Found: The Best Anti-Aging Skincare Products

After years of trial-and-error, I’ve finally found a seriously killer anti-aging regimen, perfect for the mama who is physically over 35 (close enough) but mentally 27.  This regimen consists of four nearly-miraculous products with great texture, smell, and – best of all – effectiveness.  After months of use, they’ve managed to refine my skin tone and texture, make my eyelids less crepe-y, and erase many of the fine lines/wrinkles around my eyes.  Um.  That’s all.

I know I’ve waxed poetic about Colleen Rothschild products before…but I’ve been using them for years, and I’m a HUGE fan. Even when I’ve gone through fickle periods (could something better be out there??) and tried to switch…I always go back. So when Colleen Rothschild reached out offering our readers the chance to win a $200 gift card to shop her products..I did my happy dance (you know the one). Keep reading for details at the bottom. And quite frankly, there have been some product tweaks (well….new products actually, but I’ll explain why I call them ‘tweaks’) that I’ve been meaning to talk about, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

And let’s not forget that I once called the oil-based cleanser life changing, as it’s the only product I’ve ever used that actually makes me look forward to washing my face at night (no splashing water required, whaaat).  And all products are paraben-free.

Step 1:  Cleanse

Colleen Rothschild’s Radiant Cleansing Balm is an oil-based cleanser that IS life-changing.  I stand firmly by my dramatics (just ask my husband, haha).  It removes all traces of makeup (even eye makeup), and never requires follow-up with a toner.  Nor does it require splashing water on your face – which for some reason, always fills me with dread – instead, just wet the included muslin cloth with water, and simply wipe the cleanser from your face.   The result is completely clean skin that isn’t overly stripped or tight.

And buy extra muslin cloths.  They’re worth every penny.

Step 2:  Eye Serum/Cream

The Retinol Supreme Eye Serum is one of their newer products, and one that I’m reallllly excited about.  It’s a retinol serum that is also infused with Vitamin C.  Unlike most eye serums, it’s actually insanely moisturizing – no need to follow up with a moisturizing cream.  I’ve been using it for the last few months, and can’t believe how well it moisturizes.  I’ve noticed a big difference in fine lines and the crepe-y eyelid situation as well.

Step 3: Retinol Serum

Ok – this is the product “tweak” I mentioned.  Previously, I was using Colleen’s Retinol Cream, followed by the Face Oil No. 9.  This new Retinol Supreme Night Oil combines both the retinol and the night oil….with some Vitamin C thrown in.  I was initially suspicious (for some reason I liked mixing the two original products) but the Vitamin C addition totally sold me.  My skin LOVES this stuff.  And this product contains the max amount of retinol possible in over-the-counter products.

Step 4: Moisturize

The Extreme Recovery Cream has been one of my long-time favorites.  It has Hyaluronic Acid (along with a bunch of other super-powered stuff) and is seriously moisturizing.  It’s saved my skin during dry winters, trips to Colorado and Utah…yet it’s light enough to use in the summer.  (I just cut down on how much I use in summer months.) It’s kind of an un-sung hero.

So that’s it!!  My entire nighttime routine – all (only?) four steps.  Not bad.

  1. I am a huge fan of this site and a rabid consumer of mommy fashion blogs (I don’t know how this happened. I am not a mother.) This is by far my favorite mainly because of your (Shana’s) style. As someone who views several other similar-genre blogs daily, there are several other reasons I appreciate this site.
It’s pretty clear that you all receive outreach from the same companies (Nordstrom, loft, jcrew, anthro, Abercrombie). What I appreciate here is the standards and personal style that comes through. And you resist some baffling brands that I’ll see featured elsewhere (soma? Penny? And while I like their style, don’t get me started on the customer service nightmare that is Sole Society).
I get that diff readerships want different things, but it’s off-putting when several blogs feature the same brand at the same time (I don’t mean big sales of course that everyone reviews). It’s clear you put a lot of thought (and thank god editing) into what you publish. Thanks for that. And a Mango review? Awesome.
I absolutely have purchased things that you guys suggested, including Colleen Rothschild. And I cut my jeans using your guide. And loved the Iceland review and outfits.
Sorry for the missive — I’ve been meaning to share my appreciation for a while:)

Do you mind sharing your daytime routine, too? Do any of these products do day and night duty? I’m pretty happy with my current skincare line (Rodan + Fields), but I’m always willing to try some thing new. Especially if it works as well and maybe doesn’t cost quite as much.

  3. Hi Shana!

I bought the cleansing oil and retinol serum a while ago based on your recommendation. I like the cleansing oil – it smells amazing – but do find it makes my face too dry. Any recommendations?

The retinol serum hydrated my face but it always made my bangs greasy and I had a personal reaction around my eyes that made me have to hit using it. Am I mis-applying this somehow?

    Thanks!

  4. Colleen Rothschild convert over here!!! I love her pink night serum and the retinol eye serum. I have oily skin so I use her other cleanser. Love you all, love the blog, love Colleen!!!
