring fashion trends, like denim maxi skirts, cargo pants, micro minis, mesh, Coastal Grandma/Coastal Cowgirl chic, and other trends. We had so much fun recording this episode.

ONE: Guys, I LOVE these Madewell Drapeweave pants that I picked up recently, and now they are 30% off! If you are pear-shaped, these pants are perfection. They actually fit at my true waist and drape beautifully over the thighs. I love the unique dried-rose color and summer-friendly fabric. I wear my usual size 14 in this style.

TWO: Levi’s Spring Fever sale is 30% off sitewide if you’re searching for jeans. My all-time favorite Levi’s jeans are the 726 High-Rise Flare Jeans I’m wearing above (here’s the graphic tee too) — they run TTS (size 32 for me). I’m also thinking of picking up the Essential Western Denim Shirt to rock the denim-on-denim trend.

  1. I read ACOTAR as part of a pact with a friend who forced me to commit to the first 2 books before judging it. And yes, the second book is significantly better than the first — not what you want to hear though, I’m sure, given the number of pages/words that entails!
