It’s no secret I love my sparkles and there’s no better time to wear them than the holidays. It doesn’t matter if I’m going to a glamorous party (less likely), ringing in the New Year at home (most likely), or just adding them into my daily looks. Sequins and all things sparkly bring me joy. And I love to use the holiday season as an excuse to go all out, leaning hard into the glitz and glam.
Seriously Glam Holiday Style: Sparkly Party Dresses & Faux Fur Coats
My friend Amanda also loves all things glitz and glam (we’ve been getting ready together for dances and parties and weddings since ninth grade), so I thought it would be fun to put together a couple of sparkly, fancy outfits (inspired by this incredible party dress) and go out for a night on the town. I already had a trip to Chicago planned (Amanda’s current city), so we took advantage and went all out.
It was…an absolute blast.

Winter Glam Starts Here: A Faux-Fur Coat
My favorite way to wear sparkles – especially when it gets cold out – is with a big ol’ faux fur coat. It definitely makes a statement, yet more importantly, it’s warm. And if you’re going to bare legs in the winter…you’ll want a warm and cozy coat on top. (Although I’d still recommend wearing tights in Marquette’s winters.)

One of my favorite things about these big fluffy coats is being able to lay them over chairs in restaurants to sit on – so no freezing bare legs on cold surfaces. It’s like wearing a blanket, which I love.
Faux-fur Coat Fit Notes: Amanda and I found that ALL faux fur coats are basically running really oversized right now. We’re both wearing an xs in our coats and had plenty of room.

Amanda and I both tried a bunch of sparkly party dresses (Nordstrom has a ton to choose from – I rounded up a bunch below), and the silver dress I decided to go with is so fun to wear. It’s definitely short, but since I’m 5’4″, I liked the flirty length. I think it works well with the extra coverage of the long sleeves and I especially love the fact that a regular bra can be worn underneath. If I had to warm it up (hello, Marquette winters), I’d just add tights and boots. Easy.
Silver Dress Fit Notes: I tried on the small, medium and extra-small…extra small was a tad too short, medium was a bit shapeless overall, and small fit best. (I’m typically a size 4-6 in dresses.)

Amanda’s dress looks black in the photos, but it’s actually this sparkly brown dress. I tried it on before Amanda and knew she’d love it – but almost kept it for myself. The long sleeves with the thumbholes are so so good and I love the shimmer all over the fabric. It’s lined with a bodysuit to prevent the dress from riding up, which is typically an issue for both of us since we have bigger butts. (And although the sleeves are sheer, the body of the dress is not.)
Brown, Sparkly Dress Fit Notes: Amanda and I would both wear this dress in size small…I’m typically a 4/6 and she’s a 2/4. While I could go with the medium, it had a little too much extra fabric for me, while the xs was a little too tight at the bottom for Amanda.

I also have to mention these ridiculously fun shoes! They’re SO sparkly, and I love the exaggerated pointy toe (which, unlike closed-toe shoes, doesn’t actually pinch the toes). I wore them for hours the first time out of the box and had zero comfort issues (3.5″ is about as high as I can go and these were perfect).

I absolutely love Amanda’s sandals, but I’m not sure if I can do a 4-inch heel. She’s used to wearing high heels, though, and said these were comfy to walk in…I might have to borrow them from her because that cedar color is unlike anything I have and super versatile.
Cheers to sparkle season!
XOXO,
Scotti
