Shades Of Brown: 12 Pieces I’m Actually Wearing In This Trendy Hue

The TME favorite hue for fall 2019 is brown, and I cannot get enough! I am SO drawn to all of the various shades of brown right now, and every morning when I look in my closet, I find myself wanting to wear SOMETHING that is in this color family. Shana described this fall trend really well in her post on The Only Fall (& Winter) Fashion Trend You Really Need To Know About:

This fall is about the whole spectrum of warmer tones. We’re talking hues like tan, camel, clay, amber, cocoa, mahogany, rust, terracotta, goldenrod, honey, umber, sepia, walnut, burnt sienna, sandy browns or bronze. Some of these browns drift more to the yellows, some border on orange, and some are a deeper, rich red. But they all have brown in their base, and they ALL feel really fresh this Fall.

I realized after going through my old stuff in my closet, as well as a few recent purchases, I have 12 “within the brown family” pieces that I’m wearing right now or going to wear as soon as it cools down a bit in Philly. So for fun, go through your closet and pull out every single thing that’s within this warm tone color family, and see if incorporating them helps freshen things up a bit. I haven’t done the “all brown look” yet (that Shana rocks here), but I AM enjoying adding just a pop of brown to my daily go-to outfits. An easy trend to try for sure!

12 On-Trend Ways To Wear Brown

Brown & its warm-toned shades — goldenrod, honey, bronze, tan, camel — are colors we're calling out for fall trends: 12 items from our closet, here.

1. Versatile Cute Clogs

I am wearing THE HECK out of these brown clogs. Everything I put them on with, I think, “Hey…that totally works.” I most often wear them with this black midi dress, these jeans, and a lot of my summer skirts and dresses that I’m trying to transition in to fall.

2.   Simple Striped Tee

A good striped tee is always a closet staple for me, so I was more than willing to buy a new one in a shade of this season’s favorite hue. Actually I bought two (this one also), because I know I will wear them on repeat. I’m currently wearing them with light, dark and black denim, as well as my black midi skirt.

3. Flirty Midi Skirt

This is my latest purchase, and I’m pretty excited about it. I find it difficult to get the exact right fit with my body shape in the silk midi skirts, but this is made from a stretchy knit (but not TOO TOO stretchy-tight), and it fits perfectly. It also has more of a fun silhouette that fits my personal style and is so fun to twirl in. Right now I’m wearing it with a black or white tank/tee and clogs, but planning on wearing it with solid sweaters and boots when it turns colder. Kat paired it with a gray top, denim jacket and red shoes here, and I want to try and recreate that too.

4.  Fun Hair Accessories

When all else fails with whatever I’m trying to “do with my outfit”, I accessorize. It has saved me SOOOOOOO many times. This cool headband and these fun hair clips are my fall updates.

5. Cozy Cardigan

It has been SOOOOOOOO hot that I haven’t had a chance to wear this, but the tags are off and it’s a keeper.  Hoping for a cool day soon to throw it on over anything and call it an “outfit”.

6. Pretty Toe Nails

This is ACTUALLY what I’ve really been able to wear the most for “fall brown fashion”. As I said…it’s been so hot that I’m still wearing open-toed clogs, but I switched to brown nail polish to make me feel a little more “fallish”.  I’ve also been wearing this brown nail polish with these other light gold comfy sandals on REALLY hot days, and surprisingly,  they’re a nice look for fall transition if you’re somewhere where it’s still steamy.

7.  SUPER-Walkable Boots

I have a very old pair of brown Fly Londons that I’m still wearing from my closet (mostly with light colored denim), but I’m seriously considering getting these. Fly Londons are one of my favorite brand of shoe for SUPER comfort, as well as interesting (not your typical on-trend) styling. Would wear them under straight leg denim, as well as with my black midi dress or skirt.

8.  Easy Stripe Sweater

I have an old striped brown and black sweater, similar to this one that’s making it way back to the front of my closet. Like the striped tee it’s easy, and striped sweaters tend to get a ton of wear in my wardrobe.

9. Fashion Sneaks

I LOVE these sneaks. I’m loving all Tretorns, actually, but in a shade of brown/rust/pumpkin/ they’re even better. Wearing these mostly with denim, but have also worn them with a couple of dresses…usually monochromatic top and bottom with a pop of pumpkin on the feet.

10.  Everyday Sunglasses

I’ve had Warby Parker tortoiseshell sunnies similar to these for a while now, and it just dawned on me that they are going with the whole “brown” thing, right? Look at me…so on-trend without any effort. Brown sunnies are a super easy way to incorporate some more brown tones into your look.

11.  Playful Tunic/Dress

I have a few older tunics/dresses that have brown in their patterns that I’m pulling out from the back of the closet. I often will wear a Free People or Boden tunic/dress over jeans, pants or tights. Love the goldenrod and rusty red colors in the one below.

12. Sustainable Cool Earrings

I have a TON of brown earrings on my dresser. I’ve always liked the look of a brown statement earring…interesting, but not too flashy. I’m obsessed right now, though, with all the more sustainable options out there for earring material. The ones below I picked up at a local boutique, and are made from reclaimed cattle horns. Soko carries some similar looks in reclaimed horn material, as well as ethically sourced wood.
