In early May, I posted a pic on Instagram. I’m leaning on my laundry hamper, wearing a white tank and black pants. But these pants weren’t regular black pants; they were faux-leather pants. The caption reads, “When you want elastic waists, but you’re tired of sweatpants (or they’re all dirty). I swear by faux-leather pants with an elastic waistband. Instant badass feeling.”
You could see the look of accomplishment on my face.
Soft & Comfortable: Faux Leather Pants That Look Casual & Feel Luxe
Note: These faux leather pants are currently part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and will be back to the full price next week. I also love this other pair under $150 or this one under $100.
If you remember my #NSale wishlist, I had these faux leather pants high on my list. The pants mentioned on IG are over 4 years old, and they’ve proved their worth over and over. Before and during quarantine, I could wear them and feel put together while having the comfort that only an elastic waistband can give. Especially when my jeans “decided” to give me a muffin top, and wearing sweatpants every day made me feel everything but accomplished.
How I’m Wearing Faux Leather Pants For Everyday
90-degree weather makes faux leather pants unwearable — I was dripping by the end of this shoot. But once temperatures drop a bit, what will I wear for a casual physically distanced outing? Or make teaching second grade to my oldest child
less traumatic more joyful? Faux leather pants for sure.
With this outfit, I wanted to portray how I’d wear these pants for our new reality. Yes, they will be great dressed up. Heels and a sexy camisole for a night out sometime. A button-down shirt, work heels, and a blazer, very professional. But right now? A white tee, flat shoes, a small bag for necessities, and a face mask are 2020 ready.
How The Rebecca Taylor Faux Leather Pants Fit
Not all faux leather pants are created equal. Early this year, I got one pair that clung to my body horribly. These, however, feel luxurious. The elastic waistband is everything, but I also love having a zipper fly — it makes them even more versatile. And the neat pintucks down your legs? Instant elongating visual detail.
Size-wise, I’m a 25-26 in jeans, and I’m wearing a size 2 here. They feel slightly snug, so I’m waiting for the size 4 to see the difference. I’m in a weird in-between sizes season of life. #thankyouquarantine.
Lengthwise, if you’re petite like me, they need to be hemmed. I folded in the 1″ split hem for the photos, and it worked. I’m 5’2″ for reference.
Lastly, the color is a pretty dark navy, almost black. Honestly, I thought it was black until I saw the inside. Still, I love the idea of a softer black, especially for casual outfits.
I also have a past post with my old pants and three ways to wear them. And a video with four more here.

Are you ready for September? Other than my husband’s birthday, I’m not. Maybe if Colombia opened the airports, and I could just go and spend 2 months there? That’d be something. One can dream, right?
Currently taking some time away from social media to take care of my mental health, but would love to hang out when I’m back for more stylish pants with elastic waistbands (IG: @julietatorresd).
Love this! Curious if the blog has ever done a post on all your favorite white tees? I’m always looking for the perfect one (and like yours above!)
Thank you Jen! I think Shana and Laura love and have talked about a James Perse tee. I haven’t personally tried it, but I do LOVE the one in this post – wearing it right now with the sleeves cuffed as the retailer pic. I just ordered it in the caramel-like color too. I can’t handle how cute these are on you! I have a pair of faux leather leggings that I can’t wait to break out! xx
