All Black Outfit? Lighten Up For Spring With These Two Pieces

Yup, I’m still wearing that outfit. Black turtleneck, black skinny jeans (a washed black rinse, for the record), but still. It’s March, and I’ve been rocking basically the same thing since…December? November? I am chasing that brass ring of summer, though, as I peruse swimsuit after swimsuit. But when it comes down to getting dressed….I’m…here. In my All-Black.

I find that my best outfits (and we can argue the definition of “best”…in this context feel free to swap “best” with “achievable on little sleep” or “stain-proof” rather than “amazing” or “swoon-worthy”) are the outfits that start with things I’m comfortable with…and then tweak.

Baby steps, rather than an overhaul.

Spring is coming, you say? I see your Spring and raise it a black sweater… and a….tan coat. I take those March winds and stand defiantly in my black jeans and snakeskin booties.

Or something like that, anyway.

A Few Tan Coats To Transition To Spring

The color doesn’t matter quite so much…as long as it’s light. Tan, beige, camel….even a soft gray would work. The key is to go with a lighter shade. And if it’s still freezing in March (wherever you live), a classic wool topper is a great choice. Otherwise, a French-girl trench is totally calling my name. In any case, I rounded up a few options I think would not only elevate a daily uniform, but lighten it up — just a little bit — for Spring.

Snakeskin Booties – My Favorites

I chose a pair with a slight western flare…but that’s not crucial. The biggest plus to a snake print is, rather obviously, the print. The reason it works so well is because it *almost* spoofs the white bootie trend…but because there are also darker tones in a snake print, it’s still grounded. Meaning? It goes with everything and is MUCH easier to wear.

Like our beloved leopard print….it’s a neutral.

Any other tricks to lighten up an all-black outfit for Spring? I KNOW I’m not the only one stuck in a black turtleneck…

xo,

S

  1. The snakeskin booties are fabulous, but still pretty obsessed with the white bootie scene–are they still on trend for spring or is that SO last year?
