Rag & Bone Faux Jean Joggers: Worth It?

People have been raving about these rag & bone “jeans” (are they joggers? are they sweatpants?) SO much so, that Laura and I both decided we had to try them for ourselves. I mean, they sound too good to be true: joggers that look like jeans and feel like sweatpants. (Exactly what Stay-At-Home life needs.)

The thing that had always held me back before? The price tag. These sweatpants / joggers / jeans / whatever they are, are a whopping $225. I think we all can agree that’s pretty damn steep. BUT…Laura and I are both willing to pay that kind of money for denim if it’s amazing. I couldn’t really see sweatpants being worth it at that price, but…those reviews, tho!

I was actually really excited to try them. I mean, they had to be perfection with that price tag, right?

They look pretty cute, right? But here’s what you need to know. The fabric? Not soft. They’re 100% cotton (which is good), but it feels like a scratchy, slightly stiff terry cloth fabric–not that cozy softness you’d expect with sweatpants. (I’m wondering if a wash would soften them up, but then I worry about them shrinking.)

And the pockets? Don’t line up at all. I mean there are pockets printed on the front, but the actual pockets are right on the side, which makes them gape and stick out.

And you can see the entire outline of the pockets underneath the fabric. Additionally, the waistband is printed with denim details but is also elastic — so the button is often half-folded underneath the crease of the fabric. I was so excited to try them, but they did not live up to expectations (especially with that price tag).

When I first tried them on, my husband said “those are literally the worst pants I’ve ever seen.” (He didn’t see the price tag, either.)

“But they’re cute, right?” I say. “They’re sweatpants.”

“I know.” he says. “They’re ugly. And what’s going on with those pockets?” 🤦🏼‍♀️

I still really want to love them for some reason. I keep trying to talk myself into liking them. I think I just love the idea of them so much. I mean, denim joggers are literally my favorite pants right now, and I’m willing to pay for good ones! But in no way, shape, or form can I get behind the price tag for these…just–no.

Laura’s Take On The rag & bone Jeans Joggers

Hi. OK. So I’ve honestly been eyeing these rag & bone joggers for a long time, even stalking places like Poshmark and eBay to find them. In photos — cute! But I had never actually ordered them.

OMG. Hahahahahahaha is all I have to say.

Y’all. I am willing to spend a little bit more on really great pieces that I adore. I recently styled up and reviewed a cool pair of pants by The Great; they’re my favorite over-priced sweatpants. But I do not get why people love these $225 fake denim joggers.

They seem like something I’d be totally into! I love a good weird closet item, but these are ridiculous. They might even be cute here in our photos…sure a denim jogger lewk is adorbs. But don’t be fooled. The fabric is atrocious IRL (and itchy) and the pockets show through — and they’re not even where the fake pockets are aligned…so my brain is just confused. And for a confusing pair of fake denim joggers, there’s no way in H-E-double-hockey-sticks I’d pay $225. Bahahaha. And you know I’ll pay a pretty price for really good denim. I’m just. left. baffled.

  1. I have always been curious about these. I considered them (or something similar) on many occasions. Even though my little boys had a pair that looked just like these a few years ago, I still thought they might be a kind of cool closet addition. Good to know they stink! Now I can move on to my next obsession.

    • I know…Shana’s boys had those sweat pant jeans from Abercrombie and I was always jealous they didn’t make them in my size! 😂

  2. Thank you so much for this post! I have been so curious and wanting to try these for so long – well that is completely cured now, lol! Are their any you would recommend? I really want to try the one teaspoon jeans that Scotti posted about recently.

  3. Love your brutally honest review of these! I saw them in person the last time I was in Nordstrom and they looked so horrible I couldn’t even bring myself to try them on. They look like those jean printed pants they used to make for kids at discount stores. Ugh Rag and Bone, go home, you’re drunk.

  4. I’m so glad these got resounding nos from both of you. I feel like they’re an early April Fool’s joke. I mean, they’re printed to look like denim? Isn’t that why we shunned pajama jeans? I’m confused about why these even exist, honestly! 😂

  5. Try the Diesel Fayza Jog-Jeans. They look like real jeans – with real pockets and come in cute washes. The fabric is pretty soft and the are really comfortable.

  6. I have them in the dark color and LOVE them! I get tons of compliments. I think you guys should have tried the dark pair not the light. I think you would have liked them better.

  7. I was recently shopping with my 13 YO daughter at American Eagle when she found TWO pairs of jean joggers and squealed “Mom, you would totally wear these” and she was right. They both came home with me. SO COMFY! One pair even has cargo styling- love them!

  8. Back in September 2014 Nordstrom was selling a pair of Rag & Bone sweatpants screen-printed to look like a pair of jeans for $297. I was so astounded I took a picture and posted about it on Facebook so when I saw this post I actually went back and found that old post to confirm when it was and how much they were selling them for. Sounds like the concept hasn’t been improved much since then but at least they dropped the price.

  9. I came here to say this!! American Eagle makes much more affordable pairs that are actually comfy! My husband even got a pair and he LOVES them!

  10. This post was so fun and so funny. Thank you for taking one for the team, satisfying my curiosity and making such a fun post. I’ll buy anything you recommend as a fellow petite lady. But in this instance I just appreciate the lighthearted post after a long day of homeschooling and toddler chasing. Thanks for saving me $225 and brightening my day 😉

  11. Thank god you hated these–I was VERY WORRIED. But then again, even the look of these brings me straight back to 1992 on my elementary school’s playground, where an only slightly more acid-washed version of these were what dorky kids wore. (Kids are cruel, and I’m sorry. I’m sure you’re cool as hell now, Chris B!). It’s the elastic ankle for me that brings it to WTF-town (that and the gaping pockets that have nothing to do with the printed ones. Wow, what a choice, Rag & Bone!)

  12. I wish I had read your review before I bought them. In theory they are perfect for me. Jeans/sweats. Right up my ally. But like you the look dumpy. The pockets don’t lay flat and the crotch is weird. I still want to love them. Trying them on one mor time before I return.
