It was strange to try on all these fall and winter jackets and coats on sale at Nordstrom during a heat wave last week, but The Anniversary Sale waits for no (wo)man. I tried on leather jackets, fall transitional coats, dressy wool coats and the warmest puffer jackets I could find. Dressing room selfies and fit notes right this way!…
Fall Coats & Jackets on Sale
This anorak is a great transition jacket for fall – cute mix of sporty & glam, I’m digging it. I found it ran really large so I’d recommend sizing down!
This is a cute little jacket to throw on over everything for fall, the leather is soft and the slight puff sleeves are cute. The medium was a tight over my chest when I zipped it up all the way, but that’s typical for full busts and I probably would never zip it anyway. Cute with a feminine high-neck lacy top and jeans!
I love a good moto and couldn’t resist trying on this cool one from Trouve. I liked how thin the leather was, especially at the neck. It’s cool in a casual way and true to size. Also in warm medium brown & a pretty gray.
Barbour Milfire Quilted Hooded Jacket (sold out)
Barbour Milfire Hooded Jacket (US 8/UK 12) sold out!
Could you tell I was getting a bit loopy by the end of my visit? Unfortunately this Barbour jacket sold out because I really loved it. It can skew a bit more preppy the way the online photos are styled, but pair it will a pair of destroyed denim and moto boots and you’re golden. The good news is there are a few Barbour quilted vests with a similar vibe that are part of the sale, and all under $100!
Barbour Summer Liddesdale Gilet Vest – Really pretty colors, I love the Washed Charcoal, which looks grayish blue online, for fall
Barbour Saddleworth Quilted Vest – Great navy color with a sweet floral lining
And here’s a more casual hooded quilted long parka which is also very cool.
This is an awesome hoodie for fall – think sideline style, school dropoff, to & from the gym or to stay warm duing outside exercise. I absolutely love the elastic in the back waist, which adds shape and is flattering. Love this warm wine color for fall. True to size and so easy to throw on and go.
Loved this cool bomber, it was really warm but not overly bulky, even better: it’s waterproof! This was true to size and also comes in a versatile black. Size medium seems to be sold out, but here’s a lighter green at regular price and a similar Reebok Favorite Bomber Jacket in gray that is part of the sale (and under $60!)
Winter Coats on Sale
The North Face ThermoBall PrimaLoft Hooded Parka (shown at top)
This might be the most flattering puffer I’ve ever tried on – it has a great cinch cord above the waist so you can tailor it to your shape. It’s super soft and not overly puffy, I was actually surprised at how thin but warm it was. Also in a cool gray, but black is the most slimming for a puffer! True to size and really comfortable.
This North Face down parka was incredibly warm – I was definitely starting to sweat after just having it on to snap a quick pic! So cozy and I loved the black knit cuffs that you can fold over to keep your hands warm. The faux fur’s detachable but I think it feminizes the coat and is soft. True to size, wearing a medium. It’s a tad heavy, but that’s expected for such a warm jacket. Would stand up to Boston winters, maybe even Michigan’s!
I was not planning on buying another winter coat, but man, this one is too good. The fit is amazing – the sleeves are just the right length and there’s no pulling when I stretch my arms forward (think Chris Farley’s ‘fat guy in a little coat’ skit – it’s my signature move when testing a coat’s fit). It’s cozy, warm and not at all itchy. 100% recommend this one!
I took a chance on this one because the peachy-pink faux fur hood was just too cute. It’s lined with even softer plush pink fabric (think baby blanket fleece type soft!) The jacket itself is padded and comfortable, lightweight enough to wear easily and not feel like a marshmallow. The perfect winter jacket for the south, or fall/spring jacket for colder regions. And it’s under $80!
This pretty oxblood wool coat was the dressiest option I tried, and I kind of like the way it looks with casual jeans & flats. The sleeves were a bit long and it was tight across my chest when zipped (but that’s typical). The fit notes say size up, but I’m wearing a medium here and the sleeves a large would have been way too long. I definitely liked the way it looked open a lot better; the moto-type collar and asymmetrical zip are really cool.
This BCBG military peacoat is true to size and definitely roomy in the chest area. If you’re petite, you may want to size down! The red accents are so cool (there’s a pop of red on the underside of the collar, too!). The buttons are definitely dramatic. (Wearing with Nordstrom moto leggings – they restocked some sizes! Keep stalking these ones – they’re so good).
I loved this North Face puffer jacket. It was midweight but still warm, and the bottom puffer part where it’s shinier is silky soft. The hood also has the nicest faux fur (that you can zip off) I’ve ever felt on a jacket. It’s true to size and fitted enough to be flattering but not restrictive. If I needed another puffer, I’d get this one in a heartbeat. They restocked all sizes, and it’s also available in black in addition to this “olive leaf” green I’m wearing.
Here are all the jackets & coats I tried on above, plus some more favorites:
