You may have caught my post last month where I styled up my favorite slouchy sweatpants. I adore them. I didn’t want to at first, but now they’ve become one of my favorite lounge-to-streetwear pieces (that’s a new term I’m coining for 2021, heh).
I love the (gosh dang it) sold-out pants so much though, that I wanted to review more The Great. lounge pieces. Some readers were raving about their college sweatshirt, too. Naturally, I had to try them out.
Where It Started: The Great. Baggy Cropped Sweats
Like I said, this is where it all started. With these dang pants. The reason I love them? I can’t find any other pants with quite the same cool slouchy shape that aren’t super-long, overwhelming, or as easy to style. I’ve said before, I’m at the point where I’ll drop some cash on things that are really worth my while, that I can justify cost-per-wear. And these are that for me. I wear them ALL the time.

How It’s Going: The Great. Lounge Try-On Sesh
So, of course, I had to extend my experience with this whole brand since they make one of my favorite, most-worn pairs of pants. But all the pieces are like seriously expensive for loungewear. But they also sell out all the time! They rarely stay in stock for more than a minute. They have to be seriously good then, right? Well…
The Great. Cropped Sweatpants & College Sweatshirt (With Hearts!)
OK. So this set is ah-dorable. Adorable. But. But. Still not worth the change, in my opinion. Aaaand the sweatshirt came with a flaw/undone seam at the wrist. Womp womp. UPDATE: apparently this is a ‘thing’ and part of all of their sweatshirts and I don’t know how I feel about it. Heh. I want so much to love you, adorable heart sweatsuit, but I can’t. The pants are a bit of a tighter fit and super-cute cropped length, but the fabric is honestly not much to write home about. It’s not soft and cozy. It’s lighter weight. If you’re in a warmer climate, it’s nice, but not worth the price. Dang it.

The Great. Puffed Sleeve Sweatshirt & Lounge Crop Pants
OK, again. Adorable pieces. This puffed sleeve sweatshirt is so cute, and the fit is great, and I’d wear it a lot, I think. But still pricey for a top like this at $175. Sundry offers one at $110 and while still on the expensive side, much less than The Great. I do love this top. I have it on in green below, too. But I just can’t justify that spend. Does anyone have this and can make a case otherwise? It’s so freaking cute. Again, it’s not a fleecy fabric, but it does seem well-made and a nice weight for most seasons.
The pants? SO soft and that same slouchy cut of the black ones I have and love. But very thin fabric and very much pj’s style (ie. not as versatile as my sweats style) If I’m gonna drop over $100 for lounge pants, I think I want to be able to wear them out of the house, too. But gosh, so soft.

The Great. Sleep Cutoff Sweatshirt & Sleep Pajama Sweatpants
These are the same pants I have and adore, just in gray. They’re definitely comfy enough to wear to sleep in, but cute enough (and not see-thru) that you can style up for casual outfits. They are some of the only pairs in existence right now, but I’ll keep an eye out for restocks. So, we know I love the pants. The shirt just didn’t do much for me, or maybe it was the lighter color of this set together. Definitely take the pants, but I’ll probably leave the shirt.

The Great. Puffed Sleeve Sweatshirt In Green
I liked this puffed sleeve top so much online, I tried it twice. It is super cute. This may be one of those things I eventually talk myself into, or if by some miracle it goes on sale, I will own it. Probably in gray though. But yeah, just not $175 material. (These jeans on the other hand — super-cute and on sale! Thanks, Em! I sized up.)

The Great. The Lace Tee
This lace tee was the only piece I tried that’s on sale. Let’s be honest, that’s why I tried it. And I’m a sucker for stripes. But while I am for stripes, I’m not for lace. I guess I hadn’t had enough coffee when I ordered it, since lace is in the actual name, but I didn’t realize it would have the lace edging. That makes these feel ‘too-pajama’ for me to justify. Super soft though and this is the cute matching topper to the striped pants above. (The navy striped pants are sold out.)
Shop More The Great. Sweats & Loungewear
I’ve included a few more pieces below so you can see the range a bit. They often keep the same cuts coming in and out of stock, just in different colors or with different embroidery patterns. The cropped slouchy style sweats like I love are the ones that always sell out the quickest, it seems.
So, what’s my takeaway? Sheer disappointment, friends. I wanted to love at least one of these pieces enough to justify the price, like my beloved sweats, but I just…didn’t. The heart set is seriously adorable and no judgment if you do decide to take the plunge. It’s supes cute.
If you’ve been a longtime fan or have a piece you love, let us know in the comments! I do understand that price-per-wear argument for pieces we really love and get a lot of use out of.

Would love to have you follow all my daily musings, donut pics and dance parties over on Instagram @laurajansenstyle I try to keep it real over there, with a side of fun and a good dose of social justice.
Oh hey, Pinners…
I loved the sweatpants post you made a while back so much that I almost pulled the trigger–but the price was holding me back. I ended up getting these similar pants from Free People. The marketing images show them rolled a lot, but the leg is actually wider and they have the same laid back drop crotch. Still pretty pricey for lounge wear for me at $80, but much easier to swallow than The Great prices. I got mine in white: https://www.freepeople.com/shop/cool-factor-pants/?color=010&type=REGULAR&quantity=1
Ah yes I included those in the post I did styling up the sweats. I’m so glad you like them! I may need to give them a try!
SO relieved to hear they are not worth the price 🙂 My wallet thanks you!
Thank you for your thoughtful critique, Laura! And as one reader commented awhile ago, I feel like I learn just as much if not, honestly, MORE from when you DON’T give something the thumbs-up as when you do.
Gah those hearts are so cute though. But wayyyy cuter? Your glasses! SO badass and look terrific on you!
Hi! All of their college sweatshirts have the same undone hem at the wrist. I may or may not have three of them and they all have that identical detail at the wrist. Thanks for this honest review!
Doh. Thank you, Shannon! I updated the post haha. Whew. What do you love about their sweatshirts? I’m just curious! I know many ppl love love them!
The seam on the wrist is on purpose they’re all like that. The stadium sweatpants is the one to get it’s the best.
Ah those kept being low in stock, too, but I need to try them. Thanks!
The undone seam is intentional — not a flaw. I own several, and they all have it. Thanks!
I just feel like if 2 years ago we’d have told you you’d be writing a love letter to baggy ass sweatpants you’d have laughed in our faces and told us we were high…
Totally get it, but I’ve always had a love of slouchy sweats haha. But definitely getting more wear out of them right now!
Thanks for the honest review!!
Sure thing! Appreciate you letting us know they are helpful!
Isn’t it crazy how much a global pandemic can change things? I’m still thrown when I see “Face Masks” on retailer websites like every other accessory – never would’ve predicted masks for your face would be fashion but here we are!!
Y’all. How did I miss that this is just a ‘thing’ with their sweatshirts? hahaha. OMG. I don’t know how I feel about it…
Really, really appreciate this honest review! This sets TME apart from so many other fashion blogs that read as advertisements. Have you ever tried Jungmaven tees and sweats? I just bought one of each and while they are crazy soft (hemp) they are substantial and sustainable and Really great quality. As far as coziness, I’m crazy for the Lou Grey super soft- it washes up so much better than similar fabrics I’ve tried from JCrew and others. Only wish the styling was a little more unique!
Ah awesome thank you! I wish Lou & Grey pants were shorter in length but I love love their stuff. I’ll have to give the Super Soft a try! And I’ve been eyeing Jungmaven forever. Need to check that out, too. Thank you! So glad this is helpful. Thanks so so much for commenting.
I wondered what on earth when I got my first one and saw that too. I love the weight of them. I’m in Chicago, so yeah it is freezing, but I don’t always want a super heavy, cozy layer. They also wash REALLY well and don’t shrink which I think helps justify the cost. I hang dry all the things and don’t have to with these. I really think the fit is flattering- I even do the half tuck with jeans with them. I got the Merry Christmas version this year- so fun for the holidays!
