I said I wasn’t going to do it — and I held out for over eight years. But this week we welcomed Sally, our first Elf on the Shelf, into our home. (I blame Netflix.) I mean, to see the kids’ reactions was kiiiind of worth it. And every morning they run around trying to find her…and that’s cute. But I’ve assured them that she is NOT always watching them, and the only thing she reports back to Santa are gift requests (not that they’ll be fulfilled) and good deeds (sharing, getting along, etc.). Although I did catch myself saying, “Sally is watching, you guys!” as they argued in the bathtub one night. Gah! I mean…she does come in handy sometimes. 😂 (And I literally can’t get over just how deep this Elf on the Shelf hole can go…people are creative! Any favorite setups to share??)

Hey, hey, Friday! Whew. Think I’ve finally gotten back to myself. I hope y’all are staying well out there. This week has been lots of good work hours and lots of good perusing fun holiday pieces online. Oh, and it was my pal and photographer Posy’s birthday yesterday! We had a lovely, yummy brunch here in town, then all proceeded to wind our way through Anthropologie afterward, oohing and ahhing at the sparkles and velvet. So fun. I now want this after seeing it in-store.
This weekend we’ll hopefully actually get our Christmas tree up, and I’ll be prepping and packing for next week in NY and Philly! A few more things not to miss right now: this perfect under-$50 auntie gift (want) and these also-under-$50 slippers that are actually adorable. And along those lines…are these cute or ugly? ONE: Everlane Cashmere Boxy Crew – I adore this sweater, and it’s over $40 off right now. It’s cropped to the perfect length (i.e., not TOO cropped) and soft and boxy like the name suggests. Happy Friday, beautiful people! I just got back from Antigua, Guatemala, yesterday and am still on cloud nine from the experience. One of my best friends got married, and it truly was the most beautiful wedding ever. If you ever get the chance to visit Guatemala, you have to go to Lake Atitlan. Words cannot describe how stunningly gorgeous it is, but you can get a glimpse of the absolute beauty on my IG. Happy December, dear ones! I had a sudden “oh, no, it’s all happening too fast” moment last night as I sat next to the sparkling tree drinking a glass of wine. This time of year, while feeling mostly “meh” about it in my 20s, is now quickly becoming one of the sweetest parts of the year with my 2-year-old, who makes everything so magical.
My favorite memories as a kid were all of the little traditions my family had, so I’m trying to be intentional about starting my own. I have my eye on a little holiday waffle maker (sale ends today – I just bought this one) for cute breakfasts. Aaaand…I think I need to make this a personal tradition/routine for December, because it turns out my skin is still just as freaking dry even living next to the ocean.

December? I can’t believe it’s already December. We usually plan this month with time, but we’re winging it this year. As I type, I’m still looking for flights to Colombia, but damn, they’re crazy expensive for just 10 days. I’m crossing my fingers and searching every day until we can get a better deal last minute. If not, cold holidays it is.
ONE: Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation – This year one of my sisters, who’s a makeup artist, recommended this foundation, and wow. It covers my rosacea with just a little bit while giving me a healthy glow. I’m using this sale to get my winter shade.
TWO: STAUD Wally Suede Boots (also in tan leather) – These boots make you feel fancy and put-together while being super-comfortable and walkable. If you’re tall or have narrow calves, they’re not slouchy how they look here. That’s the look I get for having wide calves and short legs, but I’m ok with that.

Hi friends! Happy December! Our Elf, Elsa arrived today – one day late, which honestly I kiiiiiinda wanted Lana to think was because of her poor behavior the day before, but in the end it turns out she’s just highly distracted by Cinnalicious Sugardoodle Cookies (which I have now trapped myself into making, whatever the hell they are) and Electronic Dance Music. Pretty sure I also threw in something about her elfphone suggesting a detour to Paris. Day 1 and I’m already tapped out, but as Scotti said, the kiddo’s reaction was pretty awesome. She took the little note explaining Elsa’s tardiness to school today and was telling anyone who would listen about her adventure-filled mishaps.
We’ve got our town’s annual Christmas Parade and tree-lighting tonight, and it’s as adorable as it gets. I picked up this buffalo plaid hat for the wee one (it’s as adorable as you might imagine) and this elf hat, by request, for the not-so-wee one. Holiday cheer has never been in poorer taste and I love it.
