Black Midi Dress + Gladiators = A Modern Day Hepburn

This dress immediately made me think of Audrey Hepburn, whom I adore…and I think I know exactly how she’d wear it. In true Audrey fashion she probably would have slipped on a pair of classic ballet flats, maybe add a dramatic hat and an understated clutch. It would all be very classic and beautiful. Of course!

I wanted to go a different direction with it, though – a more modern, worthy of the everyday type route. While I love a pretty pair of flats, and no one does it as well as Audrey, I like to try to change things up (if even in a small way) and this is where my gladiator sandals came in. They’ve got some of that edge factor and, with it being so hot down here, any bit of skin that can go bare is preferable. Seriously. It’s HOT, ya’ll. After the sandals were on, it was easy to add simple, trendy earrings and a bright, fun clutch…and there I was.

A modern, every day Hepburn.

Yep. That’s me!…ba-ha.

dress: Leith Stretch Knit Midi – comfortable, easy and can be styled up or down. I also like it in the white.

shoes: Rebecca Minkoff – black is sold out. The nude style is still fully in stock, but if you prefer black…I just found these Topshop Hive Pearl Gladiator Sandals…and they’re only $48. If you want something more simple and pretty, I’d check out these Kate Spade Santina Sandals.

bag: ASOS, old – the Rebecca Minkoff Mini Sofia is ummm amazing. It would make any outfit more fun.

earrings: ASOS, old – Missguided has a Silver Hoop Bar earring, which is somewhat similar. Very cool look.

necklace: customizable “Carrie”  necklace – by far my favorite necklace. I’ve had it for 3 years and wear it all of the time.

I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and… I believe in miracles. – Audrey Hepburn

Amen, Audrey. Amen.

Cheers,

Cams

I think I loves this dress even more. I just ordered it and can’t wait to see how it looks on. Thanks for sharing the link!

  1. ordered! thank u for reminding about this dress..saw it in pink awhile back but was on the fence..the black sold me and it’s on sale! score!

  2. Just bought this in the store after seeing your post. Such a comfortable dress! Looking forward to wearing to an upcoming shower while running after my toddler and baby (without worrying about anything “hanging out” / being too short).
