I love fall – the cool evenings, the crunch of the leaves underfoot, back to school shopping, cozy sweaters, a new pair of boots….and jeans. Sigh. The jeans. I am just SO very excited about the denim options this fall. We are truly in a time where everything goes — wide legs, skinnys, bootcut, straight leg. Often the trend is to channel a specific fashion decade – think the very 70’s look from this summer, or the 50’s dresses that were big a while back. But this season, the trends are channeling all of the decades — and mixing decades to create new cool styles. So pick your favorite denim look and rock it! In order to help those of you who aren’t quite sure which look you’d like to “rock”, or those of you currently looking for a new look, this month the Ain’t No Mom Jeans blog is going to dedicate each weekly blog to a different denim look. I’ve chosen the top four denim looks that are both mom friendly and also help to upgrade the mom uniform with an extra dose of cool. So, if you have found yourself in a bootcut denim rut, keep reading!!
Let’s start the Denim month off with my very favorite trend – the Boyfriend jean! I think this is the most mom-friendly of the bunch. The boyfriend jean should be in that perfect shade of blue (not too light, not too dark), fit rather loose through the hips and seat, and have straight legs. The length of this jean should be almost touching the ground when you are wearing sneakers. Here’s a few examples of my favorite Boyfriend jeans in both high end and affordable options:
High End
Let’s start with the best of the best – the Current Elliott Cropped Boyfriend Jean in Super Loved Destroy Wash (pictured above). This jean makes my heart beat fast. It’s the jean that’s been spotted on celebs like Reece Witherspoon, Rachel Bilson, etc.
You can pre-order it at eluxury.com for $226 by clicking here.
Affordable
If you don’t have $226 to spend, the next best option is actually quite inexpensive. American Eagle Outfitters is making a phenominal boyfriend jean – great cut, great color, great details. This jean is called the Favorite Boyfriend Jean, in Teal Destroyed Wash.
How to Style:
This style of jean needs to be rolled. Don’t be afraid. Just roll the cuff up about 3 times (the cuff should be 1-2 inches). That’s it. You are exposing your ankles. Now you are ready to complete the styling.
A really fun way to style this jean is to wear it with a pair of high heels (pictured in the Current Elliott photo above), with a drapey tank tucked in and a cool belt. However, that’s not exactly mom friendly. To make this style more Mom friendly (but still cool), throw on a casual cotton tee, a rugged belt and find some cool but glam flats to offset the very casual jean. Throw on a cuff bracelet (kid proof accessory!!) and you are the coolest mom around. Expecting moms can also wear this style. I actually bought the American Eagle boyfriend jean (a size or two larger) when I was pregnant. It fits nicely below the belly. See below for a complete look for the Boyfriend jean:
Pick a simple v-neck tee (I like the one pictured from shopbop.com Bop Basics for $35, tuck it in with a substantial leather belt (try Gap’s Jean Belt in brown for $24) and some walkable but cool shoes, like the Birkenstock Gizehs in Cortina Green Chain Leather for $140 (they also have less embellished options that are cheaper). Cold? Add J. Crew’s Jackie Cardigan in navy, $62 and Gap’s Floral Embroidered Scarf in neutral plaid. Finally, I’m in love with the Alkemie Jewelry Leather Leaf Bracelet from shopbop.com for $165. The bracelet is made out of leather, which won’t break if a little one is pulling (or teething) on it.
